Atividade de leitura e escrita (escrita de resenha do texto teórico) - AULA 04

- Class for reading and writing activity. Text: Teaching Reading In The Foreign Language
Classroom - Ensinar Leitura Na Sala De Aula De Língua Estrangeira, Carla Callegaro
Corrêa Kader.

Teaching Reading in Foreign Language classrooms often seems easy, but it is a

complex process because it involves many facets of human development for both teachers and
students. Some techniques were explained to facilitate learning and some skills were named
as Bottom-up and Top-down. In the first, the recognition of linguistic symbols and signs
occurs, in the second involves the general or panoramic sense for the details of the text. These
techniques evolve the student's sense of reading in which he becomes able to discern what is
important and what is not.

The text reveals that the sum of these skills contributes to the better learning of the
student who transforms reading into an interactive form and this added to the motivation
factor that created the desire to have such knowledge. In this way, extensive reading together
with reading for pleasure increases the proficiency of foreign language students because you
should avoid doing a thorough word-by-word search in foreign texts with the consequence of
paralyzing the flow of learning as mentioned in the text. It also lists the micro skills that can
be acquired to expand the students' reading ability by making them understand the
information in the foreground and between the lines. For example: identifying the purpose of
reading, silent reading techniques, skimming, scanning, guessing a word when the meaning is
not known and thus inferring what the author means, among others. And complement with
writing exercises for fixation and to stimulate thinking and the creation of new ideas.

The text also provides special attention to the reader itself, as providing tools and prior
information for them as a form of encouragement before reading, avoiding demotivation.
Illustrations are effective strategies for students who do not have a deep understanding of the
language because, according to previous images, they can search their intellect for the known
words referring to that specific topic. But it does not leave out the importance of the teacher
being attentive and teaching hard and noticing the shortcomings and supplying them in the
best possible way, because we know that his role in training in Foreign Languages is of
paramount importance.

In resume, the text concisely approaches the processes of learning to read Foreign
Languages in the classroom, but it is evident that the benefits will go beyond the scholar
ambit. Swabbing on the nuances of theoretical learning, and listing the skills necessary for the
development of each student, it does not fail to mention the essential role of the teacher. It
objectively reports the schemes, strategies and skills that can be improved in our reading and
how we should learn more easily, demystifying the incredible process of obtain knowledge
through reading.
