BABY STEPS:

“I’m just starting, what should I learn first?”

═══⋆HANGUL ⋆═══
Yes! Whether you want it or not that’s the first thing you should learn. You
can skip it, BUT it will make things harder. Imagine learning English through
Russian romanization, the sounds aren’t the same and you will be learning
the wrong pronunciation which will be tough to correct and re-learn.

*ೃ ༄ Here, a site with images to learn it (to be honest, if you sit down and

study hard you can nail it in less than an hour. I did it, it is possible) ⤵

https://www.joop.in/learn-to-read-and-pronounce-korean-hangul-in-2-days/

*ೃ ༄ If you need a more interactive method⤵

*ೃ ༄ If you’re more into animated stuff, here a hangul song for kids ⤵

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JR9-UzlaMc

*ೃ ༄ And of course, we cannot leave out the correct pronunciation of it all

so… When it comes to pronunciation (at least at the beginning) it is wiser to

learn it from natives ⤵

═══⋆What should I learn next? ⋆═══

Pretty easy actually. Just like with everything else you should learn the most
basic things, and those things would be:
·Basic words and phrases = Hello, goodbye, thank you, please, excuse me,
where is…? My name is, I’m __ years old, etc.

·Pronouns =I, you, we…

·Verb to be and its conjugations = I am, you are, we are…

·Sentence structure = Affirmative, Negative, Interrogative, word order…

·Verb conjugations

·Tenses = Past, present, future, etc.

·Particles (Korean has particles and you will have to learn them)

·POLITENESS LEVELS (or else you might offend someone)

═══⋆ Resources ⋆═══

Here are some resources to start, but REMEMBER! don’t get stuck in one
resource simply because someone told you to use that in order to learn.

.·:*¨¨* ≈Commonly Asked Questions≈ *¨¨*:·.

*ೃ ༄ Google Translate is bad! Do you know any good translator? ⤵

·Naver Dictionary

·Papago (it belongs to Naver)

*ೃ ༄ Where can I find more Korean content? ⤵

·Naver search engine (which is basically the Korean Google)

https://www.naver.com/

*ೃ ༄ I don’t understand the lesson I’m watching/reading, what do I do? ⤵

Quite easy though, watch/read it again, if still doesn’t make sense go to a

different resource until you find one that you do understand. Remember not to
get stuck on just one site/channel/app. If you still don’t get it just google your
doubt, trust me! You will find thousands of sites with your questions already
answered.

*ೃ ༄ Can I learn Korean through K-Pop songs? ⤵

Well, you could, but is not really a good idea since you will end up speaking in a
too poetic way (people don’t speak like those songs) Imagine learning English
through Shakespeare and speaking like that… weird.

*ೃ ༄ I’m lacking on motivation, what should I do? ⤵

STOP RELYING ON MOTIVATION IN ORDER TO STUDY! Sorry for the yelling but
motivation is temporal, it is ALWAYS temporal, one day you’ll have it and the
next it will be gone. That way love, it will take you an eternity to actually learn
something.

·Solution: Create a habit. Yes, just that. Start studying 10 minutes STRAIGHT no
distractions, and then rest 5 minutes, go again and rest. The next day start again
but add 5 more minutes (15 minutes) and rest 5 minutes. Add 5 minutes (or 3)
every day. What will happen is that it won’t feel like a burden.

*ೃ ༄ How can I know more vocabulary? ⤵

Read. Reading is the key for new words, as well as for remembering them! Try
webtoons. You can also search for words this way:

“1000 most common Korean words”

“100 most common Korean verbs”

“Love Korean words”

“House Korean words”

And so on.

*ೃ ༄ Where or how can I make/find Korean friends? ⤵

·KakaoTalk (messenger app which allow users to make open group chats)

·HelloTalk (exchange app)

·HiNative (Not a chatting app but still an option. Plus, you can ask grammar or
vocab questions here)

*ೃ ༄ How do I type in Korean? ⤵

·Phone: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jf-jtoEfXc0 (I recommend

standard/qwerty keyboard)

·PC: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQS6nUqPANY
If any of those are different for your specific software just search through that
specification. For example, let’s say you have Windows 7 simply search how to
add it on that version of Window, the same with Android, or phone model.

*ೃ ༄ What is batchim and should I learn it? ⤵

“Batchim is the final consonant or, is that consonant that is placed at the bottom
of a word” Once you have learnt hangul make sure to learn about batchim, it
will help you to pronounce better.

*ೃ ༄ What is Hanja and should I learn it? ⤵

“Hanja is a traditional writing system which consists of Chinese characters.”

Several Hanja characters could give you a hint of what kind of word you’re
seeing and it might help you to “guess” new ones. Good to know, but most
agree is not a real MUST.

https://www.howtostudykorean.com/hanja-unit-1-lessons-1-20/

*ೃ ༄ Which number system is more important? ⤵

Crash Course: https://www.clozemaster.com/blog/korean-numbers/

*ೃ ༄ I have problems with object/subject/topic particles! ⤵

As we all have had love. Do not stress, this one really opened my brain!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvp6Rt43U0M&t=3s

*ೃ ༄ What if I want to learn hangul later? ⤵

In simple words… your life will be harder. As you advance in the learning path
you will hardly see words with their romanization equivalent. Don’t be lazy, just
learn it.

*ೃ ༄ Should I memorize every new word I see? ⤵

No, you don’t. Just if the words seem relevant to you. Ask yourself this question
“Will I use this word often?” If yes, then memorize it, if not let it go.

*ೃ ༄ How do I remember words? ⤵

Just use them! If you don’t use them your brain will throw them away instantly
because they’re not useful (or your brain assumes that at least). Repetition is
key! You came across a new word? Make sentences with it, use it every day.

*ೃ ༄ I want to practice talking, but I’m a beginner and I’m afraid ⤵

Just go and practice, making a mistake is not failing is normal. Failing is not
trying at all. Just try even if you have to mix Korean with English.

*ೃ ༄ How to improve my handwriting? ⤵

Just write more. Did not you improve your handwriting in your own language by
writing more?

*ೃ ༄ Is it ok to use a translator when I talk? ⤵

It is absolutely fine to do so! Each person has its own way of learning, and if that
works for you then go ahead!
