INTRODUCTION
Esplanade is a long, open area, usually next to a river or
large body of water, where people may walk, ride
bicycles, or interact with each other. Esplanade plays a
vital role in Roxas City, Capiz, for it is considered as a
protection for riverbanks, which helps to conserve
environmental values and provide opportunities for
public access and recreational use. The city center of
Roxas City is a busy place, and esplanade has been a
breathing space for the community, however there are
developing parts of the Roxas City like Pueblo de Panay
that lacks open spaces for the public good. For this
reason, the riverbank of Pueblo de Panay will be
developed into an esplanade that promotes safety,
comfort, good health, sustainability, aesthetic, and
connection between people.

SITE PROBLEMS

PP 423 – PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE 3

SITE PROBLEMS
Vehicles have been increasing on the roads of Pueblo de
Panay, however there is lacking in traffic signs and traffic
lights on the site that may cause risk to vehicles and
pedestrians. The site’s unpaved pedestrian walkway has
garbage, unwanted vegetation, and humid ambiance that
creates pedestrian inconvenience and discomfort. There are
undesirable tall grasses and trees that buffers the good view
of the river. Moreover, the site has no riverbank protection or
riprap that helps stabilize the area and prevents future soil
erosion.

DESIGN OBJECTIVES

PP 423 – PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE 3

DESIGN OBJECTIVES
• To provide accessible pedestrian-friendly and
vehicle-friendly spaces that will promote comfort
and safety to all users.

• To create an efficiently designed esplanade that will

maximize productivity and well-being of the
