Section 1 – Product Description

1-1. System Description
The PACS Link 9415 Computed Radiography Interface is a conversion device that connects a Computed
Radiography (CR) Device to a local Laser Imager or to remote destination devices on an Ethernet network.
Figure 1-1 shows a basic system diagram. The basic PACS Link 9415 can be expanded to add a second
CR device input or a second local laser imager output (but not both).
The PACS Link 9415 is intended to drive Kodak laser imagers that use the 952 protocol.

Figure 1-1. PACS Link 9415 – Basic System

The PACS Link 9415 performs two main functions:

 Protocol Conversion
The PACS Link 9415 converts images captured by a CR device to an electronic format that can be
printed by certain Kodak laser imagers or routed to DICOM storage locations such as archive stations
or PACS stations.
 Input–to–Output Routing
The output of each CR device can be directed to any of the local imagers or DICOM destinations.
Primary, backup, or alternate printers can be designated. If there are two CR inputs, a separate routing
can be set up for each input device. Routings are configured by service technicians as part of the PACS
Link 9415 installation procedure and cannot be changed by users.
Network destination devices must comply with the DICOM V3 standard for digital medical imaging
communications. The PACS Link 9415 supports both DICOM print class and DICOM store class output.

and/or network connection is inoperative. No longer available.

1-3. Configuration Options

The PACS Link 9415 can be expanded to add a second CR input or a second local laser imager output, but
not both. An optional external disk drive was added on some early systems to increase short–term image
storage capacity.

1-3-1. Second CR Input

A second DASM–FDLR, mounted in a separate enclosure, is required to accommodate input from a
second CR device. The optional DASM–FDLR connects to the SPARC computer SCSI port. Figure 1-3, on
page 1-4, shows a PACS Link 9415 system with this option. Note: The customer must purchase the
second DASM–FDLR and DMS cable from Fuji or an authorized Fuji representative.

1-3-2. Second Laser Imager Output

A second DASM–LCAM, connected to the SPARC computer SCSI port, is required to drive a second local
laser imager. Figure 1-4, on page 1-5, shows a PACS Link 9415 system with a second DASM–LCAM
connected.

1-3-3. External Hard Disk

An optional external 4–Gigabyte hard disk, connected to the SPARC computer SCSI port, increases image
storage capacity by about 400 images. The SPARC computer internal hard drive is limited to about 100
images. The optional disk was included in some early PACS Link 9415 systems but is no longer available.

Figure 2-1. PACS Link 9415 Components

2-1-1. DASM–FDLR
The DASM–FDLR is the hardware interface between the CR imaging device and the Sun SPARCstation
computer. It connects to the computer as a SCSI peripheral device. Each time the CR device sends an
image, the DASM–FDLR converts the image and associated control files from CR protocol into a format
that can be read into the computer SCSI port.
Physically the DASM–FDLR consists of two boards, mounted inside the SPARCstation computer
enclosure.
An optional second DASM–FDLR, mounted in a separate enclosure, can be connected to the computer as
a SCSI peripheral device.
Kodak PACS Link 9415 Computed Radiography Interface Service Manual
Section 2 – Theory of Operations
1999 Rev. A 2-2

The internal DASM–FDLR is always assigned the SCSI address 0 (zero). If a second DASM–FDLR is
present, it is assigned a SCSI address of 4 or 5.

2-1-2. DASM–LCAM
The DASM–LCAM is the hardware interface between the computer and the local laser imager. It acts as a
digital host–control source for the laser imager. Images are converted to 952 protocol by the PACS Link
9415 and then sent to the laser imager through the DASM–LCAM. Like the DASM–FDLR, the
DASM–LCAM connects to the computer as a SCSI peripheral device.
Physically the DASM–LCAM consists of two boards, mounted in a stand–alone enclosure that connects to
the computer via a SCSI cable.
An optional second DASM–LCAM, mounted in a separate enclosure, can be added. However, the PACS
Link 9415 can support no more than three DASMs. Thus the system can contain two DASM–LCAMs and
one DASM–FDLR or one DASM–LCAM and two DASM–FDLRs.
The first DASM–LCAM is always assigned the SCSI address 1 (one). If a second DASM–LCAM is present,
it is assigned a SCSI address of 4 or 5.

2-1-3. Sun SPARCstation Computer

The SPARC station computer, with the Solaris operating system, runs the PACS Link 9415 application
software that converts images from CR protocol to laser imager (952) protocol and or DICOM V3 Print
Class or Store Class protocol.
A portion of the internal hard disk is used to temporarily store processed images if a laser imager or
network destination is out of service. About 150 images can be stored on the internal disk.
The computer contains an Ethernet interface that provides the connection to a 10BaseT Ethernet network.
Solaris, is a Sun version of the UNIX operating system.

2-1-4. Optional External Hard Disk

A 4–Gigabyte external, SCSI hard disk was included in some early PACS Link 9415 systems but is no
longer available. The purpose of the external disk is to increase image queueing and spooling capacity. In
the event of a laser imager or network failure images are stored temporarily on the internal and external
hard disks. The external disk increases total short–term storage capacity to approximately 550 images.

2-2. PACS Link 9415 Application Software

The PACS Link 9415 is shipped from the factory with the operating system (Solaris) and PACS Link 9415
application software installed. The main components within the application software are ESMs
(Encapsulated Software Modules). There are three types of ESMs:
 Getters
 Filters
 Putters
Kodak PACS Link 9415 Computed Radiography Interface Service Manual
Section 2 – Theory of Operations
1999 Rev. A 2-3

2-2-1. Getters
Getters are software modules that work together with the DASM–FDLR to read in images sent from the CR
device. In most PACS Link 9415 systems only one getter will be used. A second getter is required if the
system includes an optional second DASM–FDLR.
In addition to reading in an image, the getter separates the image header from the image data and places
the two parts into separate files.

2-2-2. Filters
Filters are software modules that convert the CR image data (based on information in the header) to the
952 protocol required by laser imager(s) connected to the PACS Link 9415. In most PACS Link 9415
systems only one filter will be required.

2-2-3. Putters
Putters are software modules that transmit converted images to an output device. One or both of the
following putters may be used in PACS Link 9415 systems:
LCAM putter – sends images to the DASM–LCAM which forwards the images on to the local laser
imager.
DICOM putter – deposits converted images into the net directories (DICOM destination directories).
The DICOM software transmits any images dropped into the net directories to the appropriate DICOM
destinations over the Ethernet network.

2-2-4. Selecting Getters, Filters and Putters

The PACS Link 9415 application software includes a large selection of ESMs (getter, filter and putter
modules) that accommodate many different image modalities (image source devices) and output devices.
However PACS Link 9415 systems will be limited to use with CR input devices, certain Kodak laser
imagers and DICOM–compliant output devices. Thus only a few of the available ESMs will be used in
PACS Link 9415 systems. When a PACS Link 9415 system is installed, the installer runs a configuration
utility to choose the ESMs that match the input and output devices connected to the PACS Link 9415.
Refer to Section 3 in this manual for detailed information on using the configuration utility.

2-2-5. Other software Components

In addition to the ESMs, the PACS Link 9415 application software includes a main monitor screen, event
logging, a configuration utility and several troubleshooting utilities.

2-3. Sequence of Events

The PACS Link 9415 performs the following steps each time the CR device sends an image.
1. The getter continuously polls the CR device, through the DASM–FDLR, to see if an image is available.
2. When an image is available, the getter pulls in the image from the CR device via the DASM–FDLR and
places the header and image data into separate files. The getter then passes the image file on to the
filter.
Kodak PACS Link 9415 Computed Radiography Interface Service Manual
Section 2 – Theory of Operations
1999 Rev. A 2-4

3. The filter processes the image (converts the image format) based on information in the header file.
The filter software checks the converted image against the header and then, if the image matches
the header specifications, passes the image to the putter(s).
If the processed image does not meet the header specifications, the filter will retry once and then
mark the image as defective if it cannot be properly processed. The filter then moves on to the next
image in the queue. Usually this situation occurs when the image header contains an invalid
parameter that the PACS Link 9415 system cannot satisfy.
4. The putter(s) send the converted image file to the local laser imager and/or to one of the net directories.
(There is a net directory associated with each DICOM destination.)
5. If the image has been dropped in a net directory (a DICOM image), the DICOM software transmits the
image to the proper DICOM destination.
6. Once the image has been sent to the laser imager and/or DICOM destination, the PACS Link 9415
deletes the image and header files.
If a local laser imager or DICOM destination is not ready for some reason, out of film for example, the
PACS Link 9415 will continue to accept and process images from the CR device. The converted images
will be queued in a temporary storage area on the hard disk until the laser imager becomes available. The
standard hard disk can store approximately 100 images.

2-4. Header Information

The header that the CR device appends to each image includes the following information:
Processing parameters – These parameters control how the filter modules process the raw image data
into a printable form.
Patient demographic information – patient name, date of birth, image cassette processing date and
other information relating to a specific patient. The PACS Link 9415 passes this information to the
destination device for printing with the image.
Site information – hospital name and type of CR imaging device. This information is passed through
the PACS Link 9415 for printing along with the image.

2-5. PACS Link 9415 File Structure

Figure 2-2 is a diagram of the PACS Link 9415 file structure. Service technicians should be aware of the
following directories and key files.
/disk2/spooler
This is the home directory for the PACS Link 9415 application.
config.dat (/disk2/spooler/conf/config.dat)
This file contains all of site–specific configuration information entered when the PACS Link 9415 was
installed except for DICOM and network–related configuration information. This information includes:
 Site name
 Getters, putters, and filters
 Input and output device names
 Routing information

Net Directories
These directories are the network pick up containers for DICOM destinations. Each directory serves a
single DICOM destination. When an image has been converted by a filter and is ready to be sent to a
DICOM destination, a putter drops it in the appropriate net directory. The DICOM software then picks the
image file out of the net directory and forwards it to the proper DICOM destination. There can be up to
eight net directories labeled net1 through net8.

5. If the PACS Link 9415 will be connected to a network, obtain the following network parameters:
IP Address, Net Mask and Host Name to be assigned to the PACS Link 9415. These should be
available from the site network administrator.
AE Title for the PACS Link 9415. This should be available from the person at the site who is
responsible for DICOM station administration.
Record these items on a Network Parameter Worksheet, located in Appendix D near the back of this
manual.

Note
The system administrator may ask you for the Ethernet address of the PACS Link 9415 (also called
MAC address or Media Access Address). This address is hard coded into the network interface in the
SPARC computer. You can determine the Ethernet address by observing the boot–up process. The
Ethernet address is displayed during the first phase of boot–up when the hardware configuration is
displayed.

6. If the PACS Link 9415 is connected to a network, obtain network parameters for any DICOM
destination devices on the network that will receive images from the PACS Link 9415. You will need the
IP Address, AE Title, Port Number and Host Name for each DICOM station. Again this information
should be available from the site network administrator and DICOM administrator.
Record these items on a Network Parameter Worksheet, located in Appendix D near the back of this
manual.
7. 959/969 Laser Imager Requirements:
A 12–bit input module must be installed in the imager for connection to the PACS Link 9415.
DEIB and UKEIB interface boxes are required.
8. DryView 8700/8500 Plus Laser Imager Requirements:
To be compatible with the PACS Link 9415, 12–bit Memory Daughter Boards must be installed in
the laser imager.
DEIB and UKEIB interface boxes are required.
9. A 25–pin null modem and 25–pin to 9–pin Host Adapter Cable are required for each laser imager
connected to a DASM–LCAM.
10. CR cable: The cable to connect a CR device to the PACS Link 9415 must be obtained from the
manufacturer of the CR device.
11. Plan input–to–output routing. For each CR input determine the output destination or destinations.
Identify both primary and back up or alternate destination(s). You will be asked for these routings during
the configuration procedure.

3-3-3. Laser Imager Configuration

Set laser imager configuration parameters to be compatible with the PACS Link 9415.
For 959, 969, 8800 and DryView 8700/8500 Plus Laser Imagers:
Use your MPC program to manually load configuration parameters.
Refer to Appendix A for the parameter values.
For the 8300 Laser Imager:
Set configuration parameter values from the 8300 local panel.
Refer to Appendix A for the parameter values.

3-4. Laser Imager Density and Contrast Calibration

Follow the the procedure below to initially set contrast and density for laser imagers connected to the
PACS Link 9415.
1. Select Density and Contrast on the laser imager.
Table 3-1. Initial Density and Contrast Values

Laser Imager Density Contrast Enter On

Model Number
959 11 10 Control Panel
969 2.7 10 Local Keypad
8700 2.7 11 Local Panel
8300 11 9 Local Panel

2. Print a Density Test (SMPTE) film on the laser imager.

3. On the SMPTE pattern, measure and record the maximum (0%) and minimum (100%) densities.
4. The density measured on the 0% block of the SMPTE pattern should have a value of 2.7 ±0.05. If the
actual value is outside this range, increase (or decrease) both the Density and Contrast selections by
one step and print another Density Test film. Repeat this process until the density for the 0% block on
the SMPTE pattern is measured to be 2.70 ±0.05.
5. The laser imager will now be calibrated to provide the same response as a CR laser imager and the
image quality portion of the PACS Link 9415 installation procedure can be completed using films from
the laser imager.

3-5. Select A Different Maximum Optical Density

The user may prefer to print CR films at a different maximum optical density than the nominal value of
approximately 2.7. The CR Transfer Function Tables (TFTs) in the laser imagers are designed such that a
particular contrast setting is associated with each density setting. Therefore, contrast and density values
must be changed together when a new maximum film density is selected. The table below shows the
relationship between these two settings.
Table 3-2. Maximum Optical Density Settings

8300 Contrast and Density

Unlike the 959, 969 and 8700/8500, the 8300 does not have a linked relationship between density and
contrast. Table 3-1 on page 3-7 gives a recommended starting point for density and contrast. These two
parameters can be changed independently in accordance with customer preference.

3-6. CR Device Preparation

The CR device must be configured with a DMS port and the port must be enabled using a configuration
editor. A qualified CR technician must install and enable the DMS port.
There are two protocol choices for the DMS port, HIC or ODF. For the PACS Link 9415, the proper choice
is ODF.
If the CR device is configured with a CR workstation, the PACS Link 9415 will be connected to the DMS
output port of the workstation. To be compatible with the PACS Link 9415, the workstation must have the
two–channel expansion interface option installed and configured by a qualified CR technician.

3-13. SCSI Addresses

In the configuration procedures that follow you will need to know the SCSI Addresses of the SCSI
peripheral devices connected to the SPARCstation computer SCSI bus. The following table lists SCSI
addresses for all of the SCSI devices that can be present in PACS Link 9415 systems.
Table 3-3. PACS Link 9415 SCSI Address Assignments

3-14. DASM Initialization

The following procedure reconfigures the system to synchronize the operating system with the DASM SCSI
addresses.
1. In the Main Screen click on Stop Resource Gateway, then click OK.
2. When the Monitor (upper) window disappears, click on Shutdown System.
3. Select Shutdown and click OK.
4. Wait for the system to shutdown.
Wait until the ok prompt appears at the bottom of the screen. This takes about 1–1/2 minutes.
(There will be little activity on the screen during shutdown.)
5. At the ok prompt type probe–scsi.
The system should return a display similar to this:

Target 0
Unit 0 Disk ANALOGIC DASM–DLR 1.0

Target 1

The above display shows the SCSI peripheral devices in the system and their SCSI addresses. In this
example there are three SCSI devices, a DASM–DLR, a DASM–LCAM and the computer’s internal
hard disk. Note that in the above display all SCSI devices are labeled “Disk” regardless of what they
actually are.
In this display Target 0 is SCSI address 0, Target 1 is SCSI address 1 and Target 3 is SCSI address 3.
(Ignore the designation “Unit 0”)
6. Make a note of the SCSI addresses for each of the DASMs. There can be up to three DASMs.
7. At the ok prompt, type the command boot –r
This command reboots the system and causes the system to register the SCSI addresses of the
DASMs.
Rebooting takes about three minutes. The PACS Link 9415 Main Screen will reappear.

3-15-4. Image Path Maintenance

In the following steps you will use the Input Path Maintenance feature to setup routes from each CR input
device to one or more outputs. In effect this procedure links getter modules to putter modules. As part of
this process the configuration software inserts the proper filter between each getter and putter combination.
You do not have to select filters manually.
Image Path Maintenance allows you “connect” both primary and secondary printers to a CR input. A
primary printer receives all images from the connected CR input. If the primary printer becomes
unavailable (malfunctions or runs out of film for example), the PACS Link 9415 automatically routes images
to the secondary printer. In most systems only a primary printer is set up.
More than one primary printer can be connected to a CR input. For example, both a local laser imager and
a DICOM printer can be connected. All images from the CR input will be printed on both primary printers.
Procedure:
1. From the Configuration Main Menu, select item 6 (Image Path Maintenance).
You should see the following display:

3. Enter the number of the output device you want “connected” to the CR input device. Also enter the
number of copies to print (Default = 1).
This will be the primary output device for the selected input. Images from the CR device will always
go to this output if it is in service.
Later on you can connect a second or third primary output device if you wish. Images from the CR
device will be routed to all of the output devices you designate as primary.
4. Next you will be asked to pick a “next most preferred output” (a secondary output device). If there is no
requirement for a secondary output, select None. If a secondary output will be used in this system, go
to paragraph 3-15-5 on page 3-38 now.
5. The next display (below) gives you a chance to review and either accept or reject the output choices
you made.

repeat steps 3 through 6. When you set up two primary outputs, all images from the CR input device
will be routed to both outputs.
8. If your PACS Link 9415 system has two CR input devices, go back to step 2 and select path #2.
Repeat steps 3 through 7.
9. Press Return (more than once) to go back to the Configuration Main Menu.
10. From the Configuration Main Menu, type E to exit the configuration program.

Note
In order to save the configuration changes you just entered, you must exit the configuration program
from the Configuration Main Menu. If you exit from any other point, the new configuration will not be
saved.

This completes system configuration using the rs_conf program. Go on to procedure 3-15-6 on page
3-39.

3-15-5. Setting up Secondary Outputs

There are two types of secondary outputs, backup printers and alternate printers. Images will be routed to
a backup printer only if the primary printer is out of service. Images will be routed to an alternate printer if
the primary printer is unavailable for any reason, including operator–correctable conditions such as
cartridge empty, door open, etc.
You select a backup or alternate printer within Image Path Maintenance after you have selected a primary
printer. To do this, substitute step 4 below for step 4 on page 3-37.
4. Next you will be asked to pick a “next most preferred output”. This will be a secondary output. Go
ahead and pick a secondary output from the list of available output devices.
The system will then ask the following question:
Must all of the more preferred outputs be out of service in order to use
this output? Y=Yes N=No
If you select y, the secondary printer will be classified as a backup printer.
If you select n, the secondary printer will be classified as an alternate printer.
Now go back to step 5 on page 3-37 to complete the Image Path Maintenance procedure.

Interpretation of the Monitor Display

The portion of the Monitor display below shows a PACS Link 9415 System Configuration.

ID SCSI Name Type Protocol Route

–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

0 0–1 DryView1 P 952 –

1 0–4 DryView2 P 952 –
2 PACS_Y P 952 –
3 0–0 CR_Input_1 G DLR [0][2]
4 0–5 CR_Input_2 G DLR [1;0]
5 DLR2952 F DLR/952 –

G = Getter F = Filter P = Putter

; indicates a back up printer, ! indicates an alternate printer, [ ][ ] indicates 2 primary printers
There are two getters, that serve two input devices named CR_Input_1 and CR_Input_2. These
names were assigned in the configuration procedure. DLR is the protocol used for CR input devices.
There are three putters that serve three output devices named DryView1, DryView2 and PACS_Y. All
three of these output devices use the 952 protocol.
DryView is a local laser imager because it is associated with a SCSI address. (A SCSI address is
always associated with a DASM–LCAM interface which drives a local laser imager.)
Since there is no SCSI address associated with PACS_Y, it must be a DICOM destination.
There is one filter, named DLR2952, that converts from DLR to 952 protocol. The name DLR2952 was
automatically assigned by the configuration software.
The Route column shows the connections that have been set up between getters and putters using the
ID numbers in the left hand column:
ID 0 = DryView1
ID 1 = DryView2
ID 2 = PACS_Y
– For CR_Input_1, the route [0][2] indicates that DryView1 and PACS_Y are both primary outputs. All
images from CR_Input_1 will be routed to both outputs.
– For CR_Input_2, the route [1;0] indicates that DryView2 is the primary output and DryView1 is the
backup output. A semicolon is used to indicate a backup output. If DryView1 were an alternate
output, rather than a backup output, an exclamation point (!) would appear in place of the
semicolon.
Verify that the system configuration on the monitor screen is correct. If it is not, restart the configuration
program (paragraph 3-15, page 3-27) and make the necessary corrections. If the configuration is correct,
go on to the next procedure:
If the PACS Link 9415 will output to DICOM destinations, go on to procedure 3-16 on page 3-41.
If there are no DICOM destinations, go to procedure 3-17 on page 3-54.

3. Delete bad image files: Enter: rm

4. Restart the PACS Link 9415 software.
(See paragraph 4-3-3 , page 4-5.)
5. Notify the user to re–transmit the image you deleted.

4-3-6. Net Directory Cleanup From Remote PC

In a PACS Link 9415 system with DICOM destinations, the DICOM pick up directories (net directories) can
fill up if the network goes down or if a DICOM destination malfunctions and the CR device continues to
send images. When the net directories are full, the PACS Link 9415 system locks up (will not accept or
process images). All of the images that accumulate in the net directories will be error marked (a lower case
e is added to the control file for each image).
Use the following procedure to unlock the system and process the images stacked up in the net files:
1. Correct the network problem or DICOM destination malfunction.
2. Stop the PACS Link 9415.
(See paragraph 4-3-2, page 4-5.)
3. At the command prompt enter: cd /disk2/spooler/netx
netx is the net directory where images are backlogged (net1, net2, . . . .or net8).
If the system has only one DICOM destination, the net directory will be net1
4. Enter: ls e
This command lists all of the control files in the netx directory marked with the error code (e).
Example:

eFFP_C.2d3
eFFP_C.35a
eFFP_C.35e

5. Rename the error–marked files to their original name. To do this enter the following command for each
error–marked file listed:
mv eFFP_C.2d3 FFP_C.2d3
The PACS Link 9415 system will immediately attempt to re–transmit the renamed file. If the network
problem has been corrected, the renamed file should move normally to its DICOM destination.
Kodak PACS Link 9415 Computed Radiography Interface Service Manual
Section 4 – Troubleshooting
1999 Rev. A 4-8

6. To verify that a renamed file is being processed properly, enter the following command to display the
end of the system log:
tail –f ffp2dicom.log

If the renamed file is being processed properly, you will see entries indicating:
– File is processing
– Processing complete
If the network or DICOM device problem has not been corrected, you will see log entries indicating
errors in processing the renamed file.
If a renamed file does not process normally, the network or DICOM destination problem has
probably not been corrected. If the user wishes to temporarily continue operating the PACS Link
9415 with output to a local laser imager only, refer to paragraph 4-3-8.
To quit the tail display, press Ctrl C.
7. If the PACS Link 9415 system has more than one DICOM destination and a network problem (rather
than malfunction of a single DICOM destination) is causing the net directories to fill up, repeat steps 3
through 6 for each net directory in use. There will be a net directory associated with each DICOM
destination.
8. Reboot:
a. Enter SU at the command prompt.
b. At the # prompt, enter rs_stop
c. Enter Reboot
The boot–up process takes about 3 minutes.
The modem connection will be lost during boot–up. Wait about 4 minutes and then reconnect to
the PACS Link 9415.

4-3-7. Determining the Cause of System Lock–up

If a user calls and reports that his PACS Link 9415 system has stopped processing images, the most likely
cause is a disk–full condition caused by failure of the network or one of the output devices being out of
service. You can confirm the disk–full condition with the following procedure.
1. Stop the PACS Link 9415 Software.
(See paragraph 4-3-2 , page 4-5.)
2. At the command prompt enter: df –k
The system will display the percentage of capacity used for each disk partition.
If any of the partitions is at 100 % utilization, the system is inoperable (locked up). It is likely that one of
the output devices is out of service or that there is a network problem.
Kodak PACS Link 9415 Computed Radiography Interface Service Manual
Section 4 – Troubleshooting
1999 Rev. A 4-9

4-3-8. Clearing Lock–up in PACS Link 9415 Systems With Both Local Laser Imager and
DICOM Destinations
In PACS Link 9415 systems with both local laser imager and DICOM destinations, a network failure or
DICOM destination malfunction can cause the net directories to fill up and lock up the entire system. In
situations where it is not immediately possible to correct the network failure or DICOM destination problem,
it may be useful to unlock the system by clearing out the net directories. The system can then continue to
print on the local laser imager.
Procedure:
1. Determine if the problem is a network failure or single malfunctioning DICOM destination.
If a single DICOM destination is out of service, you will need to clear only the net directory
associated with this destination.
If the entire network is out of service, you will have to clear the net directories for all of the DICOM
destinations.
2. Stop the PACS Link 9415 software.
(See paragraph 4-3-2 on page 4-5.)
3. At the command prompt enter: cd /disk2/spooler/netx
netx is the net directory where images are backlogged (net1, net2, . . . .or net8).
If the system has only one DICOM destination, the net directory will be net1
4. Enter: rm e
(Removes all error–marked control files in the netx directory.)
5. Enter: rm F
(Removes image files associated with the error–marked control files.)
6. Restart the PACS Link 9415. (See paragraph 4-3-3 on page 4-5.)
7. The PACS Link 9415 should now be ready to accept new images from the CR device.
The above procedure is a temporary measure. If the network or DICOM destination problem is not
corrected, the net directories will eventually fill up again and lock the system.

4-4. System Logs

Two types of system logs record significant events during PACS Link 9415 operation:
1. rs.log files
rs.log (no extension) – This is the current general activity log for the PACS Link 9415. It contains
status and error messages generated by the PACS Link 9415 software. A new rs.log file is created
each time the system is powered up or each time the application software is started from the
Monitor screen. When a new rs.log file is created, an extension (1 to 16) is added to the old file and
it becomes a historical file.
rs.log.1 through rs.log.16 – These are historical files, previous versions of the rs.log file. The
extensions are not assigned in numerical order and thus do not reflect the order in which the files
were created.
2. ffp2dicom.log files – These files contain status and error messages reported by the DICOM software.
There is a separate log with this name within each of the net directories that have been set up. (There
is as net directory for each DICOM destination.)

Appendix C – ESM Configuration Keywords
1999 Rev. A C-15

LOAD_FNAME
 Type: STRING
 Example: LOAD_FNAME = /disk2/delete_tasks, disk2/lcam3m, disk2/vdb
Comment: the software load module specification used to configure the DASM-LCAM. The 952
putter supports both the digital LCAM and the analog (video) VDB, so after the load module that
deletes the current application tasks, two load modules are specified (but only one is used).
MODULE_ID
 Type: NUMERIC
 Example: MODULE_ID = 0
Comment: the relative entry, starting with 0, of the module within the config.dat file. It is the
means of relating one module to another. See the description of the ROUTE field. This ID is
embedded in the file names produced by some of the RGS software, and in some configuration
files.
MODULE_NAME
 Type: STRING
 Example: MODULE_NAME = 952DPTR
Comment: user defined string that is suggestive of the module’s function.
SET_BORDER
 Type: BOOLEAN
 Example: SET_BORDER = DISABLED
Comment: some manufacturers have not implemented the set border command. This allows
you to disable the sending of that message from the LCAM.
TIMEOUT
 Type: NUMERIC
 Example: TIMEOUT = 120
Comment: specifies the amount of time the putter will remain out-of-service before retrying.
TYPE
 Type: MULTICHOICE
 Example: TYPE = P
Comment: indicates the nature of the module, G (getter, or acquisition module), P (putter, or
output module), and F (filter, or translator from input to output protocol).

FFP Putter (librs_ffpptr)

Putter module which outputs an image to a specified directory in the FFP format.
COPIES_FNAME
 Type: STRING
 Example: COPIES_FNAME = /disk2/spooler/conf/ffpcopies
Comment: specifies a file which overrides the values of COPIES. This allows the count to be
changed without stopping and restarting the spooler.
DELETE_FLAG
 Type: MULTICHOICE
 Example: DELETE_FLAG = YES
Comment: controls whether the image files are to be deleted after processing, no by the putter,
but by the FFP getter that monitors this directory for new images and control files.
 Choice: [YES, NO]
DIR
 Type: STRING
 Example: DIR = /disk2/spooler/net1
Comment: the directory specification of the output - this directory must exist. By convention,
net1 is used as the initial output directory, net2 as input.
ESM_LIB
 Type: STRING
 Example: ESM_LIB = /usr/lib/librs_ffpptr

Comment: limits the number of jobs that can exist in a directory; 0 = no limit.
MODULE_ID
 Type: NUMERIC
 Example: MODULE_ID = 2
Comment: the relative entry, starting with 0, of the module within the config.dat file. It is the
means of relating one module to another. See the description of the ROUTE field. This ID is
embedded in the file names produced by some of the RGS software, and in some configuration
files.
MODULE_NAME

USE_HARD_LINKS
 Type: BOOLEAN
 Example: USE_HARD_LINKS = FALSE
Comment: if TRUE, specifies a faster way of outputting image files, using hard links. This will
only work if the drop-off directory and the spool directory are on the same file system.
WAIT_ON_QUE_FULL
 Type: BOOLEAN
 Example: WAIT_ON_QUE_FULL = TRUE
Comment: WAIT_ON_QUE_FULL will only have an effect if MAX_FFPPTR_JOBS is greater
than zero. If WAIT_ON_QUE_FUL is FALSE and MAX_FFPPTR_JOBS is exceeded, any new
jobs will be discarded. Job count will increment without error.
 Choice: [TRUE, FALSE]
WRITE_EXTRA_IMAGE_DATA
 Type: BOOLEAN
 Example: WRITE_EXTRA_IMAGE_DATA = FALSE
Comment: exists only for special applications for an OEM that requires 16KB of data added to
the top of a CR image. See DO_FHDR.
