Dear Shito Ryu Members,
On behalf of Shito Ryu Canada Karatedo Kai, we’d like to invite you to take part
in our first Shito Ryu Gasshuku/Shinsa held in Canada. We are also very blessed
as Mabuni Soke will be present at this event and will have a small contingent
from Japan who will be assisting in the instructions. We are also honored to
have at this event several high-level Shihan from the United States and Mexico in
attendance.
We understand that we are still in difficult times in the pandemic, but we will try
our best to make this event memorable for those in attendance.
Shihan who will be at the event:
From Japan

Mabuni Tsukasa Soke Sakai Kazuo Hanshi

Tashiro Takaya Tasshi Kurose Tetsuya Renshi

From United States
John Bartholomay Hanshi, Kevin Hammond Kyoshi, Shawn Ross Renshi, and
Mari-jo Suzuki Renshi
From Mexico
Rosendo Geronimo Kyoshi, Roberto Geronimo Renshi, and Magdelano Lopez
Renshi
From Canada
William Chung Kyoshi, Alice Chung Renshi, and Garson Ho Renshi
Accommodations
For hotels, there is the Holiday Inn Vancouver Airport, Richmond; Accent Inn
Vancouver Airport, Richmond; Sandman Inn Vancouver Airport, Richmond; and
Coast Vancouver Airport, Vancouver; just to name a few. Majority of the hotels
are in Richmond with the exception of one. Try and avoid the hotels in downtown
Vancouver as they are very expensive and the distance is farther. The Richmond
hotels are still closer to the venue: The Arbutus Club, so that’s what we’re
suggesting. The Coast Hotel Vancouver Airport is not bad and close to
amenities.
Shinsa
Grading will be for black belt levels only. It will be held on the Saturday evening
after the workshop. Grading and Menjo fees will be in either US denominations or
in Japanese Yen. Please consult with your Sensei for the costs of the grading and
menjo fees.
About Covid19
We are very fortunate that Covid19 numbers are not too bad in Canada. Currently
facial coverings are optional in Vancouver. Similarly, at the Gasshuku, this will
be the same. There will be a sanitizing station at the Studios and the washrooms
will be close by. We ask that everyone respects the social distance and the level
of comforts from all the participants. For those entering Canada by land and air,
please ensure that you have filed with ARRIVECAN prior to arriving in Canada.

Equipment Required
Please bring with you a white dogi and sparring gloves. For hygienic reasons,
there will be no sharing of gloves. As there may be a bit of running, please bring
a pair of runners if you can’t run on bare feet.
Have Fun!!
We hope that everyone will train hard during this weekend and learn from all the
experts present at this gasshuku. The goal is to learn from one another and to
meet new friends and re-establish relationships with old friends within our karate
family.
Yours in budo,
