About The Workshop

During 2016 and 2017, DOAJ [Directory of Open Access Journals] ran an Ambassador program, funded by the IDRC,
targeting regions of the global south that could benefit from greater awareness of the issues surrounding open
access [OA] and the importance of best practice and high publishing standards. During this program the interactions
that the India Ambassadors had with various members of the Indian academia it was felt that there was a lack of
awareness of DOAJ, the work it does and the service it provides. Issues that surround OA have also raised many
concerns and misconceptions regarding the support OA provides to research. To promote a better understanding
and participation in OA, the DOAJ Ambassadors are conducting a series of workshops in India in collaboration with
local institutions and organizations.
