thereto for Grade 8. Now that you are in grade 9, you will become an ambassador of
FITNESS by promoting the idea of “MOVE TO LEARN AND LEARN TO MOVE”. Move to
learn in the context of physical activity as the means for learning, while Learn to move
embodies the learning of skills, and techniques and the acquisition of understanding that are
requisites to participation in dance.

Why do we care about dance etiquette? Because just like in any other event it is
important to behave accordingly. Moreover, it will not just give you a great experience but will
also widen your social networks. There are aspects of dance etiquette that we have to
consider. The following are the said aspects.

I. WHAT TO WEAR- In social Dances and Dance Mixers, the more formal the dance the

II. PERSONAL GROOMING

Things to remember in participating in any dance activity.

Before the said activity it is but proper for you to take a bath and brush your teeth and
use mouthwash/breath mint for you will be socializing with other people in that event and don
not use strong perfume because some are not comfortable smelling strong perfumes. Do not
use anything that may cause a strong odor. During the activity, we are reminded to always
be conscious about your grooming, freshen up and towel off periodically and it is also
advisable to bring with you extra clothes to change if necessary.

III. ON THE DANCE FLOOR

To make sure that you are not colliding with other pairs always bear in mind to follow
the counterclockwise direction. Be polite and approachable with your partner and accompany
your partner back to her seat.

IV. NO-FAULT DANCING

As much as possible, you should dance at the level of your partner and never blame
your partner for the missed execution of the figures. If unintentionally you committed some
mistake, it ethical to apologize immediately.

V. DEMEANOR

Demeanor is how we behave, and we deal with other people. In the social dancing
activity, there are things that we must consider like being approachable and having an eye to
eye contact with your partner. It is you who should adjust to the situation so you must project
a positive outlook even if it is not your style and if you don’t know the dance be honest and
refuse promptly if you are asked to dance and as a respect to your partner never teach your
partner on the dancefloor for it may insult him/her.

These are the aspects of dance etiquette that we must consider for us to realize that
there is more to dancing than dancing itself. It can develop not only your physical, your
mental, and emotional but also your social skills most especially in a social dancing activity.

SOCIAL DANCES is a non-competitive version of ballroom and Latin dancing. It is
comprised of all the same dances, like Foxtrot, Tango, Swing, or Cha-Cha, but designed to be
used in practical settings like wedding receptions, nightclubs, business functions, or informal
gatherings. Social dancing is less formal that exhibition dancing and is meant to be enjoyed
while socializing. Social Dances are communal dances performed in social gatherings in any
given space.
They are synonymously
referred to as ballroom dances, but
the former is performed in balls or
formal social functions. They are
also called ballroom dances. They
are usually performed in pairs,
male and female, but may also be
performed in groups.The most
important skill for good social
dancing is Leading and
Following. This is the non-verbal
communication from the leader to
the follower indicating the direction,
timing, and style, among other things. If Leading and Following is a message, then good
posture and dance frame are the
antennae broadcasting the signal. Ultimately, social dancing is having the ability to converse
while dancing. Being able to multi-task, like chatting about work or the weather while Waltzing,
takes some practice but allows dancing to develop into natural use much quicker. There are
two major classifications of social dances namely;
