What is the role of a chorister?

Choristers are ministers of the gospel through songs. Choristers are the Levites of
today, meant to perform sacred duties in the house of God (Numbers 3:6-12). Levites
were members of a priestly tribe associated with the priesthood – they sang in the holy
sanctuary and played different musical instruments

So, in no particular order, these are the qualities that I believe make for an ideal
choir member:
 punctuality. It takes a while to build up a safe, creative atmosphere, but only a second to
destroy it. ...
 commitment. ...
 responsibility. ...
 self-awareness. ...
 trust. ...
 attentiveness. ...
 consideration for others. ...
 listening skills.

What are the duties of a chorister?

The four functions are to lead and enliven the congregation's song, to sing music that
the congregation cannot, to serve as a small-group within the church for faith formation,
and to sing beautiful and challenging music to glorify God and to edify the congregation.

10 HABITS FOR GOOD CHOIR MEMBERS

1. Attend every rehearsal.  Every rehearsal is important!

2. Always be on time, or preferably be early. There is not a good excuse for

being late to every rehearsal!

3. Have a pencil ready to mark your music from the director’s

instructions. Spell musical terms as correctly as possible. (Can you
spell Crescendo?)
4. Limit your talking during the choir rehearsal. Directors
know that you will talk a little, but discipline yourself to be
courteous to your choir director. It is frustrating to have
conversations going on while trying to rehearse!

5. Encourage your choir Master or mistress.  Obey gifts etc

6. Let your choir director know when you will be

absent. You are important, and it helps in planning to know
when members will be absent from a rehearsal or service.

7. Work to improve as a musician. Strive for excellence.

8. Attempt to blend your voice.

9. Memorize Scripture about music. Psalm 104:33 is great

verse with which to start!

10. Pray for your pastor and choir director daily. We all need
the blessings of the Lord!
