The tutorial describes the process for painting a miniature figure using non-metallic metal (NMM) techniques to paint bronze and gray armor.

The tutorial demonstrates layering different shades of black, gray and white to create shadows and highlights for the gray armor. It also shows mixing colors like rhinox hide and black to create layers for the bronze NMM effect.

The colors used to paint the bronze elements were: Rhinox Hide, Black, Bestigor Flesh, and Orange Brown.

Paints and brushes I used to paint this model:
I used Citadel and Vallejo acrylics paints, Chaos Black Citadel
basecoat, Windsor & Newton Series 7 brushes size “1” and “0”.

And clean cold tap water 

Admission:
I always prepare models with modelers tools. Most important thing
is good prepared model without mode lines and no free spaces
between parts.
I always use cork from wine to hold minis, and to hitch I use
paperclips and glue.

And of course I always try to paint elements separately, it is more

comfortable.

Paints I used.

1. Black from Vallejo

2. White from Vallejo
3. Orange Brown from Vallejo
4. Administratum Grey from Citadel
5. Rhinox Hide from Citadel
6. Mournfang Brown from Citadel
7. Bestigor Flesh from Citadel
8. Ungor Flesh from Citadel

It is 8 paints I painted Bronze NMM and also Grey Armor NMM style.

Let’s go on!
Pic 3. It is first step after preparing model. I put Chaos Black basecoat from Citadel.

In my opinion it is the best black basecoat. Remember to shake well and put few thin layers on
your model.

And remember: let it dry! 

I always use black basecoat because I paint with layers from the darkest colors to the brightest.
This is my style, and I must say that I can’t paint on white basecoat 
Pic 4. In this step I started to paint my miniature from Armor areas “inside” model.

I just mixed Black and White paints from Vallejo, about 70/30 more Black.

I put here 2-3 thin layers of paint. I try to paint only Armor areas, trying not to go “out the lines”

Tip:

Remember, always let dry layer before you put another.

Pic 5. In this step I added little more white paint, and paint layer leaving little from layer before.
This way we have sketch of shadows and highlights.

This model is a part of base from Roboute Guilliman from Games Workshop. So it won’t be the
highest painting level, HOWEVER even with parts like this one, try to paint slowly and carefully.

It is the secret of good painting 

Pic 6. In this step I decided to leave grey armor for now, and I started to paint Bronze NMM
elements.

I did it because I want to see progress of whole model, to balance the colors and see how strong
contrasts I must do.

Here I painted layer with Rhinox Hide and Black mix of paints, 50/50.

It is first step of Bronze NMM.

Pic 7. In this step I paint layer on whole Bronze elements with clean Rhinox Hide.

In this step I do not leave layer before, because final effect could be too dark.

But I had to paint layer before with mixed Rhinox Hide with Black paint, because of that this layer
from Pic 7. with clean Rhinox Hide is put very well and good cover whole area of Bronze
elements.

Tip:

Remember this if you decide to paint on black basecoat. Always start paint with color mixed
with black on first layers. 
Pic 8. In this step I mixed Rhinox Hide with Mournfang Brown, 50/50. And I painted two thin
layers leaving little shadows from layer before this time 

I leave especially around the neck and in bottom areas, not much, but it is well visible.

Let’s go on! 
Pic 9. In this step I painted new layer with clean Mournfang Brown paint from Citadel.

Here you can see stronger contrast between lights and shadows on Bronze elements.

Paint slowly and carefully 

Pic 10. In this step I added to Mournfang Brown from Citadel a little of Orange Brown from
Vallejo. About 60/40, more Mournfang Brown.

With this mix of paints I painted Bronze elements leaving more shadows from layer before. Here
is 2-3 layers of that mix.

I also do a sublte layer in shadows with black wash. One thin layer. But it improve shadows in the
future steps.
Pic 11. In this step I mixed Bestigor Flesh from Citadel and Orange Brown from Vallejo.

Now it is sketch of future highlights, it looks not smooth now. As you can see especially on the
head, I painted this layer with little dots. Metal in real like Brown Armor is not smooth in 100%
after war, so you can paint it little crispy. 
Pic 12. In this step you can see that I added little highlight with clean Bestigor Flesh.
Pic 13. Here you have the same view as at Pic 12. But from the other side. You can see the facture
on Bronze NMM.
Pic 14. In this step I back to the Grey Armor. I mixed White paint from Vallejo with Black Paint
from Vallejo. For this layer I mixed these paint in 60/40 with more white.

As you can see I painted in highlights areas leaving shadows from layer before.

Also I painted edges of armor and lines around the Bronze NMM.

Furthermore I painted rivets on the Bronze NMM, first with black around them, and then with
clean Ungor Flesh.

Pic 15. Here you can see the effect of Step from Pic 14. From the other side. As you can see it
started looks like Bronze 

It is almost ready, but still needs some work.

Pic 16. In this step I improve highlights on Grey armor with almost clean white paint, but only in
few places, edges, etc.

The same at the Bronze NMM elements. I painted edges on shoulder pad, around the neck etc.

Notice that you can do stronger highlights to white if you want. I decided to finish in this step 

I also painted few details, like horn on the shoulder pad, eyes and cables.
Pic 17. Here you can see finished model from the other side. I hope you like it!

The End 
