Wire type ASTM pentrameter shall be used. The IQI material selection shall be according to
standard practice SE 1025 or SE 747, as applicable and shall be radio graphically similar to the
material being radio graphed. The thickness on which the IQI is based shall be the nominal single
wall thickness plus the maximum permitted reinforcement thickness as per referencing code
section. When one or more film holders are used for an exposure .When Thickness is less than
or equal to 5mm, Wire type ASTM Pentrameter shall be used. one IQI shall be used for each
exposure and shall be placed so that the plane of the IQI is normal to the radiation beam. 1
Use of damaged or bend IQI strictly prohibited.
As far as possible IQI shall be located on source side of weld, where this is not practical provide
film side with lead marked ‘F’ adjacent to IQI.
Selection of IQI Shall be used for each applicable thickness as per ASME Section V Table T-276
spanned by minimum to maximum thickness of the area of interest to radiographed. For Film
length 12 inch and above both side IQI Shall be used
6.4. PERSONNEL:
The personnel performing the radiography testing task shall meet the BARC statutory
requirements. Certificate of RSO / Site-in charge, Radiographers shall be submitted.
Only BARC certified Radiographers are permitted to operate isotope/ Radiography camera.

8. FILM PROCESSING
Film processing shall be done in air conditioned dark room. Manual film processing shall be carried
out as per the guidelines of SE-94. Film processing chemicals shall be procured from reputed
manufacturer and shall not be used after expiry date. The solutions shall be prepared as per
Manufacturer’s recommendation. The film shall be developed at 20 deg C and in accordance with
the Manufacturer’s recommendation.
This document is developed by BOMS Private Limited and the information it contains is property of Indian Oil Corporation

9. QUALITY OF RADIOGRAPHS
The films submitted for evaluation shall be free from blemishes to the extent that they do not mask
with the image of any discontinuity in the area of interest of the object being radio graphed. Such
blemishes include, but are not limited to
a) Fogging,
b) Processing defects such as streaks, watermarks, chemical stains,
c) Scratches, finger marks, crimps, dirtiness, static marks, smudges,
d) False indications due to defective screens.
For any lot of film examined, the density of each individual film shall not be less than 1.8 for X-ray
sources, less than 2.0 for gamma ray sources, or greater than 3.8 for either type of source.
The IQI sensitivity obtained shall be equal or better than the requirement mentioned in Article 2 of
ASME Sec. V. Sensitivity of the radiographs shall be 2 %.
12. EVALUATION:
Qualified RT level II personnel meeting the requirements of SNT-TC-IA of ASNT shall evaluate the
radiographs. After review by BOMSPL, these radiographs shall be offered to T.EN for their review
and approval. 1
Acceptance criteria shall be as per ASME B 31.1 / ASME B31.3/ASME SEC.VIII DIV. I/ASME SEC
IX and relevant specifications.
Films and reports shall be maintained by BOMSPL and shall be handed over to Owner through
PMC.

Demonstration of the density, Ug and IQI requirement shall be considered satisfactory evidence of
compliance with this procedure.
During establishing radiographic procedure, source side pentameter shall be used wherever
practicable.
Radiography Procedure demonstration shall be as per Exhibit F attached on Contract Specification
No. - 077154C-00-PP-814 Rev.B.
14. CALIBRATION
Densitometers:
A national standard step tablet or a step wedge calibration film, traceable to a national standard
step tablet and having at least 5 steps with neutral densities from at least 1.0 through 4.0, shall be
used. The step wedge calibration film shall have been verified within the last year by comparison
with a national standard step tablet unless, prior to first use, it was maintained in the original light
tight and waterproof sealed package as supplied by the manufacturer. Step wedge calibration films
may be used without verification for one year upon opening, provided it is within the manufacturer’s
stated shelf life.
The densitometer manufacturer’s step-by-step instructions for the operation of the densitometer
shall be followed.
The density steps closest to 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, and 4.0 on the national standard step tablet or step
wedge calibration film shall be read.
The densitometer is acceptable if the density readings do not vary by more than ± 0.05 density
units from the actual density stated on the national standard step tablet or step wedge calibration
film.

5 % of Total Joints shall be selected by PMC/OWNER radiographed on the system/ test Package
for check shot .Check shot cost shall be done by M/S BOMS at own cost.
Weld profile of check shot shall be compared with weld profile observed in the earlier radiographs,
In the event of any variation between check shot and radiograph shall be reshoot the entire
radiograph on the that day radiograph for particular system/ Test Package
Defects ascertained ,through the inspection method which are beyond the acceptable llimit shall be
removed after the joint completely radio graphed by the process of chipping and grinding ,The
repaired weld shall be subjected ,as minimum requirement to the same testing and inspection of the
original weld.
Repairs to correct weld defects shall be made using the same WPS used for the original weld or
other previous authorized WPS. Weld repair procedure shall be established.
Only two attempts shall be allowed on any single defective area after that no any further attempts
allow without authorization of PMC/Owner.
When the entire joint is judged as unacceptable then the welding shall be completely cut and edges
suitably prepared as per required alignment tolerances, there welded joints shall be again the
examined following standard practices
No Repair shall be carried out without prior permission of PMC/Owner Inspector.
Repair and /or work of defective area shall be done in time to avoid difficulties in meeting the
construction schedules.

a) Keep all packages away from heat source, store in a cool, dry place at a temp. between 10˚c to
24˚c
b) RT Films Storage area should be free from Dust, chemical fumes and X-ray or Radioactive
material Radiation.
c) RT Films boxes should be stack vertically for avoiding pressure artifacts on the bottom of films.
