1. PLANNING INFORMATION

CAUTION
THIS SERVICE BULLETIN IS WRITTEN BASED ON
THE ORIGINAL HELICOPTER CONFIGURATION (AS
DEFINED IN THE INDIVIDUAL INSPECTION LOG
BOOK (RIC)). IT ALSO TAKES INTO ACCOUNT ALL
AIRBUS HELICOPTERS APPROVED
CONFIGURATION CHANGES MADE AFTER
DELIVERY, IF AIRBUS HELICOPTERS WAS
INFORMED OF THEM. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF
THE OPERATOR TO CHECK THE COMPATIBILITY
OF ANY MODIFICATIONS WITH THE CURRENT
HELICOPTER CONFIGURATION. IF MODIFICATIONS
ARE NOT COMPATIBLE, IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY
OF THE OPERATOR TO DEFINE THE NECESSARY
ADAPTATION WORK AND HAVE THEM APPROVED
BY THE AIR TRANSPORT AUTHORITIES IN THE
COUNTRY CONCERNED, AND TO MAKE SURE THAT
THEIR AIRWORTHINESS IS FOLLOWED UP.

1.C. REASON

The purpose of this Service Bulletin is to modify the parameters of the GTX 355R to add the ADS-B OUT
function (Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast) and identify again the entire GARMIN equipment line.

ADS-B out will be in compliance with the functions:


- 14 CFR §91.227 as per FAA AC 20-165B guidance material,
- EU 1207/2011 appendix II Part B as per EASA CS ACNS Certification Specifications appendix J.

1.D. DESCRIPTION

This Service Bulletin consists in:


- updating the software of the GTX 355R,
- identifying again the GARMIN equipment.

1.E.2. Compliance in service

Helicopters/installed equipment or parts:

If the GTX 335R transponder is sent to Airbus Helicopters for configuration:

The work must be performed on the helicopter by the operator.

Comply with paragraph 3.B. of this Service Bulletin except paragraph 3.B.2.c.

If the configuration of the GTX 335R transponder is performed by an Airbus Helicopters Technician:

The work must be performed on the helicopter by the operator and by the Airbus Helicopters Technician.

By the operator:

Comply with paragraph 3.B. of this Service Bulletin except paragraphs 3.B.2.b. and 3.B.2.c.

By the Airbus Helicopters Technician:

Comply with paragraph 3.B.2.c. of this Service Bulletin.

Non-installed equipment or parts:

The build-up of stocks for compliance with this Service Bulletin is left to the operator’s initiative.

The work must be performed by the operator on non-installed equipment.

At the operator's initiative, modify stocks as per paragraph 3.B.5.

The information or instructions relate to modification 074818, which was approved through the CRD
350ABN0332 issue E on February 27, 2020 under the authority of EASA Design Organization Approval
No. 21J.700 for civil version helicopters subject to an Airworthiness Certificate.

Approval of this document:

The technical information contained in this Service Bulletin Revision 0 was approved on April 29, 2020 under
the authority of EASA Design Organization Approval No. 21J.700 for civil version helicopters subject to an
Airworthiness Certificate.

1.G. MANPOWER

For compliance with this Service Bulletin, Airbus Helicopters recommends the following staff qualifications:

Qualifications:
- 1 Avionics Technician.
- 1 Airbus Helicopters Technician (for the configuration of the GTX 335R).

The Estimated Man-hours are indicated for reference purposes only and based on a standard helicopter
configuration.

Estimated man-hours:
- 14 hours for the Avionics Technician,
- 2 hours for the Airbus Helicopters Technician (for the configuration of the GTX 335R).

Estimated helicopter downtime is indicated for reference purposes only, based on a standard helicopter
configuration.

Helicopter downtime is estimated at 2 days (excluding time for the return of equipment or parts).

3. ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS

3.A. GENERAL

- As per Task 23-00-00,3-1 (AMM), read and comply with the general rules for communications.
- As per Task 24-00-00,3-1 (AMM), read and comply with the general electrical instructions.
- As per Task 34-00-00,3-1 (AMM), read and comply with the general navigation system instructions.
- As per Work Card 20-02-01-418 (MTC), read and comply with the general instructions for the protection of
electrical wiring during maintenance operations.
- As per Work Card 20-06-01-101 (MTC), read and comply with the general instructions for bonding using
adhesive.

Unless indicated otherwise, tighten to standard torque as per Work Card 20-02-05-404 (MTC).

3.B. WORK STEPS

3.B.1. Preliminary steps

- Park the helicopter in a maintenance hangar.


- Install the appropriate access equipment.
- Disconnect all the electrical power supplies.
- Remove and/or open all cowlings, panels, doors and all equipment items to enable adequate access to the
various work areas.

3.B.2. Procedure

3.B.2.a. Removal of the GMA 350H, GTN 650H, GDU 620, GNC 255A and GSU 75H equipment

- Remove:
. the GTN 650H (a) as per Task 23-00-00,4-1 (AMM),
. the GNC 225A (b) as per Task 23-00-00,4-1 (AMM),
. the GMA 350H (c) as per Task 23-00-00,4-1 (AMM),
. the GDU 620 (d) as per Task 34-28-00,4-4 (AMM),
. the GSU 75H (f) as per Task 34-28-00,4-1 (AMM).

NOTE 1

The above equipment items must only be removed if their


identification label cannot be accessed without removal

3.B.2.b. Configuration of GTX 335R transponder by returning

3.B.2.b.1. To Airbus Helicopters

- Remove the GTX 335R transponder (e) as per Task 34-51-39,4-1 (AMM).
- Send the GTX 335R transponder (e) to Airbus Helicopters as per paragraph 2.D.

When receiving the GTX 355R transponder (2), check the P/N as per paragraph 2.D. and Appendix 4.B.

3.B.2.b.2. To a GARMIN maintenance centers

- Remove the GTX 335R transponder (e) as per Task 34-51-39,4-1 (AMM).
- Send the the GTX 335R transponder (e) and a copy of this Service Bulletin to a GARMIN Maintenance
center as per paragraph 2.D.
- Configure the GTX 335R transponder (e) as per Appendix 4.C.

NOTE 2

If necessary, contact the GARMIN network to find the nearest


maintenance center.

When receiving the GTX 355R transponder (2), check the P/N as per paragraph 2.D. and Appendix 4.B.

3.B.2.c. Configuration of the GTX 335R by an Airbus Helicopters Technician

NOTE 3

The Airbus Helicopters Technician must be equipped with a


PC (yy), a cable (zz), a name plate (1) and the
Service Bulletin GARMIN 1990.

- Comply with Appendix 4.C.


- In place of the existing name plate, install the name plate (1), completed as per Appendices 4.A. and 4.B.

3.B.2.d. New identification of the GMA350H, GTN 650H, GDU 620, GNC 255A and GSU 75H equipment
(Figures 1 to 5)

- Remove and discard the existing name plates.


- In the place of the existing name plates, install the name plates (1), completed as per Appendices 4.A.
and 4.B.:
. with the P/N 350A04-3196-01 on the GTN 650 (a) as per Figure 1,
. with the P/N 350A04-3196-02 on the GNC 255A (b) as per Figure 2,
. with the P/N 350A04-3196-03 on the GMA 350H (c) as per Figure 3,
. with the P/N 350A04-3196-05 on the GDU 620 (d) as per Figure 4,
. with the P/N 350A04-3196-05 on the GSU 75H (f) as per Figure 5.

3.B.2.e. Installation of the GMA 350H, GTN 650H, GDU 620, GTX 335R, GNC 255A and GSU 75H equipment

- Install:
. the GTN 650H (a) as per Task 23-00-00,4-1 (AMM),
. the GNC 255A (b) as per Task 23-00-00,4-1 (AMM),
. the GMA 350H as per Task 23-00-00,4-1 (AMM),
. the GDU 620 (d) as per Task 34-28-00,4-4 (AMM),
. the GSU 75H (f) as per Task 34-28-00, 4-1 (AMM),
. the GTX 335R (2) as par Task 34-51-39,4-1 (AMM).

NOTE 4

The above equipment items must only be installed if they were


removed in paragraph 3.B.2.a. and 3.B.2.b.

3.B.3. Tests

- Set the helicopter to test condition.


- Connect again all the electrical power supplies.
- Energize the helicopter electrical power systems.
- Make sure that there is no error message when starting the GTN 650H.
- Make sure that the GTX 335R transponder operates correctly:
. make sure that there is no red “X” in the data field in the upper RH side,
. enter the code “7000” into the transponder and then press” ENTER”,
. make sure that the code entered is displayed in the data field.

CAUTION

NEVER USE THE DISTRESS CODES (0000, 7500,


7600, 7700). INFORM THE LOCAL TEST
ORGANIZATIONS OF THE TRANSPONDER TEST.

- Make sure that the “SELT TEST” of the GMA 350H is “OK”.
- If the GSU 75H was removed, make sure that it operates correctly:
. on the PFD (Primary Flight Display) and the GDU 620 screen, make sure that the AHRS (Attitude and
Heading Reference System) initializes,
. make sure that an altitude and a bearing are displayed within 5 minutes after starting.

3.B.4. Final steps

- De-energize the helicopter electrical power systems.


- Clean and restore the work areas and the helicopter as per Work Card 20-07-03-408 (MTC).
- Install again or close all cowlings, panels, doors and equipment removed and/or opened during preliminary
steps (paragraph 3.B.1. of this Service Bulletin).
- Connect again all the electrical power supplies.
- Remove the access equipment.
- Set the helicopter to flight condition.

3.B.5. Work steps for non-installed equipment or parts

Stock replacement and new stock build-up are the responsibility of the operator.

4.C. Upgrade of the GTX 335R transponder
Installation:

- Open the accesses to the GTX 335R transponder (e) and to the USB connector (see Figure 1).

- Energize the helicopter electrical power systems.


- Make sure that the TDR (PP50 / 50 ALPHA) and TRANSP (PP / 31 ALPHA 32) circuit breakers are closed.
- Set the Avionics switch to “ON”.
- Press the COM 1 / NAV 1 button (the “OFF” part must be off - see Figure 2).

- The GTX 335R is now energized.


- Connect the USB cable (zz) to the transponder and to the PC (yy).
- Launch the “GTX Install Tool” software on the PC (yy) and select “Configure Transponder”.

NOTE

The GTX Install Tool software P/N 006-a0271-21 is available:


- on the GARMIN Dealer Resource website, as indicated on
the Service Bulletin GARMIN 1660,
- or contact Airbus Helicopters to obtain it.

CAUTION
IT IS IMPORTANT TO IDENTIFY “SET” IN THE “UNIT
MODE” FRAME AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE
WHICH IS USED FOR RESET AND THE “SET”
BUTTON WHICH APPEARS ON THE PAGES TO BE
CONFIGURED AND IS USED TO CONFIRM THE
PARAMETER MODIFICATIONS.

Configuration of the GTX 335R

- Open the “configuration” tab.


- In the “Airframe” sub-tab.
- Enter the parameter:
. Set 1090 ES Out Control to PILOT CONTROLLED (or PILOT SET if config tool version < 4.02).
- Click on “Set” to confirm the parameter.
- In the “Interfaces” sub-tab, interface configuration “Serial” sub-section.
- Enter the parameters:
. Set Input Channel 1 / Format to ADC (or Air Data if config tool version < 4.02),
. Set Input Channel 2 / Format to EFIS Air Data (or EFIS / Air Data if config tool version < 4.02).
- Click on “Set” to confirm the parameter.
- In the “Sensors” sub-tab.
- Enter the parameters:
. Set GPS 1 / Source Integrity Level to 10^-7,
. Set GPS 1 / Lateral Antenna Offset to 0,
. Set GPS 1 / Longitudinal Antenna Offset to 10m.
- Click on “Set” to confirm the parameter.

Check the configuration

- Generate a configuration summary:


. on the LH upper part of the window, click on ‘GTX’ then ‘Configuration’ then ‘View Summary’,
. make sure that the parameters previously modified were taken into account.
- Click on GTX  Configuration  Push to Configuration Module.
- Reset the equipment with the “SET” button in the “Unit mode” frame at the bottom of the page in normal
mode and wait until the GTX335R started again to make sure that there is no anomaly or active error in the
“Status” tab.
- Close the “Configuration summary” page.
- De-energize the helicopter electrical power systems.
