おめでとうございます Congratulations(more polite) Omedetōgozaimasu

じゃまた Okay. Bye! Ja mata

また あした See you tomorrow Mata ashita

またあとで See you later Mata atode

はじめまして Nice to meet you (used in the first meeting) Hajimemashite

よるしくおねがいします Please be kind Yorushiku onegaishimasu

いってきます I’m leaving (used when going outside the house.


Ittekimasu
Literally means “I will go and come
back”)
いってらしゃい Proper response for ⾏ってきます (ittekimasu), Itterasshai
literally means “please go and come
back”.
ただいま Translated as “I’m back”. Tadaima

おかえりなさい Translated as “Welcome home”. Proper response Okaerinasai


for ただいま
(tadaima).
おかえり A more polite version of おかえり (okaeri). Okaeri

いただきます Thanks for the food! (Used when you’re about to Itadakimasu
eat).
What a well prepared dish! (Used after you eat as a Goshisōusamadeshita
ごしそうさまでした
compliment to the one who prepared it).

おじゃまします Sorry for intruding (Used when entering other Ojamashimasu


people’s house)
ありがとうございました Thank you very much(more polite) Arigatōgozaimashita

ごめんなさい Gomen'nasai
I’m sorry (often used for someone equal or
lower status)
ごめん Less polite version of ごめんなさい Gomen
(gomennasai)
すみません Excuse me / Sorry (a polite word) Sumimasen

もうしわけありません I apologize (a formal apology used by worker Mōushiwake arimasen
