Pablo Picasso and Dora Maar - A Dialogue with the Fondation Beyeler
Corraini Edizioni 2022 ISBN 9791254930007 Acqn 32613
Pb 17x24cm 80pp col ills £19.75
'Pablo Picasso and Dora Maar' investigates the mutual influences and intense exchanges
between the two artists, bringing to light Maar not only as the object of representation for Picasso,
his lover, and muse, but as a multifaceted artist in her own right, a photographer at the height of
her career and a major intellectual reference point for the Spanish artist. Focusing on the years
1935-1944, the publication explores the interpretation of their artistic partnership through essays
by Raphael Bouvier, curator at the Fondation Beyeler in Basel, and Emma Lewis, assistant
curator at Tate Modern.

This book is not a proper catalogue raisonne, but rather an invitation to browse the library of an
amateur. It allows us to consider an important aspect of Richard Prince's work, addressing books
as well as the notion of a collection and its incompleteness, revealed here by the "ghosts" of
missing books. It encompasses his library and his production of artists' books over the past four
decades, the direct result of an avid book designer and collector who is also widely recognised for
his painterly and photographic practice. His zeal for bound works is expressed in many instances
where he photographs tomes from his own collection, transforming the publication into an infinite
library.

The artist Orlan has played a pioneering role in the history of performance art, feminist art, and
new technologies. By stepping outside the frame, she made her own body the raw material of her
art. This book is published with an eponymous exhibition in Toulouse which examines how Orlan
has used sculpture and the plasticity of the body to question social phenomena. Her body of work
encompasses not only sculpture but also photography, video, performance, video games,
augmented reality, artificial intelligence, and robotics. The book highlights the critical issues at
stake in Orlan's practice, which has always been sensitive to the periods in which it was
produced.

This catalogue appears with Belgian artist Dieter De Greef's first solo show at a European
museum, 'coup de theatre' at CAC Malaga, which features a selection of paintings created over
the last four years specifically for the occasion. Like a play or a film, De Greef's works are
characterised by the use of a saturated colour palette, interspersing abstract, even cartoonish
pop art or fauvist elements to portray fictional landscapes or scenes inspired by photographs he
finds online. He uses the same tools as a director to draw attention, build suspense, and surprise.
Many of his paintings feature young, beautiful women, often nude, positioned in natural, idyllic
surroundings.

honor the memory of the divers, their culture and their music. The pearls of the Gulf have stoked
the imagination and desire of people around the world for centuries, their magnificence matched
only by the courage of the divers who found them. This project aims to honor the memory of
these valiant free-divers, their culture and their music by the means of a 2XLP compilation with
undisclosed original recordings of pearl divers and inspired modern-day compositions by artists
like Tomaga, YPY, Ben Betrand, Tarek Yamani or Hieroglyphic Being.

Stephanie Oursler self-published "5 CUTS" in 1975 with a small number of copies, on the
occasion of her exhibition of the same name which took place in Rome, Bari, Milan and Como.
She combines stills from unidentified silent films with autobiographical texts, and in doing so
creates an open narration of her life, which is both an intimate recollection and a literary
construction. A poetic depth unfolds in Oursler's language, which-in connection with the
sometimes concrete, sometimes surreal and enigmatic images-approaches the essence of
memory.

realized aboard the International Space Station (ISS) in 2017, implemented by French astronaut

sheds light on the artist's intentions.

Spaces for Reflection, the series of works printed in this volume, while not exhibited at the
Kunstverein Braunschweig was intimately linked to the conception of that exhibition. Addressing
the practice of scrolling through image feeds of nearly empty white rooms online, these pictures
of the artist's computer screen are imbued with distancing qualities: loss of resolution, loss of
contrast, a misty dimming of light, reflections, and the moire pattern over their surfaces, inviting to
reckon and question our contemporary viewing conventions.

Vogliamo Tutto. Cultural Practices and Labor has its origin in the novel Vogliamo tutto (1971) by
Nanni Balestrini, whose protagonist Alfonso Natella became the voice of an entire generation as
well as the workers' movements in 1968 Turin. In 2021, thirteen artists were invited to reflect on
the change of labor in the contemporary context. The result is a sum of choral voices and
practices, which together outline the peculiar transformative nature of labor and its socio-cultural
context over a wide time span: from the impact of the Industrial Revolution to the post-industrial
decline and the shifts of the digital era.

Paloma Bosque's work unfolds from an investigation of the materiality as a way to question the
dominance of the visual in the apprehension and definition of reality. By challenging the Western
definitions of animate and the inanimate, her sculptures and installations take materiality a
channel to access a dimension beyond language or where things cannot yet be named. Over the
past few years, her sculptural practice has been accompanied by a textual production presented
for the first time in this publication, together with an extensive overview of works spanning the last
decade, an essay by Catalina Lozano, and a conversation with Fernanda Brenner.

early cycle of research and productions. Interweaving a selection of works by the artist, and a

which the artist refers to as 'her ecosystem'. Aurelie Petrel (born 1980 in Lyon, France)'s
photographic practice questions the status of the image, its use and the mechanisms of its
production.
