COURSE GUIDE:
• Health Information System for Medical Laboratory Science. This is a 3-unit course, with2
units lecture and 1unit laboratory.
• This course offers an overview of knowledge in information management and
technology. It also presents a wide range of health care delivery systems in the
Philippines and how this system employs various types of health information systems for
its existence and operational needs.
• This also provides an understanding of the core concepts of the health information
system as applied in the practice of the medical laboratory science profession.
• In addition, this course allows learners to have an actual interface of the three major
health information systems such as Hospital Information System (HIS), Laboratory
Information System (LIS) and Material Management Information System (MMIS).
• Specific contents, e-links, e-books and other learning materials will provided for you.
• In this course you are encouraged to attend and actively participate in the on-line class,
collaborate with your peers, respect their ideas,critically and creatively answer the tasks
assigned to you for every topic. On time submission of requirements/tasks should be
done. Honesty must be practiced at all times especially during examinations and in doing
the tasks.
• If you have any questions, post it on Google classroom or in our HIS group chat.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the end of the course and given simulated and actual conditions, you should be able to:
• demonstrate effective communication skills in providing knowledge in information management
and technology;
• discuss the health care delivery system in the Philippines;
• provide information how health care delivery system employs various types of health
information systems for all its operational needs;
• engage in the application of health information technology in the clinical laboratory;
• appreciate the importance of the core concepts of health information system as applied in the
practice of medical laboratory science.;
