POLYNOMIALS
1. One-fourth of a herd of camels was seen in the forest. Twice the square root of the herd had
gone to the mountains and the remaining 15 camels were seen on the bank of a river. Find
the total number of camels.
2 If (x-2) and (2x-1) are factors of px²+5x+r, show that p = r.
3. Simplify: (a + b)3 − (a − b)3 − 6b(a2 − b2 ).
4. The polynomial P(x) = kx 3 + 9x 2 + 4x − 8 when divided by (x + 3) leaves a remainder
10 (1 ─ k). Find the value of k.
5. Factorize : (a) 𝑥 8 − 𝑦 8 (b) 𝑎3 − 2√2𝑏3
6. If x 2 + px + q = (x + a) (x + b), then factorize x 2 + pxy + q𝑦 2.
7. Determine the value of a for which the polynomial 2x 4 − ax 3 + 4x 2 + 2x + 1 is divisible by
(1-2x).
8. Evaluate (104)³ by using suitable identity.
9. Simplify: (a + 2b + 3c)2 − (a − 2b − 3c)2 − 6b2 − 9bc.
10. If a + b = 10 and a2 + b2 = 58, then find the value of a3 + b3 .
11. Let R1 and R2 are the remainder when the polynomials x3+2x2−5ax−7 and x3+ax2 −12x+6 are
divided by x+1 and x−2 respectively. If 2R1+R2=6, find the value of a.
12. Find the remainder when the polynomial x3 + 3x2 + 3x +1 is divided by x+1.
13. Case study
An object which is thrown or projected into the air, subject to only the acceleration of
gravity is called a projectile, and its path is called trajectory. This curved path was shown
by Galileo to be a parabola. Parabola is represented by a polynomial. If the polynomial to
represent the distance covered is P(x)= -3x²+24x+12
(I) Find the height of the projectile 5sec. and 8 sec. after its launch.
(II) If equation of parabola is given by p(x) = 3x²-2x-4, find the value of p(0), p(1) and p(2).
QUADRILATERALS
14. If E is the mid-point of a median AD of ΔABC and BE is produced to meet AC at F. Show that

15. E and F are respectively the mid-points of the non- parallel sides AD and BC of a trapezium

ABCD. Prove that EF||AB and EF = 2 (AB + CD).
16. Prove that the line joining the mid-points of the diagonals of a trapezium is parallel to the
parallel sides of the trapezium.
17. If ∆ABC is an isosceles triangle in which AB = AC. D and E are the midpoints of sides AB and
AC and DE =3.5cm. Find the perimeter of ∆ABC, when AD = 4.5cm.

18. P and Q are points on opposite sides AD and BC of a parallelogram ABCD such that PQ
passes through the point of intersection ‘O’ of its diagonals AC and BD. Show that PQ is
bisected at O.
19. If PQ and RS are two equal and parallel line segments. Any point M not lying on PQ or RS is
joined to Q and S lines through parallel to QM and through R parallel to SM meet at N. Prove
that line segments MN and PQ are equal and parallel to each other.
20. In the given figure, ABCD is a parallelogram and ∠DAB = 60°. If the bisectors AP and BP of
angles ∠A and ∠B, respectively meets at P on CD. Prove that P is the mid-point of CD.

21. If P is the mid-point of the side CD of a parallelogram ABCD. A line through C parallel to PA
intersects AB at Q and DA produced at R. Prove that: (I) DA = AR. (II) CQ = QR
22. Case study
Kajal is studying in X standard, her grandfather purchases a plot, which is in a square shape
(shown in fig.). After visiting the land few questions came in her mind. Give answers to her
questions by looking at the figure.

(I) Measure of ∠QPO, ∠POQ.


(II) If OP = 4cm, then find the value of OQ.

23. In the given figure BD = DC and ∠DBC = 15°. Find ∠BDC. (Fig.a)

25. Prove that the right bisector of a chord of a circle, bisects the corresponding arc of the circle.
26. If the length of a chord of a circle is 16cm and is at a distance of 15cm from the centre of the

27. AB is a chord of a circle having centre O. If ∠AOB = 60°, then prove that the chord AB is of
radius length.

29. AB and AC are two chords of a circle of radius r such that AB = 2AC. If p and q are the
distances of AB and AC from the centre, then prove that 4q² = p²+3r².

31. In the given figure, ∠ADC = 130° and chord BC = chord BE. Find ∠CBE.

32. Case study


A circular garden as shown in figure. It has a different type of trees, plants and flower plants
In his garden.
In the garden, there are two mango trees A and B at a distance of AB= 10m. Similarly, he has
two Ashoka trees at the same distance of 10m as shown at C and D.
If AB subtends ∠AOB= 140° at the centre O, the perpendicular distance of AC from centre is
8m. The radius of the circle is 17m.

On the basis of above information, answer the following questions.


(I) What is the value of ∠COD, ∠OAB?
(II) What is the distance between tree A to tree C?
CONSTRUCTIONS
33. Construct a ∆PQR in which PQ = 6cm, QR = 6cm and median PM = 4cm.
34. Construct a ∆ABC in which BC = 10cm, ∠B = 45ᵒ and AB-AC = 5cm.
35. Construct an equilateral triangle if its altitude is 3.2cm.
36. Draw the perpendicular bisector of a line segment of length 8cm and justify the
construction.
37. Construct a triangle ABC in which BC = 5cm, ∠B = 60˚ and AC + AB = 7.5cm.
38. Construct a ∆PQR, in which QR = 6.5 cm, ∠Q = 60° and PR – PQ = 1.5 cm and justify it.
39. Construct an equilateral triangle whose altitude is 3.5 cm. Also, give its justification.
SURFACE AREAS AND VOLUMES
40. If h, c and V are height, curved surface area and volume of a cone respectively, prove that:

41. A hemispherical bowl of internal diameter 36 cm contains a liquids. This liquid is to be filled in
cylindrical bottles of radius 3 cm and height 6 cm. How many bottles are required to empty the

42. Three cubes of metal whose edges are in the ratio 3 : 4 : 5 are melted down into a single cube
whose diagonal is 12√3 cm. Find the edges of the three cubes.
43. In a cylinder, if radius is halfed and height is doubled, then find its volume.
44. A storage tank is in the form of a cube. When it is full of water, the volume of water is
15.625m³. If the present depth of water is 1.3m, then find the volume of water already used
from the tank.
45. A semi-circular sheet of metal of diameter 28 cm is bent to form an open conical cap. Find
the capacity of the cap.
46. The difference between outside and inside surfaces of a cylindrical metallic pipe 14cm long
is 44cm². If the pipe is made of 88cm³ of metal. Find outer and inner radii of the pipe.
47. A sphere and a right circular cylinder of the same radius have equal volumes. By what
percentage does the diameter of the cylinder exceed its heights?
48. The volume of right circular cone is 9856cm³. If the diameter of the base is 28 cm, then find
(I) Height of the cone.
(II) Slant height of the cone.
(III) Curved surface area of the cone.
49. Find the ratio of the curved surface areas of two cones, if the diameter of their bases are
equal and slant heights are in the ratio 3:4.
50. Case study
Mathematics teacher of a school took her 9 th standard students to show Red Fort. It was a
part of their educational trip. The teacher had interest in history and she narrated the facts
of Red fort to students. Then, the teacher said in this monument, one can find combination
of solid figures. There are 2 pillars which are cylindrical in shape. Also, 2 domes at the
corners which are hemispherical. 7 smaller doms at the centre. Flag hoisting ceremony on
independence day take place near these domes.

(I) How much cloth material will be required to cover to big doms each of radius 7 metres?
(Take, π=22/7)
(II) If the radius of cylinderical pillar is 7m and height is 14 m, then find its volume.
PROBABILITY
51. The record of a weather station shows that out of the past 250 consecutive weather forecast
were correct 175 times.
(i) What is the probability that on a given day it was correct?

52. Over the past 200 working days, the number of defective parts produced by a machine is
given in the following table:

54. Cards marked with the numbers 2 to 101 are placed in a box and mix thoroughly. One card
is drawn from this box. Find the probability that the number on the card is
(i) an even number.

(iii) a number, which is a perfect square.
55. If the difference between the probability of success and failure of an event is 5/19. Find the
probability of success and failure of the event

58. The probabilities of a student getting A, B, C and D grades are 0.35, 0.25, 0.35, and 0.05.
Then, find the probability that
(I) a student gets atmost grade C.
(II) a student gets at least grade C.
59. Case study
One day, during games period four friends A, B, C and D planned to play games using
number cards. They prepared 25 number cards with labelled 1 to 25 and then, they put all
the number cards in the empty chalk box available in the classroom. In this game, every

friend was asked to pick the card randomly and after each draw, card was replaced back in
the chalk box.
(I) If the card drawn in first case is replaced and 2nd boy draws a card. What is the
probability getting a composite number?
(II) If all cards drawn are replaced, then what is the probability of getting a multiple 3 and 5?
