Total 9 1 10

7. OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAM:

a. To enhance the least mastered skills of students with failing grades in science;
b. To give more learning opportunities for those students who have difficulty in
complying with the subject;
c. To provide intervention/assessment tools that help students master
competency-based skills they were not able to develop during a regular class.
8. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
In this activity, the proponents conducted Remedial Classes on science 9
using Strategic Intervention Material (SIM) as reflected in the frequency of error/correct
responses, to bridge the learning gaps identified in Grade 9 Students from the result of
least / most mastered skills.

It was previously identified that some Grade 9 students in science failed to reach
the mastery level on specific learning competencies, i.e., Explain what happens when
volcanoes erupt, (S9ES -IIIb-28) and illustrate how energy from volcanoes
may be tapped for human use (S9ES –IIIc-d-29).

In an attempt to close the learning gap, the teacher conducted a remediation

session/class and used Strategic Intervention Material (SIM), and provided a SIM that
contains activities utilized to inspire and pique students’ interests.
The proponent conceptualized and designed Strategic Instructional Material for
students who needed support to make progress in their studies. These will increase and
deepen the skills, knowledge, and understanding of science, particularly on volcanoes.
Furthermore, this Strategic Instructional Material tends to reteach the lessons which are
not so clear to the students and to help them gain mastery of the skills.

9. M&E ANALYSIS BASED ON QATAME TOOLS USED / RECOMMENDATIONS:

The intervention was carried out satisfactorily. Formative and summative
evaluations were conducted after the intervention materials were distributed to the
students, and the results showed that the students had improved in terms of their skill
knowledge.
After the program was completed, the target students showed improved
performance of the required skills on the competency test. This is a successful
conclusion of a plan aimed to minimize the learning gaps of particular students identified
by proponents as the least-mastered skills and competencies.
