I. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS : Show complete formulas, solutions, and figures.

Round off to 3 decimal places for lengths. Angles
must be in degrees, minutes, and seconds (° ‘ “)
and seconds should not include decimals anymore
(ex. 1°1’36.52” should be 1°1’37”). DO NOT FORGET
YOUR UNITS. Enclose all final answers in a box.
File submissions should be a single PDF.
II. PROBLEM SOLVING

*** Sign Convention: values are positive when the vertical goes upward and the
horizontal goes to the right

1) Using the triangle method, determine the magnitude and direction of

the resultant and the equilibrant of the 2 given forces. (10 pts)

Force A = 316lb / 20° E of S

Force B = 518lb / 15° N of E

2) Using the Component method, determine the magnitude and direction of

the resultant and the equilibrant of the given forces. (15 pts)

Force A = 316lb / 20° E of S

Force B = 518lb / 15° N of E
Force C = 111lb / W 05° S

**Note: The bearing of the resultant and equilibrant’s angle

should be with respect to the vertical reference.

3) Given Vector 𝐴⃗ = 3𝑖̂ − 16𝑗̂ − 15𝑘̂, determine the following: (15 pts)
a) Magnitude of vector A in lbs.
b) Unit vector of A
c) Vector notation of vector B having a magnitude of 152 lbs.

4) Determine the dot product and cross product of the 2 given vectors.
𝐴⃗ = 3𝑖̂ − 16𝑗̂ − 15𝑘̂
⃗⃗ = −55𝑖̂ + 2𝑗̂ − 23𝑘̂
𝐵 Note: cross product is 𝐴⃗ x 𝐵
