1.0 INTRODUCTION
2
Defined as the difference between the input and output of a system in the limit as time goes to infinity
(i.e. when the response has reached the steady state). The steady-state error will depend on the type of
input (step, ramp, parabolic) as well as the system type (0, I, or II) . Steady-state error analysis only
applicable when the system response is stable. Unstable system cannot be analyzed for steady-state error.
It is important to check for system stability before performing a steady-state error analysis.
2.0 OBJECTIVE
I. Conducting a simulation of a closed loop system using Scilab (Xcos ) and applying G(s)
II. Evaluating steady-state error step, error and parabolic input.
III. Analyze graph pattern from steady state error step, ramp and parabolic inputs.

5. In Palette Browser window, select STEP_FUNCTION block and CLOCK_c blocks from
source category. Set step input to 5v
10. From main menu, click on Simulation > Setup then set final integration time at 10 second
(1.0E01).
11. Run the model and observe output generated from Scope.
12. You may need to adjust graph scale by click Edit > Figure properties to get better view.
13. To pick up specific point value on graph, click Edit > Start datatip manager then click on
desired point.

4.0 RESULT OF EXPERIMENT
Understand how to find the steady-state error for a unity feedback system by Xcos.
Questions:
a) Calculate the steady-state error and record the output response. Give comment based on your
results.

Calculation
From the graph obtained using Scilab ( Xcos ), it indicate the system are stable in the early ( 0
until 1 minutes ) because ramp input pattern. After that, the graph from Scilab ( Xcos ) shown
the unit step function pattern. This indicates the system are less stable.

b) Repeat the same system for ramp inputs and parabolic inputs and calculate the steady state error for
each response.

5.0 CONCLUSION
Based laboratory experiment conducted in SciLab ( Xcos ), all the objective are
achieved. Students are successfully conducted a simulation of a closed loop system using
Xcos and construction of a system by applying G(s) as input. Besides that, the steady state
error, step, ramp and parabolic inputs are successfully evaluated using SciLab ( Xcos ) .
Lastly, students are able read different type of graph pattern.
