    Personal Statement

    As I take the next step to the future I can say that I am grateful for the opportunity

    I was given to be able to learn and study. My family are immigrants and so having a

    child that is about to graduate from high school is a big deal for them because they

    didn't get to have the opportunity that I have to study in school and get a decent job.

    While it is true that they have pressured me into getting good grades, they have always

    believed that I should do what I want to in the future and for that I am grateful. Through

    my own experience, I have learned the importance of changing. My goal is to become a

    florist or at least to get into a job in the floral industry and bring happiness to the people

    that have the opportunity to buy from me.

    When I started High school I had no idea of how big the job world truly is. When I

    first started in my freshman year I decided to join an Exploration of Agriculture class and

    that truly changed my life. I was given information about the agriculture industry and it

    led me to be a member of FFA. As the next year continued I decided to join Floral

    design and thanks to my teacher I had an enjoyable time being able to make floral

    arrangements that were beautiful and colorful. At the end of 2021, I was able to receive

    my Principles of Floral design certificate and was able to open a new door in my life. I

    am very thankful to my mom for being there for me and enjoying every arrangement I

    ever made. While it is true that Floral design helped me, there was also another reason

    that motivated me and that was my mother. Growing up in Oaxaca, Mexico my mom
    never had the opportunity to enjoy her life and have hobbies due to the fact she was the

    2nd oldest of 10. She had to grow up taking care of her siblings and working to help out

    my grandparents. However, now that she lives in Merced, California she now makes

    sure to always grow her garden of flowers and vegetables.

    My Highschool career has prepared me for the intense job world in the future. I

    have taken many classes related to agriculture to this day to prepare me and to be

    knowledgeable. I fully expect myself to finish my time at high school with many more

    experiences and skills. I strongly believe that going into the floral industry is something

    that I must do to make people around me happy even just a little and put everything I

    have learned up till this day to make colorful, unique, and beautiful floral arrangements.
