Annotated Bibliography

“American Modernism.” HiSoUR, 20 Apr. 2019, https://www.hisour.com/american-modernism-

34668/.

Summarizes the history around American Modernism and different parts of it. It looks at
the influence of Jazz, and paintings, photography, sexuality, everyday life, and fashion. I
have used the history and Jazz informational parts in my Multi-Genre Project. This
source is used in the FAQ, Timeline, and the Three by Three. The source has no author
listing or any sort of contact information, but its information is supported and not
contradicted by other sources.
Landau, Elizabeth. “10 Crucial Things That Result from Einstein's Theories of Relativity.”

SciTechDaily, 29 Aug. 2020, https://scitechdaily.com/10-crucial-things-that-result-from-

einsteins-theories-of-relativity/.

States and lightly explains ten results from Einstein’s theories of relativity with related
evidence of experiments or observations that were made proving those ten results. This
was used to explain a point on the Timeline part of my project. SciTechDaily has been up
for 24 years and has been praised by news sites like the NY Times and has been
nominated in the Science Category for a Webby Award. Landau works for NASA as the
Senior Communications Specialist.
“Modernist Literature Guide: Understanding Literary Modernism.” MasterClass, MasterClass,

14 Apr. 2021, https://www.masterclass.com/articles/modernist-literature-guide#12-

notable-modernist-writers.

Defines Modernist Literature and provides five characteristics of it including

experimentation, individualism, and multiple perspectives and then names a few authors
and gives some information on who they are. This provided answers to the FAQ
questions and helped influenced some of the three-by-three sentences. MasterClass is run
by experts in their field and dozens of experts in their field have worked with
MasterClass making it very credible by having the masters in their field provide the
information given. The MasterClass staff wrote this article.
Olswing, Emma. “Interdisciplinary Essay Assignment: Explaining The Pessimism of T.S. Eliot’s

The Waste Land Through The Lens of Social Science.” Emma Olswing's EPortfolio,

2013, https://bu.digication.com/emmaolswing/

Explaining_The_Pessimism_of_T.S._Eliot_s_The_Waste.
Analyses T. S. Eliot’s “The Waste Land” argues that the meaning of the poem is a
pessimistic view of society and all its constructs including marriage and even sex. This
was used in the timeline to explain the point of T. S. Eliot’s “The Waste Land” being
written and to explain the significance of it. The author is Emma Olswing, and she has
written a fair amount on different texts and works of art for her degree at Boston
University.
“The Speakeasies of the 1920s.” Prohibition, The Mob Museum,

https://prohibition.themobmuseum.org/the-history/the-prohibition-underworld/the-

speakeasies-of-the-1920s/.

Describes the start of speakeasies and links the cultural changes caused by them—
intermingling of men and women and black and white people—to the start of date culture
and the creation of the cocktail. It also describes prominent practices of speakeasies and
famous figure in the bootlegging and mafia industry. I used the part about the cocktails to
make an Ode about them. The Mob Museum runs the site and has been praised by The
NY Times and USA Today. The museum is non-profit, and its purpose is to educate
people on the organized crime industry.
“What Is Modernism?” The University of Toledo, The University of Toledo - Canaday Center,

https://www.utoledo.edu/library/canaday/guidepages/Modernism2.html.

Answers the question of what modernism is and goes on to expand upon that with literary
techniques and influential authors. I used different parts in the FAQ to provide answers to
the questions asked and three by three to influence some sentences. The University of
Toledo runs the site, and the Canaday Center houses their literary works making it well
versed in literature.
