F. UNLOCKING OF THE DIFFICULT TERMS

During our discussion, we might encounter some

difficult words. Let us first define what are these
words:

Meal management – is a series of events concerned

with menu planning, food purchasing, preparation
and serving meal.

Menu- a menu is a presentation of food and

beverage offerings

Main Dish - The main course is the featured or

primary dish in a meal consisting of several
courses.

Beverage - a drink, especially one other than water.

Dessert - the sweet course eaten at the end of a

meal.

Appetizer - a small dish of food or a drink taken

before a meal or the main course of a meal to
stimulate one's appetite.

G. LESSON PROPER

ACTIVITY
No sir.

For our lesson proper activity, you are going to

create a “menu plan”.

(learners listening for instructions of the

activity)
Do you know how to create a menu plan?

I’ll be dividing the class into 3 groups: blue, green

and yellow team.

Each group will be making a menu plan depending

on their stock knowledge during grade school days.

Each group will pick a representative to present

their output in front of the class.

I’ll be giving you 4 minutes for this activity.

And before I forget, here is a rubric for this activity.

Yes, Sir!

(Learners started to collaborate for the

Are you all ready? activity)

Are my instructions clear?

Do you have your group now?

Timer starts, NOW!

(Check the students collaborative work)

(after the collaboration)

Now, let’s see if you’ve created the menu plan

correctly.

Representatives for each group you may start

presenting your work in front.

Let’s start with the yellow team first and so on.

ANALYSIS

For the yellow team, are you sure with your Yes, Sir!
answers? Are you confident in choosing the words
to put in a menu plan?

We’re very sure on our final answer, Sir!

How about the blue team? Is this your final answer?
The green team? Do you think this is the right
format in making a menu plan?
Yes, Sir!

H. ABSTRACTION

Very good, class! You did a great job!

Everybody clap your hands to the blue team who

got the highest score! And of course the green and
yellow team for giving their best shots!

I. LECTURE

Have you learned something in our activity? (Everybody we’re clapping their hands.)

On your assignment, you have defined what a meal

is.

So meal is the food eaten on regular occasions.

Yes, Sir!

Now, everybody let’s define Meal planning –

Meal planning is the method of thinking, choosing,
planning, and deciding the series of activities in
meal management.

Discussion

1. Planning meals

*planning meals includes not only the listing of

foods to serve during a meal, known as the menu
but also these activities as well.
(all students reading)

May I ask anyone to read?

1. Planning the food budget
2. Planning of food purchase, choosing the
market, buying and storing supplies, and-
3. Planning for preparing and serving meals.

Thank you.

Now in planning meals, the ff. factors should be

considered:

(A learner stands and is reading what is ask)

“Factors to consider in planning meals”

1. Nutritional adequacy
2. The food budget
3. Differences in food habits
4. Suitability, availability, and quality of the
food to be served.
5. Equipment available for food preparation.

Preparing Meals

“Menu Pattern”

A simple, one-day menu pattern for an average

family is as follows:
The meal pattern is an outline of the menu item
categories.

The sample menu is the extent of selection of dishes

within each category of the meal pattern.

Preparing a simple Family breakfast

“Types of breakfast”

*the type of breakfast that one eats will depend

upon his activities, the hour of the day at which
breakfast is served, and the number of meals of
which he has daily.

1. A very light breakfast usually consists of a

fruit, a beverage, and bread
2. A light breakfast usually includes fruit,
beverage, bread, and a native delicacy

3. A heavy breakfast has a protein dish added

to the light breakfast

4. A very heavy breakfast may have one or

more protein dish added to the heavy
breakfast (provide examples)

What type of breakfast did you have this morning?

J. GENERALIZATION

Therefore, what people eat and the conditions

under which the meals are served should always be
considered to realize the goal of meal management.
To be exact, the goal of meal management is to
provide food that will ensure the physical and
mental growth of a person, his social development
and well-being, with a reasonable expenditure of
available resources.
K. APPLICATION

Now, I want you to prepare a ½ crosswise of a

yellow paper or any scratch paper and make a menu
plan of your respective family. I want it done in 5
minutes. And pass.

L. EVALUATION

I’ll give you stickers if you answer correctly in my

questions we have discussed lately. Are you ready?

1. What is meal planning?

2. Who can give me examples of item found in

menu pattern?

3. Give me an example of the factors that should be

considered in planning meals?

4. What is a meal pattern?

5. What is a sample menu?

6. What is in the sample menu?

7. What are the 4 types of breakfast?

8. This type of breakfast consists of fruit, beverage

and bread.

9. This type of breakfast usually includes fruit,

beverage, bread, and a native delicacy.

10. What have you learned in today’s lesson?
