About A+
Antonio is a winemaker whose experience spans more than 50 years in the winemaking industry, he
has been ranked as one of the most prestigious Argentinean winemakers. He has launched his
winery “Antonio Mas Wines” in 2016, a winery loaded with his typical savoir faire and his own
signature, and connected with only high-quality wines and tuned in with local consumer’s taste.
Antonio was born in Mendoza and he is a pioneer cultivating the passion for winemaking. He holds a
BA in Agronomy from Universidad Nacional de Cuyo, from where its graduates hold specializations in
Winemaking and are authorized to work as winemakers. In Patagonia, he found out that winemaking
was being carried out by immigrants who planted and vinified red and white wine varieties
altogether. He became obsessed on Ampelography and vineyard variety separation which lead him
to discover vineyard varieties planted by immigrants and to vinify them separately. From that
moment onwards, Antonio has devoted his time to study every clone from the varieties he
cultivated and vinified. He, together with his contemporary men, were in charge of transforming
vinification process in the years that followed and they laid the foundations of the current
Patagonian and Argentine terroir. Then, he started working actively in that region with the National
Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA) and pursued a post graduate course on Agricultural
Programming from the FAO. synonyms.

Some years later, he returned to Mendoza in 1992 packed with this knowledge from
his specialization that conducted him to establish the first Argentinean boutique
winery: Finca La Anita. Antonio was inspired by the concept of French Château:
vineyards of great genetic and variety purity, identifying clones of every variety, and
growing grapes and vinify them near the same place where they were planted, from
specific plots, true single vineyards. Antonio had to develop his own, low-scale, top-
notch equipment by himself, since there were no options in the market and he even
had to import barrels by himself since there were no other ways to get them. This
process had to finish in a respect of nature’s balance, which began in the vineyard and
continued in the winery. The result was the first boutique winery in Argentina.
In 2010, he launched Finca Propia to the market. It was the first Argentinean
entrepreneurship that allowed the wine consumer to buy his own vineyard plot and to
produce his own wine lead by Antonio. It has been his challenge to know the wine
consumer of the wines he made, meet him and listen to his needs. Consequently,
Antonio, altogether with his Son Santiago designed products by which the wine
consumer will enjoy of the great moments of viticulture, learn, participate, drink and
share their very own wines.
About A+
Currently, Antonio is completely devoted to his new project, Antonio Mas Wines, from which
everything he has learnt and experienced from any new wine he has elaborated is intended to
materialize by him, lead always by his passion on innovation. Antonio is devoted to exploring the
relationship between vineyards’ environment and their wine. “Altitude or soils are important
environmental factors that define terroir. A Cabernet Sauvgnon that grows surrounded by rose
bushes is very different from a Cabernet Sauvignon that grows within jarilla (Larrea Cuneifolia) or
thyme. Whether the resulting wine could turn into better or worse, its identity would definitely
be different and that difference stands out in the wine, “Antonio affirms.
Antonio Mas has been an important influencer in Argentinean viticulture during the last twenty-
five years. He is known to be a vineyard’s connoisseur and an experienced researcher, which
turned into innovation in the study of every factor that affects wine quality. Innovation, vision for
the future of the industry, terroir’s management and top-notch wines are Mas’s synonyms.
