8 September:
I wrote in the one note, answering the necessary questions such as “Write down three areas
of Drama that you enjoy”, answering performance, atmosphere creation and conveying of a
character. As well, I went through a list of skill boxes that I either ticked or left blank all
concerning different IP types. The final task we had to do was grade which projects we
would like to do in order and I had both performance and a film tied first.
10 October:
I’m not totally sure what I want to do. I think I will have just as fun and possibly success with
either a monologue or film. I have always liked performing and I’m not totally sure if I am
able to be in the film. If I am, I would love to do film without a doubt, although if I can’t be in it
then it makes the decision a lot more difficult.

Had a meeting with Yeomans, here are the notes
Romance film - watch examples of this to understand pacing of films like this
Start storyboard -- not script as you need to submit this first : as well as film schedule
Keep it story based - ensure that these characters have a moment in time

18 October:
Went out location scouting and got footage in the city. Found some interesting locations that
could and most likely will be used such as the bridge near the wax museum, and that ferris
wheel in the same harbour. Unfortunately China town was not as lively as the last time we
went, although it is a monday. When I film my final scenes in Chinatown I will try and
organise to go during the Chinese new year to get the packed, busy and hurried look I am
going for. Huge inspiration from things like that HOW TO BE HAPPY youtube video. The
packed streets of New York or packed markets is what I envision in my head my film to look
like, and I think Chinese New Year Chinatown is my best bet to get that desired look.
21 October:
I have talked about plot, about ideas for character and what needs to be portrayed in the film
in order to get marks.
The current idea is to have a young adult, mid-late 20s, who is saying a monologue of a love
letter he is writing over the course of the film. It is to a lover he has not seen in a while,
missing them and just talking about life without them. There are slices of life interjected into
the film, and finally at the end he is walking with a bouquet of roses with the letter tied to
them. He goes to a graveyard and lays the letter on a grave. The person is dead and hints
from earlier signify.
Although I'm not sure if I want to stick with it. I'm very prone to getting bored of projects and
moving onto something new and fresh. My fear with a film is that the same will happen,
although it doesn't happen with performances, so maybe a monologue is the way to go.
I really enjoyed realism, although my mark was not amazing. 24/30. Fine for my first solo
monologue assessment but I'd like better. Whether I do film or Monologue I'm aiming for
90% or above. If I did end up doing a monologue I want to play a woman. Or play a man
playing a woman as Ms Yeomans suggested. Either way I want to be portrayed as female.
25 October:
Questioning whether I am going to change to monologue but I need to stay with film for this
assessment. It is coming together, doing practice shots is helpful, I have found some
techniques to make the videos look better and just from practice my framing and shot
decisions have gotten better as I have practiced. As well as spending more time with the
phone camera, it is getting easier to create what I am imagining. So there is a noticeable
difference between my shots taken in my room and in the drama rooms in comparison to the
decisions I made on my adventure into the city. I think the longer I spend with this camera,
and the more times I go looking for locations my skill will improve more and more. If this is
the improvement I notice now, I hope I keep progressing like this.
1 November: Finalising ideas and the layout of the film. Having 3 stopping points, for
example the ferris wheel, the music scene and the final graveyard scene seems like a
comfortable way to lay out the film. It changes the pace and keeps it interesting while having
a clear structure which makes it easier for me to be conscious of time constraints and stay
on track. I don’t want to meander through the film so having this sort of set out structure will
be helpful.
6 November:
Practiced filming in my room and getting some shots to try and organise what my room looks
like. I enjoy the idea of an intentional mess. The character isn’t tidy, he’s not organised. HIs
writing of the letter is scrawled and messy so I think that the layout of the room should be the
same. It makes it easy that my desk gets quite busy so filling it with things is quite easy.
Aswell, only lighting the room from ambient lighting, no room lights, will give me the
opportunity to be more in control of the lighting and where it’s directed. Also using my
computer screen as a light source could give some opportunities for coloured lighting and
simply contrasting light to the yellowish hue of my lamps. Especially in the music writing
scene, I like the idea of having instruments laying about. Like this guy has tried to fill his life
with these things, and they’re not quite working out.
