Blessing of Medals of Sts Benedict and Anthony of Padua
Blessing of Medals of Sts Benedict and Anthony of Padua
Blessing of Medals of Sts Benedict and Anthony of Padua
ANTHONY OF PADUA)
According to the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite
Notes: The prayer-blessings are taken from Weller’s Roman Ritual Vols. II (1952) and III
(1946). The Extra-Ordinary form is used by authority of Pope Benedict XVI’s Motu Proprio
Summorum Pontificum (2007) and the Instruction Universae Ecclesiae (2011) no. 35 from the
Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei. The exorcists of AMOE and PACE prefer this form of
blessing in so far as the prayer-blessing for this sacramental invokes Almighty God to protect
the Catholic Faithful from the action and influence of malevolent spirits.
The medallion presented here is the typical or popular version of the St. Benedict Medal,
there are other accepted versions, but the inscription, if they are at all present, follows
exactly the letterings presented here.
The Cross of St. Anthony of Padua also known as St. Anthony’s Brief has these words in Latin.
Versions in other modern languages exist.

A back-to-back medallion with both the prayers of St. Benedict and St. Anthony of Padua
circulate, though not widespread.
The Priest should take careful note of the inscriptions of the medallion. Anything to the
contrary is not to be blessed as some may have been tampered.
V. Our help is in the name of the Lord.
R. Who made heaven and earth.
V. Lord, have mercy on us. Christ, have mercy on us. Lord, have mercy on us.
I purge you medals of evil by God the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven
and earth and of the sea and of all that they contain. Of every power of the
adversary, every cohort of the devil, every attack and appearance of Satan
— get thee out of these medals and fly afar! And may they become for all who
will use them a help for body and soul, in the name of the Father Almighty,
in the name of Jesus + Christ, His Son, our Lord, in the name of the Holy Spirit,
the Paraclete, and in the love of the self-same Lord Jesus Christ, Who shall come
to judge the living and the dead and the world by fire.
R. Amen.
Our Father…

Let us pray.
A
lmighty God, lavish Dispenser of every good, we thy suppliants pray that,
by the intercession of St. Benedict (and/or St. Anthony of Padua), thou
wouldst pour out thy blessing on these sacred medals inscribed with
letters and symbols appointed by thee. Let all who will use them with minds
intent on good works deserve to obtain health of body and spirit, the grace of
making progress in holiness, as well as the indulgences which have been
granted. And may they escape by thy merciful help every onslaught and fraud
of the devil, and finally stand before thee sinless and holy. Through Christ our
Lord.
R. Amen.
If the medals are inscribed in a crucifix, the crucifix is blessed as well according to the prayer
blessing for crucifix.
