Questions about the author:
Answer the following questions
1-When was Charles Dickens born? And where?
He was born in 1812 in Portsmouth, a port in the south of England.
2- What are the similarities between David Copperfield and the author?
Both of them had a miserable childhood. Young David was sent to work in a
warehouse just as Dickens himself was and both of them earned their living by
writing.
3- Why is Charles Dickens the most famous novelist of all time?
Many books have been written about Dicken’s life and his works, and there have
been many film, stage, and musical adaptations of his stories. His characters and
their sayings have become so real to us that they are now a part of our language.

Answer the following questions
1- Where was David Copperfield born? P.1
He was born at Blundrstone in Suffolk in the east of England.
2- Was the relation between David’s father and his aunt good? Why? P.1
No, it wasn’t good. His father’s aunt hadn’t spoken to him since he got married.
She thinks he made a mistake by marrying a very young girl as Clara.
3- why did miss Betsey Trotwood want the baby to be a niece not a nephew?
P.2
She wanted a niece to send her to school, educate her well and prevent her from
making the same mistakes that she made in her life.
4- who is Mr. Murdstone? And how does he look like? P.3Mr. Murdstone is
David’s stepfather who has a black hair, a big black moustache and an unpleasant
smile. He is very fond of his mother, but neither David nor Peggotty likes him.
5- Describe Daniel Peggotty’s house. P.5
It was in the shape of an old ship with doors, windows and chimney. Everything
was clean and tidy and smelt of fish.
6- How is Miss Murdstone look like? P.5
She’s a tall dark lady with a stern frowning face, she looks and sounds very much
like her brother.
7- Talk about the two adopted children by Daniel Peggotty p.4
Daniel Peggotty had adopted two orphans since he’s not married, they lived with
him and called him uncle. Ham Peggotty was a large young man with a gentle
smile and Emily was a beautiful, blue eyed little girl.
8- “I’ve told you before, you’re too weak with him!” comment. P.4
These words were said by Mr. Murdstone to David’s mother Clara when David
came back after their marriage, trying to make Clara treat David in more strong
and firm way.
9- “Perhaps I’ll die before I become a mother” comment. P.2
Clara said this to Miss Betsey, when she visited her, she admitted that she is weak
and looks like a child and might die before she gives birth to her baby, because of
her weakness and sadness.
10- “I’ll beat you like a dog” comment. P.5
These words were said by Mr. Murdstone to David trying to warn him from being
bad and also to inform him that he is not going to be kind like his mother.
