QUARANTINE WORKSHEET

Bitanga, Princess Jovie Mary S.

BSA 2

A random sample of Junior and Senior Business Administration students of a certain university
in Metro Manila were interviewed to determine if there is an association between class level and
attitudes towards fraternities. The results were tabulated below.

Students Favorable Neutral Unfavorable Total

Junior 80 60 70 210
Senior 100 50 70 220
Total 180 110 140 430
Test the hypothesis that there is no significant difference between the students’ class level and
attitude with respect to fraternities using a 5% level of significance.

I. STATEMENT OF THE HYPOTHESIS

H0: There is no significant difference between the students’ class level and attitude with
respect to fraternities.
H1: There is a significant difference between the students’ class level and attitude with
respect to fraternities.

II. STATISTICAL TEST

Use the one-sample X² test

III. LEVEL OF SIGNIFICANCE AND CRITICAL VALUE

α= 0.05
df= ( r −1 )( c−1 )
df= ( 2−1 ) ( 3−1 )
df= 2
CV= X², 0.05, for 2= 5.991

IV. COMPUTATION
a. Expected Frequency
Expected frequency= Observed frequency totals horizontally and vertically
divided by the grand totals
 Junior/Favorable
210× 180
= = 87.91
430
 Junior/Neutral
210× 110
= = 53.72
430
 Junior/Unfavorable
210× 140
= =68.37
430
 Senior/Favorable
220× 180
= =92.09
430
 Senior/Neutral
220× 110
= =56.28
430
 Senior/Unfavorable
220× 140
= =71.63
430

b. X²=
∑ ( O−E ) ²
E

( O−E ) ²
O E ( O−E ) ( O−E ) ²
E
80 87.91 -7.91 62.5681 0.7117
100 92.09 7.91 62.5681 0.6794
60 53.72 6.28 39.4384 0.7341
50 56.28 -6.28 39.4384 0.7008
70 68.37 1.63 2.6569 0.0389
70 71.63 -1.63 2.6569 0.0371
TOTAL 430 430 0 2.902

V. DECISION
The computed value X²=2.902 is smaller than critical value 5.991 therefore the null
hypothesis is accepted. There is no significant difference between the students’ class
level and attitude with respect to fraternities.
