“This date in our history is especially important because the very same type of issues
and threats our founders faced are still around, and in many ways, the attacks are as
bad or worse. At the same time, LULAC is achieving victories in the battles that we
are taking on."
“It has been my honor and privilege to serve the League for more than half a century
and been elected as the first woman to lead LULAC as national president."
“LULAC has been here for nine decades and will be here for generations to come as
long as there are Latinos championing equality and civil rights for our veterans,
children, seniors, and LGBTQ loved ones.”
“LULAC has taught us that courage in our convictions and perseverance of purpose
are among the true traits when we assume great responsibilities. This is what LULAC
has done over 93-years and I am certain will continue to be known for in the decades
to come. I salute LULAC on this auspicious occasion.”
Save the Date for the 25th Annual LULAC National Legislative

our council members. LULAC will also honor illustrious individuals and

Heart Awareness Month
LULAC is hosting a Cafecito with the All of Us Research program in Chicago for
American Heart Month. There are a number of conditions and lifestyle habits that
increase your likelihood of heart disease. This month brings awareness to the
importance of a healthy heart and to encourage healthy habits that help reduce the
risk of heart disease. If you’re near Chicago, join us as we discuss Latino heart health
and the importance of representation in research. LULAC will be hosting two
sessions. The first session will be at 10-11 AM CT and the second session will be at

Empower Through Access
Juntos We Stay Healthy!
LULAC councils have been hosting pop-up clinics and canvassing events
throughout California, Texas, Arizona, and Washington for our Juntos Podemos
partnership. LULAC was called to participate in the Juntos Podemos
partnership, a national campaign led by the U.S. Department of Health and
Human Services (HHS) to bring awareness regarding the COVID-19 vaccines.
Our councils have been sharing and promoting the latest information related to
vaccine confidence and preventive behaviors, and facilitate communication and
dissemination of evidence-based COVID-19 information among key audiences.
Mark your calendar for February 27th – March 5th and be Ready to:
- Like, comment, and share OCW2022 content using #OCW2022 on your social
media pages!
- Take action! There will be several opportunities during Obesity Care Week to
get involved and take action to support OCW2022.
Obesity Care Week is an annual public awareness event supported by over 100
health organizations and leaders in 80 countries around the world. OCW2022
Champions and Partners stand together to acknowledge obesity as a complex,
chronic, recurring disease. Despite extensive research and studies, stigma and
misperceptions continue to negatively shape the way people with obesity are
treated medically and generally within society. OCW2022 will elevate the
discussion on five key issue areas related to obesity: recognition as a disease;
combatting weight bias and stigma; expanding access to care; treating obesity
with science-based treatments; and expanding proven prevention programs. To
learn more about Obesity Care Week and sign up for alerts visit
ObesityCareWeek.org.
