THE CURRENT CONFIGURATION OF ACADEMIC TRAINING IN
ARCHITECTURE IS THE RESULT OF THE REFORM BASED ON THE
ROMANIAN TRADITION IN ARCHITECTURAL EDUCATION,
CONTEMPORARY INFORMATIONS AND INFLUENCES, AS WELL AS ON
THE COLLABORATION WITH THE PROFESSIONAL INTERNATIONAL
BODIES (UIA – UNESCO, EAAE) AND EUROPEAN SCHOOLS OF
ARCHITECTURE 8
Responding to new requirements of a fast
changing world:
- an architectural education responsive to the fast changing values of
our contemporary culture, of our every day life and attitudes;
- an architectural education sensitive to the incredibly fast development
of informational technologies;
- an architectural education attentive to an increasingly unstable labor
market and more and more specialized professional practice;
- an architectural education prepared to face the big variety of totally
new materials and technologies;
- an architectural education aware of the rapid deterioration of the
environment and the imperative necessity for a built environment less
energy consuming and more sustainable;
- an architectural education sensitive to the traditional values and local
identity.
9
New Competences
which would allow the future graduate to confront the
architectural practice in a changing society where common
demands tend to be permanently reformulated

New Teaching Principles

10
to emphasize ways of thinking transcending the
limitation of current technologies, norms, methods,
customs

11
to teach how to think, how to learn, how to deal with
processes and not so much with contents

12
to teach fundamentals, not encyclopedias, to explain
not to expose, to stimulate intuition, to encourage
discovering through investigation and experimentation

13
to stimulate thinking about future by selecting
problems and issues that have within them the ‘seed’
for engaging the future idea

14
to stimulate the student to re-assemble sequential
information in a global building concept

15
to teach ‘sustainability’ as a way of thinking
architecture

16
to privilege process oriented teaching methods

17
to understand architecture as process

to include life cycle assessment within

design process

to consider old buildings as reusable

resources

18
to encourage the knowledge of local constructive
culture and to valorize it in new construction

Specialty Certification
Supplementary competences mentioned in Diploma Supplement

The Departments – coordinating the training activities in specific disciplinary areas

(as are Restoration, Design, Architectural Technology, Urbanism) – encourage the
students to “specialize” their architectural education and thoroughly study
particular aspects of the mentioned areas, by extra curricular optional training;
finally, the same Departments “certify” these supplementary competences of the
graduates in order to be mentioned in the Diploma Supplement.
