➢ FUTURE
Jana and Honza live in Manchester in the UK, but they’re originally from Gdansk in Poland. Next
month, they’re going to get married.
Our families are going to fly here for the ceremony. Honza is going to come to my parents’ flat and
then, all together, we will go to church by car.
Jana is going to wear on a white dress and a veil. They’ll exchange rings, and wear them on their
right hands.
After the ceremony all the guests, the bride and the groom, are going to take a reception and do
the ‘money dance’. Guests will dance around they and put notes on their clothes! It will be fun and
it will help to pay for the wedding.
The bride and the groom are going to eat bread and salt. The bread represents earning enough
money, and the salt recognises that there will be problems in married life, which they’ll face
together.
5. A missing sentence. Read the text and find the right sentence for each paragraph
(A) 3 In the future, fuel prices will increase. Unless we find a solution to this problem, it is
going to become expensive to transport crops from other countries. And if we can’t
import cheap food, we’ll need new ways to produce it locally.
(B) 4 Well, they’ll be in cities. Experts are already working on designs for ‘sky farms’.
They’ll be in tall buildings – like blocks of flats, but with thousands of plants, not people,
in them. They are going to need less space than traditional farms and they won’t be
dependent on the weather. If farmers control the environment, it will be possible to grow
crops all year round.
(C) 2 It will perhaps be possible to use underground spaces which already exist, for
example, old underground stations. If there aren’t any windows, they won’t lose heat,
and plants grow easily with artificial light.
(D) 1 Meat will be very expensive. In the cities of the future, we won’t go out for burgers –
we are going to all be vegetarians! Do you really like this idea?
