5 Of The World’s Tallest

Mountains

1 Mount Everest -
Mount Everest is the tallest mountain in the world and it is located in
the Mahalangur Himal sub-range of the Himalayas . It is labeled as
Earth’s highest mountain above sea level . It has a height of 29,031
feet according to the Chinese and nepali authorities as of 2020. This
mountain is available to climb and it actually has two climbing
routes. However , it is also dangerous climbing this mountain.
Research shows that as of 2019, over 300 people have died on Mount
Everest and some of the bodies still remain on the mountain.

2 K2 -

K2 is the second highest mountain on Earth. It stands about


28,250 feet tall and is located in parts of China and Pakistan. Out
of the world’s highest mountains , K2 is the deadliest . It is
popular for its nickname “ Savage Mountain” after George Bell ,
a climber on the 1953 American expedition, told reporters that the
mountain is a savage mountain that tries to kill you. The
mountain had three nicknames. It is known as The king of
Mountains , The mountaineers mountain , and The mountain of
mountains .
3 Kanchenjunga -

Kanchenjunga is the third highest mountain in the world. It has a


height of 28,169 feet and it is also located in a part of the
Himalayas like Mount Everest. It lies between India and Nepal.
This mountain was mistakenly named the highest mountain in the
world in 1852 until measurements made by the Great
Trigonometrical survey of India showed that Mount Everest was
actually the tallest mountain. Kanchenjunga was named the third
tallest mountain in the world in 1856.

4 Lhotse
Lhotse is the fourth tallest mountain in the world. It stands about
27,940 feet tall and is located in the Himalayas as well, 3
kilometers south of Mount Everest . Mount Lhotse’s South Face is
one of the largest mountain faces in the world. Though many
people have tried , the South Face was only successfully climbed
as late as 1884. Lhotse middle was named the highest unclimbed
point on Earth for a long time until it was climbed on May 23,
2001.

5 Makalu
Makalu is the fifth highest mountain in the world. It is 27,766 feet tall
and is located in the Manhangulat Himalayas just southeast of Mount
Everest. It is an isolated peak and has a shape of a four sided pyramid.
It was first submitted on May 15, 1955 and has only been successfully
climbed by two people Lionel Terray , and Jean Couzy .
