Hi! A pleasant morning to all of you.

We’re going to discuss The

Second Homecoming and the Liga Filipina….
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------

Now, we will be tackling about the Liga Filipina (next)

and I will start by discussing the founding of La Liga Filipina.
(next)

On the evening of Sunday, July 3, 1892, following his morning

interview with Governor General Despujol, Rizal attended a
patriots' meeting at the home of the Chinese-Filipino mestizo,
Doroteo Ongjunco, on Ylaya Street, Tondo, Manila.

As you can see on the side part of the presentation. Those are the
names and professions of people who are present in the said
meeting.

Sa pagpupulong na ‘to, Rizal explained the objectives of the Liga

Filipina which we all know as a civic league of the Filipinos. He
presented the Constitution of the Liga na sinulat niya sa Hong
Kong. The patriots were impressed and enthusiastically supported
the establishment of The Liga. (next)
Maybe you are wondering, what is the objected that they were
talking about. Rizal desired to establish, as well as its role in the
people's socioeconomic lives. Nabuo ang samahang ito sa layon
nilang mawakasan ang pang-aaping nararanasan nilang mga
Pilipino sa kamay ng mga Kastilang mananakop. At the same time,
Rizal presented and discussed the Liga's Constitution.

But before we discuss the constitution, here’s the officers of the

new league. Ambrosio Salvador, the president of la Liga Filipina,
he is gobernadorcillo of quiapo and mason; Deodato Arellano as a
secretary; Bonifacio Arevalo is the elected treasurer; and Agustin
de la Rosa will be the fiscal. (next)
Now, let’s proceed to constitution of the Liga Filipina. The picture
on the side represents the cover page of the constitution. Rizal used
abbreviations para hindi paghinalaan because La Liga Filipina was
a secret organization. (next)

mga sumusunod;
First, to unite the whole archipelago into one compact and
homogenous body.
Second, mutual protection in every want and necessity.
katarungan.
Fourth, encouragement of education, agriculture, and
commerce.
Last, study and application of reforms. (next)

Mayroong motto ang Liga Filipina:

Unus Instar Omnium or One Like All. Kung isasalin sa filipino,
Bawat Isa’y Katulad ng Lahat. It involved the people directly in
the reform movement, through mutual aid, self-help, and setting up
of cooperatives. It Filipinos basic services such as education,
health, legal aid, livelihood, financial support, and scholarship
grants. It was supported by leaders like Andres Bonifacio and
Marcelo H. del Pi lar. (next)

The duties of the Liga members are as follows:

1. obey the orders of the Supreme Council
2. tumulong sa pangangalap ng mga bagong miyembro
3. to keep in strictest secrecy the decisions of the Liga
authorities
4. to have a symbolic name which he cannot change until he
becomes president of his council
Liga
6. to behave well as befits a good Filipino
7. to help fellow members in all ways.
liga, which had jurisdiction over the entire country. It was made up
of a president, a secretary, a treasurer, and a fiscal officer. Kada
probisya may tinatawag na Provincial Council, and every town had
a Popular Council.

Kahit sinong Pilipino ay pwedeng sumali sa Samahan as long as

they are concerned about the welfare of their country. Every
member pays a two-peso entrance fee at mayroon din silang
monthly due na nagkakahalagang ten centavos. (next)

Let’s proceed to the time where Rizal arrested and jailed in Fort
Santiago. (next)

Rizal returned to Malacañan Palace on Wednesday, July 6, to

continue his series of interviews with the governor general.

So habang ini-interview siya, Governor General Despujol

unexpectedly showed him some printed leaflets that were allegedly
discovered in Lucia's pillow cases.

and were written by Fr. Jacinto and printed in Manila by the
Imprenta de los Amigos del Pais. They were a satire on the
wealthy Dominican friars who amassed vast fortunes despite their
monastic vow of poverty.

Rizal strongly denied having those leaflets in his or Lucia's

luggage, which had been thoroughly searched by customs officials
upon their arrival from Hong Kong, who found nothing.

investigation in accordance with due process of law, dinakip pa rin
Despujol, Governor General Despujol's nephew and aide. (next)
As he described in his diary, as you can see in his statement, he
was kept incommunicado at Fort Santiago.

The following day, July 7, the Gaceta de Manila published the

maraming Pilipino, particularly members of the newly formed Liga
Filipina.
