6.1 Service
Change the activated carbon every 8000 hours
The pressure drop of the filter will not increase during its lifetime. Nevertheless, the
activated carbon must be changed earlier at the first signs of oil vapor or odor.
When the filter has to process air with a temperature higher than the reference temperature, the
filter’s lifetime will be reduced considerably. It is then advisable to oversize the filter.
The air flow of the filter is from the top to the bottom of the filter.
When the oil indicator shows a fast increase of oil content in the air, the activated carbon and the
indicator tube should be replaced, and the preceding oil coalescence filter elements should be
serviced.
6.2 Procedure
Warnings
Safety glasses, gloves and a dust mask must be worn during the emptying procedure as
dust may be produced.
When replacing activated carbon, make sure that the activated carbon is disposed of
according to the local regulations.
Procedure
1. Stop the air flow through the filter.
2. Isolate the filter from the air net by closing the air inlet and outlet valves.
3. Depressurize the vessel slowly.
4. Install a suitable collector underneath the activated carbon removal plug for emptying.
5. Remove the activated carbon removal plug and let the activated carbon flow into the
collector.

Instruction book
A vacuum cleaner may be used to speed up the process and to control dust emission.
Safety glasses, gloves and a dust mask must be worn during the filling procedure as
dust may be produced.
Do NOT overfill the filter.
When replacing activated carbon, make sure that the activated carbon is disposed of
according to the local regulations.
When replacing the activated carbon, never use an ejector or similar equipment as this
might shatter the granular. The granular must be gravity-fed into the filter.
After replacing the filter medium, the amount of dust released can increase. Therefore, it
is recommended to replace the dust filter downstream of the filter one week after
replacing the activated carbon.
After replacing the activated carbon, flush the filter to remove residual moisture until the
required dew point is reached.
Procedure
1. Once the vessels are empty, refit the activated carbon removal plug.
2. Open the activated carbon filling plugs.
3. Fit a large funnel to the filling hole of the filter vessel; the size of the narrow part should be
35-40 mm (1.4 - 1.6 in).
4. Gently pour the correct amount of activated carbon into the vessel. The activated carbon
must stay below the level of the top strainer.
Use a vacuum cleaner to control dust escaping from the filling hole.
5. Refit the activated carbon filling plug. The filter is now ready to be started.
6. After replacing the activated carbon, the amount of dust released can increase. Therefore, it
is recommended to replace the dust filter downstream of the QDT one week after replacing
the activated carbon.
