Commercial equipment- The usage of solar energy has made things easy for households only
but commercial purpose also. Solar rooftop is another big advancement in the era of solar
energy. it is widely seen that with the advancement of solar energy many businesses and
organizations have switched to solar energy. But due to the presence of a grid system, they are
facing issues like paying large electricity bills, day and night work. But some of them are not
aware of the fact that by using solar energy properly one can save a lot of money and use it for
their other needs. So, what is a solar rooftop. Solar rooftops are solar panels that are placed on
the top of roofs of your institutional, commercial or residential buildings by capturing the light
energy emitted by the sun which runs the entire workings of your organization. This system is
environment friendly keeping the environment safe and clean. Commercial buildings require
solar rooftops for various reasons.

Renewable energy sector

The Indian renewable energy sector is the fourth most attractive renewable energy market in the
world1. India was ranked fifth in wind power, fifth in solar power, and fourth in renewable
power installed capacity, as of 2019.

Installed renewable power generation capacity has gained pace over the past few years, posting a
CAGR of 17.33% between FY16-20. With the increased support of the Government and
improved economics, the sector has become attractive from an investor's perspective. As India
looks to meet its energy demand on its own, which is expected to reach 15,820 TWh by 2040,
renewable energy is set to play an important role. The government is aiming to achieve 227 GW
of renewable energy capacity (including 114 GW of solar capacity addition and 67 GW of wind
power capacity) by 2022, more than its 175 GW target as per the Paris Agreement. The
government plans to establish a renewable energy capacity of 523 GW (including 73 GW from
Hydro) by 2030.

 Solar Manufacturing Sector

Solar manufacturing refers to the fabrication and assembly of materials across the solar value
chain, the most obvious being solar photovoltaic (PV) panels, which include many
subcomponents like wafers, cells, glass, back sheets, and frames. Aside from panels, many
different manufactured products are required for solar energy systems, including inverters,
wiring, combiner boxes, and racking and tracking structures—and that’s just for PV.
Concentrating solar-thermal power (CSP) systems require the manufacturing of heliostats,
receivers, and thermal storage systems.

Solar power in India is a fast-developing industry as part of renewable energy in India. The
country's solar installed capacity was 40.09 GW as of 31 March 2021.

The Indian government had an initial target of 20 GW capacity for 2022, which was achieved
four years ahead of schedule. In 2015 the target was raised to 100 GW of solar capacity
(including 40 GW from rooftop solar) by 2022, targeting an investment of US$100 billion. India
has established nearly 42 solar parks to make land available to the promoters of solar plants. The
Ministry of New and Renewable Energy had stated that a further 36.03 GW (as of January 31,
2021) of solar projects are under various stages of implementation and 23.87 GW are in the
tendering process.

Rooftop solar power accounts for 2.1 GW, of which 70% is industrial or commercial. In addition
to its large-scale grid-connected solar photovoltaic (PV) initiative, India is developing off-grid
solar power for local energy needs. Solar products have increasingly helped to meet rural needs;
by the end of 2015, just under one million solar lanterns were sold in the country, reducing the
need for kerosene. That year, 118,700 solar home lighting systems were installed and 46,655
solar street lighting installations were provided under a national program; just over 1.4 million
solar cookers were distributed in India.

 Solar thermal power

The installed capacity of commercial solar thermal power plants (non-storage type) in India is
227.5 MW with 50 MW in Andhra Pradesh and 177.5 MW in Rajasthan. The existing solar
thermal power plants (non-storage type) in India, which are generating costly intermittent power
daily, can be converted into storage type solar thermal plants to generate 3 to 4 times more
baseload power at a cheaper cost and not depend on government subsidies. In March 2020, SECI
called for 5000 MW tenders which can be a combination of solar PV with battery storage, solar
thermal with thermal energy storage (including biomass firing as supplementary fuel), and coal-
based power (minimum 51% from renewable sources) to supply around the clock power at
minimum 80% yearly availability.
