CENTRAL OILER KVL 10

1. GENERAL
The central--oiler has as a duty to take care of the lubrication of the rock drills shank. The
lubricating oil will be tranfered into the rock drill mixed into pressurized air. Pressurization
of the air can be made with jumbos own compressor or air can be taken of some outsider
air circuit.
For the rock drill is shank lubrication most important, so the air pressure will be watched
with a pressure switch. If the pressure drops into a setted value, wich also means possible
disturbance in shank lubrication, breaks the earlier mentioned pressure switch the current
of the powerpacks, and naturally makes that way drilling impossible without repairing the
system.
As mentioned, is a properly working shank lubrication most important for the rock drill.
A insufficient lubrication may be caused by three separate reasons:
-- malfunction in the air circuit. Against this has been prepared with a pressure
switch. The automatics prevent drilling in case of a low air pressure.
There is anyway an exeption. That is the hose damage between the central oiler and the
rock drill, in which case may the lubrication be disturbed also during drilling, without any
reaction by the automatic controls.
-- lack or a wrong quality of oil. Oil level will cause no problems, if the oiler will refilled
reqularelly and the proportion of oil/air is adjusted correctly. In other words this is,
that the tank cannot become empty during one workshift, if the oil/air--mixture is
correct (0,2 l/h oil for every rock drill). The viscosity of oil is very much involwed
when talking about adjusting the right oil/air--mixture. Therefore must always be
used oil qualities mentioned in the ”Lubricant recommendation”.
-- water in the oiler tank. Water may have got in to the tank from the air circuit or by
condensation.
Water draining is recommended todo before every workshift.

CAUTION

2. OILER IN THE PRESSURE CIRCUIT

The oiler has been placed in the pressure circuit right before the rock drill. This is very
naturall because only the rock drill needs its air mixed with oil. From the rock drill can the
air be arranged to flow freely, or it can be directed to lubricate even the chain feed.

3. CENTRAL OILER IN OPERATION

The pressurized, oil mixed air, does not only lubricate the shank, it also prevents waters
and dirts enter into the rock drill. The incoming airflow will be devided in the distributor
(7) into separate outgoinglines and into the tank (1). The flowing speed of the air rises
in the distributor and therefore the pressure falls. Now, because of the higher pressure
in the tank than in the distributor, pushes the air some oil through the regulating valve (9),
and oil mixes into the passgoing air. The quantity of oil mixing in the air can be adjusted
by turning the knob of the adjusting valve. During the adjusting must the valve be coupeled
off of the distributor. That’s because only then is possible to estimate, how much oil comes
through the valve.

5. USE INSTRUCTIONS
5.1. Refilling the oiler tank
High pressure air injection hazard. Can cause severe injury. Relieve
pressure before removing filler plug or fittings.

WARNING

-- Stop the compressor and wait, untill the pressure gauge indicater 0 bar. Then
you can open the refill plug. Lift up the strainer (right under the refill plug) and clean
it.
-- Place the strainer back and fill the tank.
-- Oil level can be checked with the dip stick.
Oil level may never fall under the mark ”MIN”. It is anyway most
recommended to refill the tank before every workshift. Water draining is
recommended to do at the same time.
CAUTION

It is also important to watch, that there goes a suitable multitude of oil to

every rock drill. If oil level in the tank does not fall at all, must the reason
be cleared at once.
CAUTION

5.2. Adjusting the mixture of oil/air

-- unfasten the regulating valve from the distributor.
-- start the compressor and check the pressure effecting in the oiler tank.
-- open the regulating valve so, that oil flows through it about 0,2 l/h. This means
about 30 drops pro minute.
-- watch the flow long enough, so that oilflow has time to settle.
-- when adjusting is done, can the lock nut be screwed on. Fasten the regulating
valve and check that the joint does not leak after starting the compressor again.

Refill the oiler tank by every workshift.

CAUTION

Check always, that the oil type you use for refilling is suitable for existing
drilling circumstances (See ”Lubricant recommendation”). Check the
type and also the viscosity.
CAUTION

Take care of the right multitude of oil going to the rock drill. During drilling
check through the inspection glass, that lubrication works.

CAUTION

If the oil level does not fall at all during the drilling, the reason must be
cleared immediately.

CAUTION

Reason may be:

-- the compressor oil separation does not work
-- the regulating valve is wrong adjusted
-- air line is stucked, and therefore has the oil no ”transporter”.
-- oil viscosity is too high for existing circumstances. In other words: oil is too stiff.
