2. PREPARING FOR FAILURE DIAGNOSIS - 25
When there is something wrong with the engine, it is important to understand the situation, diagnose its cause, and
fix the error.
1.ln order to figure out the probable cause at occurrence, gather information for failure diagnosis.
1- Check the accurate symptoms of the failure.
2- Check the conditions before and after the failure.
3- Check the error code (DTC code).
4- Check the engine model and serial number.
5- Check the ECU model and serial number.
6- Check the configuration of VC1 0 engine control system. (Configurations differ depending on the options
applied.)
7- Check the history of the engine (Operating hours, repair, inspection, and maintenance service histories).
8- Check the history for the same error. If there is any, check its solution.
2. For failure diagnosis, you will need a special service tool: SA-D (SMARTASSIST-Direct).
Make sure you have the newest version of the software installed.
3. Prepare a tester to check the electric system.

4. Check the short circuit of the engine harness.
1- Remove the sensor and the engine ECU from the engine harness.
2- Measure the resistance of the engine harness (Between engine ECU terminals). (Refer to charts and drawings)
3-lf the resistance value is positive, the harness is short circuit. Replace the engine harness.

3. Test operate to see if the failure is still regenerated. If the failure does not regenerate, the backup panel is nor-
mal.
4. Check the appearance of the VC1 0 harness, and replace if there is anything wrong with it.
5. Check the open circuit of the VC1 0 harness.
1- Remove the VC1 0 harness from the engine harness.
2- Turn the sub throttle knob a little to measure the resistance of the VC1 0 harness (between the terminals on
the VC1 0 side). (Refer to charts and drawings)
3-lf the resistance value exceeds the specified range (O.L.), the harness is open circuit. The harness is short
circuit if it is 0 Q.
Replace the VC1 0 harness.
