Q16. a) Ashok wanted his house to be white washed. He bought 10 kg quick lime from
market and dissolved in 30 litres of water. On adding lime to water he noticed that bubbles
were produced and the solution becomes hot. Write the balanced chemical equation for the
reaction.

b) A solution of lead nitrate when mixed with potassium iodide, an insoluble substance is
formed. Name the precipitate formed. Write the balanced chemical equation for the above
change.

c) Show the formation of sodium oxide by the transfer of electrons between the
combining atoms.

d) Ionic compounds do not conduct electricity in the solid state but do so


when in molten state. Give reasons.
