To,

Bain and Company

Sir/Madam,

I, Shlok Dhurjad, a final year undergraduate student at IITB in the engineering physics department, would like
to express my interest in joining Bain and Company as an associate
consultant.

My decision to pursue management consulting as a career after graduation was based on three factors that I
have realized about myself over the years: the desire to keep learning every day, curiosity about the working
of large-scale businesses and industries, and an interest in international exposure. After quick research about
career options that value these traits, it was evident to me that management consulting would be a good fit for
me. Not only this, but in my career research I also found out that a management consultant usually deals with
a varied portfolio of industries and has frequent interactions with the top-level administration. Such a job
would allow me to expand my knowledge and sharpen my interpersonal skills all without the fear of limiting
my expertise to a niche, which would most probably be the case if I pursued research in physics (the default
option for engineering physics students).

My internship experience as a business analyst at Deloitte India LLP was in line with my aim of pursuing
consulting as a full-time career upon graduation and gave me a taste of what it will be like. It tested my
time-management skills and required me to adapt to the steep learning curve involved in both the projects I
worked on. The fact that I got to work on two completely different projects, one involving revenue
management of a large FMCG and another dealing with water distribution for local bodies further affirmed
my conviction that there is variety in the life of a consultant and that was what I wanted.

Even my journey at IITB reflects my need to experience a diverse range of responsibilities. I have participated
in cultural and sports activities, I have also been a part of the hostel affairs committee and academic
mentorship program. My most fulfilling and enriching experience, however, has been with the IITB racing
team which I have been a part of since my freshman year. I was involved in the technical development team in
the first three years and presently serve as the finance and operations lead. As a part of 9 member core team
leading the contingent of more than 100 passionate engineers has provided me with invaluable experience in
leadership and teamwork which I am sure will help me in this career. We have also secured victory in
international competitions despite facing pandemic fueled adversities, proving our mettle and bringing glory
for the institute and team. As an individual, I led a team of 3 in preparing a comprehensive ‘procurement
report’ which was awarded the first prize at the FSEV ‘21 event. I was also a part of the cost report team
where we presented our document to British judges in FSUK ‘21, securing the 10th position out of 65 teams.

“Those who challenge themselves to be exceptional should champion that spirit in others”
This statement in the belief section on the Bain & Co website attracted me to the organization. It reinforced
my belief that joining the firm would lead to personal growth as well as allow me to help others be their best
self. The global training program(ACT) is icing on the cake as it perfectly completes all three of my initial
requirements that I used in career research. Hence, I look forward to being part of the Bain and Company
team.

Thank you for considering my application.

Sincerely,
Shlok Dhurjad
