Organizing Energy
Audit & Analysis
A. Prepare Scope of Energy audit and analysis B. Study Resources requirement

1. Energy Manager has to organize the meeting with head Resources involve in conducting an energy audit;
EACs to gather the requirement.
1. Metering equipment
2. Prepare scope of energy audit and analysis, at least ✓ Organization level, to collect energy
consists of; consumption data & factors related to energy
✓ Type of collected data using component
✓ Number of collected data ✓ EAC level, to collect amount of energy
✓ Area or Equipment that need to be audited consumption, controlled parameter, input-output
✓ Audit time frame
✓ Expected analysis result 2. Manpower

3. Budget (in case there are no adequate - Metering

equipment & Manpower)

C. Select audit method D. Assign Responsible person or select external expert

1. Internal Audit, conducted by internal staff 1. If select internal audit method, then energy manager
✓ will get effective result only if the organization has and head of EAC have to allocate the internal staff to
adequate metering equipment and capable staff take care of the energy audit work.

2. External Audit, conducted by external experts 2. If select external audit, then energy manager has to
look for an external expert to conduct the energy audit.
• Check the credentials of the external expert
• Ask for CV’s
• Ask for the working record related to energy audit
and analysis
• Request for a full proposal, including technical and
financial proposal

Organizing Energy
Audit & Analysis
E. Conduct Energy Audit F. Get Energy Audit and Analysis Result

1. Prepare the work schedule, concerning all The results cover;

related factors including productivity, 1. Collected data : related to energy consumption for each area or
production time, condition of the machine, machine as required in the scope of works
etc.
2. Analysis result of collected data : should cover;
2. Select the appropriate timing and method to • Organization level :
collect the data : concerning the accuracy ✓ overall energy consumption performance
and precision of the collected data so that it ✓ overall energy conservation activities
will reflect the energy consumption of the • EAC level;
organization ✓ energy consumption performance of each EAC
✓ energy conservation activities of each EAC
• Equipment level;
✓ equipment efficiency or performance

3. Proposed energy conservation measures,

4. Benchmarking
• The analysis result should illustrate the comparison of current
status with;
✓ Industry best practice
✓ Related laws and regulations
✓ Previous information within the organization (such as past
energy audits)
✓ Guideline of energy consumption for industry
✓ Specification of the machine or equipment

54
Organizing Energy
Audit & Analysis
• The Energy Management committee and head of EAC
have to bring the energy audit and analysis result to
implement to get the real energy saving.

• Energy target & plan has to be formulated and

implemented

55
How to set Energy Target & Plan (ET&P)
How to formulate energy target and plan?
• Set up the saving target
• Select and prioritize the Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs)
• Set up the implementation plan

Setup the saving target : Whose Responsibilities?

• Organization level
✓ EM Committee has to analyze the result from energy audit and set or
revised energy saving target for the organization
• EAC Level
✓ Head of EAC has to set the saving target for each machine/equipment in
order to be able to set the saving target for EAC

57
How to set Energy Target & Plan (ET&P)
How to formulate energy target and plan?

• Select and prioritize the Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs)
• Set up the implementation plan

Setup the saving target : Whose Responsibilities?

• Organization level
✓ EM Committee has to analyze the result from energy audit and set or
revised energy saving target for the organization
• EAC Level
✓ Head of EAC has to set the saving target for each machine/equipment in
order to be able to set the saving target for EAC

Setup the saving target : Method to set the saving target;

• Decide target without criteria, “executive decision”
• Set up target against external information, “next best value from
benchmarking”
• Set up target against internal information, “control-ability”

How to set Energy Target & Plan (ET&P)

Select and prioritize the Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs)

1. Factors to be considered
✓ Company policy and energy policy
✓ Energy saving criteria
✓ Investment criteria
✓ Amount of energy saving
✓ Improvement budget of each ECM
✓ Human resource to implement the measures
✓ Operation and/or production plan

2. Prioritize the selected measures Hint:-

✓ No investment measures ❖ No or low investment measures can be
✓ Medium investment measures implemented immediately follow with medium and
✓ Large investment measures large investment measures
❖ However, order of implementation can be different
for each organization depend on resource and
budget

39
How to set Energy Target & Plan (ET&P)

Set up the implementation plan

• EM committee has to set up the implementation plan for ECMs and

integrate with other activities in the organization

• The most importance factor is “Human Resource”, set up “Sustainable

Improvement Team (SIT)”

• Implementation plan has to comply with the energy saving target and
investment plan of the organization
