The document outlines specifications for different types and grades of hollow brick, including requirements for their physical properties, textures, and allowable chips/flaws.

There are two grades - Grade SW for high frost resistance and Grade MW for moderate frost resistance. There are also four types - HBS, HBX, HBA, and HBB - with different dimensional tolerances and textures specified for each.

Type HBS and HBX have smooth or rough texture options, with limits placed on the percentage and size of chips allowed. Type HBA and HBB must meet designated samples or be within restrictions of Type HBS.

Standard Specification for

Hollow Brick (Hollow Masonry Units Made From Clay or
Shale)1
This standard is issued under the fixed designation C 652; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year of
original adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. A
superscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.

This standard has been approved for use by agencies of the Department of Defense.
