Lesson Plan

Standards:
RF.K.Ic Understand that words are separated by space in print.
CC.K.Rfou.1.d Students will Identify letters.
CC.K.Rfou.3.b Associate Short sounds with vowels.
CC.K.Rfou.3.c Students will Read high frequency Words.

Materials:
Students and Ms. Ademe will use videos to determine how to further understand the task. Video will also
introduce how a sentence should look.

Ms. Ademe will provide popsicle sticks for the whole class labeled with their name for them to keep all
year long.

Students will demonstrate how to write sentences in his/her journal. Using his/her sight words.

Students will use White boards and dry erase markers to write the letter of the week. This week's letter
will be “O”.

Teacher will use self-stick notes.

Teacher will use the book “Alphachant'' by Lada Kratky. To identify capital and lowercase O.

Students will use reading books.

Objectives:
Students will be able to write a sentence using the help of a popsicle stick to space and make a sentence
the correct way. Taking the appropriate space between words in a sentence. Students will be able to
identify the letter O. Students will be able to write the letter O uppercase and lowercase, and also identify
words that start with O. Students will be able to identify the sound of O.

Background Knowledge:
Using the videos today we will start by demonstrating to students what a complete sentence is.
Ms. Ademe will ask questions like;
Why do we use space between our words in a sentence?
What do you think will help you space your letters?

Starting off our lesson on the letter O, Ms.Ademe will show students the new letter we are learning.

Describe a word that we use with the letter O

Teachers will ask students if they know the sound of the letter O.

Showing students the videos will help implement the letter O.

1 A. Direct Instruction:

In today's lesson students and Ms.Ademe will start by watching our video on “ Spacing between words”
on the floor mat.

Ms.Ademe hands out a popsicle stick to all students.

Ms.Ademe will ask kids to return to their chairs to open up journals.

Students walk to their desk, open journals and get a pencil.

Teacher sits at her elmo to assemble sentences for students. Using their sticks to space sentences correctly.

Once class is ready the teacher will start with basics to check who may need help.

1 B. Student Practice:

First sentence to copy into their journal is: My name is blank.

Ms.Ademe will give everyone 3 minutes to copy and also walk around to check students' work.

Second sentence to write in their journal is: The dog ran.

Ms. Ademe walks around for a second time. (Maya needs help on getting maghrib on
her pencils, Lilly needs to use her popsicle stick to space letters.)

Ms. Ademe gives students the last sentence to practice for the day.

Last sentence: I see the cat.


A last walk around to wrap up our assignment and see if they understood how to use their sticks
for spacing and to determine if it worked. (Lilly may need extra time during
stations on spacing)

2 A. Direct Instruction:

For our second lesson we will start by identifying and isolating middle sounds.

Ms.Ademe will introduce the letter O to the class.

Class will be asked to bring white boards to the floor with a marker to practice writing lowercase
and uppercase letters O.

Ms.Ademe will pause and play the video to give them time to practice writing the letter.

As class will write Ms.Ademe will examine each students white boards.

Ms. Ademe will also read out loud with class Alphachant by Lada Kratky.

Ms.Ademe will have children find all of the O’s in the book on each page.

2 B. Student Practice:

Ms.Ademe: Good Afternoon class, today we are going to learn how to write the letter O.

Students: O is our new letter.

Ms.Ademe: Let's Start off by reading our book “Alphachant Oo by Lada Kratky”, what does she
do?

Students: Write the words!

Ms.Ademe: What do we call someone that writes the words?

Students: The author!


Closure:
Ms.Ademe will then read out loud the book and identify capital and lowercase Oo.
This is capital O. Capital O is big. This is lowercase o. It is smaller than capital O.

Students: Listen to the book as the teacher points to each word as she reads aloud.

Ms.Ademe rereads the book and has children chant along. Pauses after every line and asks
children to repeat the words that begin with /o/.

Together, chant each word along with the letter: O,O, otter beings with the letter o.

Ms.Ademe then will play a youtube video to show children how to write lowercase and
uppercase O.

Ms.Ademe: Students please grab your write boards and a marker to practice writing the letter as
we watch a helpful video.

Students: Get Materials to continue this lesson. Return to the floor.

Ms.Ademe will play and pause the video as it shows them to write lowercase and uppercase
letters O. Teacher will walk around to see who gets it down.

Students: Practice writing the letter O


(Grayson needs help on lowercase O’s)

Ms.Ademe: Listen class it time to return to our desk and do Practice Masters.

Students: Return to desk to work on reading books to do assignment Sound for O.

Students will be able to determine the words: Otter, Octopus,Ostrich, and Ox.

Ms.Ademe: Once you have completed copying all the words, wrap up all your belongings.

Students: Clean up!

Ms.Adme: As today's ticket out the door we will show how to sound out the letter O.

Students will give me the sound a letter O makes and give me a word that starts with O.
Students: Say out loud the sound letter O makes, and give an example of a word that starts with
o.

Ms.Ademe dismisses class one by one as their parents or guardians walk up.
