POSSIBLE QUESTIONS:
1. What is your thesis all about?
The study is all about the effect of alfresco dining to consumer’s preferences in
Valenzuela City during the COVID-19 pandemic.
2. What prompted you to propose this study?
Because this study is timely and it’s relevant with the current situation. Also, it is in line
with our course and we want to feed our curiosity about the current state of our industry in
terms of outdoor dining.
3. What’s your SOP?
● demo profile: age & income ( age - bc it is suitable to the study since there
are age restrictions during the pandemic; income - to identify who is more
likely to engage in alfresco dining)
● factors affecting consumer’s preferences when engaging to alfresco dining (to
know what are the aspects affecting consumer’s preferences)
● significant difference in effect of alfresco when age and income are
considered? (to determine if there is actually a difference between the
variables)
4. Why did you choose a conceptual framework?
because since there are already existing studies related to this, the researchers only
aim to observe the variables and to not manipulate them.
5. What legal bases do you have? (RRL)
we have collected and reviewed several existing studies and literatures that can
support this study such as:
● alfresco dining
Al fresco dining is not new, but it has been a hit in this era because of the Covid-19
pandemic. It seems like outdoor dining is one of the existing trends that gave a new
chance for numerous businesses to reinvent themselves (Gene Marks, 2021).
● consumer pref
Zhong, Oh, and Moon study of "What Can Drive Consumers' Dining-Out Behavior
in China and Korea during the COVID-19" (2021), subjective norms positively
influenced consumers' intention towards dining out and consumers' intentions
towards dining out were directly affected by perceived psychological risk, but not
perceived physical risk. Furthermore, restaurants' preventive measures did not
significantly affect consumers’ preference for dining out, but restaurants'
precautionary measures influenced perceived physical risk.
● local outdoor dining
Tariga, J. N., Nolasco, D. P., & Barayuga, S. J. R. study of "Food consumption
habits of consumers in the Philippines: Changes amidst the pandemic" (2021)In
their survey, 41% said that they dine out once a month, and the remaining stated
that they cook food at home daily. 53% of the respondents are undecided whether
they will dine out or not after the pandemic. 40% responded that they would dine
outdoors once the pandemic was over. The respondents found three significant
factors when dining out: the taste, sanitary practice of the food establishment, and
lastly, the health benefits and novelty with both.

● IATF
The IATF has also asked and appealed to establishments to free up space for
outdoor activities and to build urban green areas. They have asked the business
owners to consider developing and converting outdoor spaces into temporary
outdoor weekend markets and dining spaces ((Manila Bulletin, 2021).
6. What are the variables in your study? (IND Cause & DP Effect)
The independent variables of this study are the demo prof, factors affecting
consumer preferences, covid-19. While the dependent variable is the effect of alfresco
dining to consumer preferences.
7. What research method will you use?
the study will make use of a quantitative approach since they will use a correlational
design which means that they will make use of a survey and the data will only be observed
and not manipulated.
8. Who will be the respondents?
the respondents will be consumers and residents of valenzuela city, aging from 18-65
years old.
9. What sampling method will you use?
the research will make use of a purposive non-random sampling method.
Purposive - bc the researchers will select specific respondents specifically the
consumers in val city, they are the ones suitable for the study
10. How will you gather data?
the researchers will make use of a survey questionnaire 5 point likert scale adapted
from the study of Zhong, Oh and Moon entitled “What Can Drive Consumers’ Dining-Out
Behavior in China and Korea during the COVID-19 Pandemic?”
● first set - demographic profile
● second set - factors that affect consumers’ preferences
11. How will you measure the data gathered?
the researchers will make use of frequency, mean, SD, and ANOVA
● Frequency - first to determine the total percentage of the demo prof which are the
age and income of the respondents.
● Mean - measure the total average of each factor affecting the consumer’s food
consumption preferences when engaging in al fresco dining.
● SD - to measure the disbursement or the spread out of the data
● ANOVA - determine the significant difference in the effects in consumer’s food
consumption preferences in al fresco dining when age and income are considered.

12. Do you think your proposed study is timely and useful? (SOS)
yes it is useful and the relevance of this study will bring awareness to resto owners,
local consumers, and future researchers if ever a pandemic occurs again in the future.
