Statement of Purpose
I am Amanpreet Kaur from Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India. I come from a humble family who always
taught me that there are no shortcuts to success. I am always being motivated from parents who lead me to
right path of hard work, dedication and determination. I constantly worked to achieve the best in my
academics. After completing my secondary education, I developed interest in accounting and found it very
fascinating since Accountants are respected business professionals, and accounting is known to be one of
the most trust-worthy professions. I can operate my own business and provide financial and tax related
services to organizations and individual clients. Thus, I further developed interest in becoming a Chartered
Accountant.
AQF - The Australian qualification framework is the policy to determine the quality of higher education.
ESOS -Education Services for Overseas Students act, national code of practice for providers of education
and training to overseas students, commonwealth Register of institutions and courses for overseas students.
These rules and systems make Australia stand out from the rest of the world while considering the country
and environment where we study. The learning and study process happens at a multicultural and global
level, which will enable me to work in any part of the world including my home country on the completion
of my studies. Also, Australian educational institutions deliver practical and career-oriented education
training so graduates could meet job requirements. Living and interacting in a multicultural society and
community will help me learn about them closely.
Reason to choose Master of Professional Accounting: Along with pursuing Bachelor degree I started
doing Chartered Accountancy course in India and qualified Common Proficiency Test in year 2012. Later I
also qualified Integrated Professional Competence Course in the year 2014 and started with Articleship
training required for giving Final examination. I completed my training in the year 2018. I kept working
with Chartered Accountants later as well since I didn’t want to miss any opportunity to learn and keep
myself updated with latest Industry standards and norms. I got married in January, 2019 after which I
couldn’t give the required attention towards my CA course and didn’t give further exams. Now again I
want to start with my career. My husband is encouraging me to go for CA in abroad which could give me a
greater perspective and huge growth in my career with international recognition.
Having a degree in commerce and being a Chartered Accountant student I have increased my knowledge in
the field of Accounting and Finance but I need to gain professional skills to be sound for my professional
career. This course will be covering the principles, tools and techniques of accounting and finance, as well
as how to apply them in real work situations. This program will help me to develop the technical and
conceptual skills needed to become an accountant and will develop my ability to analyse, critique and
synthesise various accounting and related principles, methods and techniques. This program will also
provide academic support to prepare for CPA Australia's CPA Program and ACCA's professional level
examinations. This will help me prepare for a career in top accounting and finance firms including Big4s
and major international banks. The course also provides professional accreditations with maximum
exemptions and collaborates with Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Chartered
Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) and CPA Australia.
I gained practical knowledge from working with professionals but I have realised that attaining a
professional degree and gaining knowledge & skills from a reputed University could exponentially increase
worth in terms of my skills and expertise. Nowadays the employers in job market are looking for skilled
employees along with having educational qualification since practical knowledge and degree hold equal
importance. This area of study would prepare me to enter accounting and finance sector with all necessary
skills and certification to participate in my chosen areas of employment. After completion I would be able
to find my desired employment with excellent employers and lucrative positions since this course is also
designed for senior management and consultancy.
So, looking forward with a perspective of career growth, I aim to add Master of Professional Accounting
degree course in my curriculum so that I can make myself worthy of the best employment opportunity in
market. With the help of modules designed in this degree program, I would develop critical thinking and
analytical skills for a successful global accounting career.
I read a lot on the internet about different countries and the experiences of people who had been there, and
Australia sounded the best among all countries. My most important reason is the quality of education it
provides. Also, Australia has the world's top universities, incredible nature, and vibrant cities. Furthermore,
Australian degrees are globally recognized, making graduates from Australia immensely successful in
finding employment after completion of their studies in India. In Australia, I have the opportunity to pursue
an outstanding education from leading universities with world-class facilities. Also, Australian universities,
colleges, and schools teach both practical as well as theoretical knowledge to students, to help them
succeed in a fast-changing world and remain agile in uncertain times. On the other hand, my birthplace
India, though a wonderful and beautiful country, lacks behind in providing quality of education and
opportunities to their youth. Schools in India just provide theoretical knowledge with no practical
approach. Students are supposed to just cram the subjects and score marks instead of gaining knowledge
here. The Indian system follows an outdated curriculum making it impossible for students to give a neck-
to-neck competition internationally. The Indian method of assessment is mostly examination-based. These
issues were also faced by me during my Bachelors. Compared to this, Australia gives equal opportunity to
every student. Also, it provides great international exposure to students. Australia uses various assessment
ways to test students such as through assignments, seminars, etc. Also, there is not much wide range of
courses available for Accounting and Finance which transform a student to an industry ready professional.
Apart from Australia, I have checked this course in different countries like the UK, CANADA, USA,
NEWZEALAND. I have various reasons to choose Australia over these countries. One of these is a safer
environment. Australia is very warm, welcoming, multicultural, and harmonious. Australia has one of the
lowest crime rates in the world and strict gun control laws. Also, the Australian education system really
resonates with me.
UK - Accommodation is very expensive here. Students require nearly 25% more funds to maintain
expenses. Also, there is immense competition for college Admission.
USA - Each state in the USA has a different syllabus curriculum, creating disparity among students of the
varying standards of education. Secondly, the cost of education is slowly rising every year.
NEWZEALAND - It is a smaller country in comparison with Australia. It does not provide options for
Masters offering diplomas and PG diplomas.
CANADA – The weather is too extreme here, Hence being the biggest reason to not go for masters in
Canada.
EUROPE – language is the biggest barrier for me in European countries. This could lead to problems in
future. On the other hand, I have practiced English from primary school which will help me in Australia.
My parents and my paternal uncle will sponsor me for my further studies. My father is a businessman and
works in the retail sector in collaboration with Dell,Lenovo and Hp at his own proprietary Showroom, his
annual income is Rs 6,50,507/- (AUD 12,030) as per the assessment year 2020-2021. He had funds of Rs
30,00,000/- (AUD 55,480 ) in his HDFC Bank account as of 9 th Nov,2021, on 10th Nov after payment of
initial deposit to Deakin University and OSHC for the duration of the course of Rs.11,20,370 (AUD 19,628)
remaining funds in his HDFC Bank account are Rs.18,96,336 (AUD 35313) and Rs 5,29,396/- (AUD 9,790 )
in my HDFC Bank account. Both make up a total of Rs 24,25,732/- (AUD 45,172). My uncle is a
Serviceman, he has a private job in a reputed private company and has an annual income of Rs
20,23,890/- (AUD 37,428) and he will be partially funding my studies. He has transferred an amount of
Rs.10,00,000 to my father’s mentioned HDFC bank account. All this will help in completing my studies in
Australia.
Career Plans: After successfully completing Master of Professional Accounting, I have plans to return to
my home country carrying along with me international qualification, unique experiences and a treasure of
invaluable knowledge and skills. I wish to work in my home country and make a significant contribution to
the field of Accounting and Finance. I am sure that knowledge and skills I will gain at Birmingham City
University will help me in building a great career for myself as Senior Financial Analyst, Financial
Controller or director, Chief Finance Officer, Consultant, Finance Specialist or Finance Manager.
I am very attached to my country and its culture. In India culturally, family is the biggest priority. I’ve seen
my parents take care of my grandparents in the last days of their life and now I would like to be with them
and keep them happy. This can be done only if we can stay close to our culture, heritage and family. My
only purpose for going to Australia is to study. I want to get a quality education and then use that
knowledge to work with the largest and most advanced Companies in India and this international degree at
Griffith will help me in this. I only want to go to Australia to study, develop skills, and polish my
capabilities and talents. I’ve never travelled outside India so this degree would be the best opportunity for
me to learn about new cultures. I firmly believe this Degree will take my career to new heights and I am
really excited for my future ahead in India.
• Maintain satisfactory attendance in the course and course progress for each study period as required by
the school.
• I need to inform the university and high commission upon reaching Australia in 7 working days.
• An Australian study visa allows full-time degree students to work up to 40 hours per fortnight in the
academic year.
I will forever be grateful if I will be accorded with an opportunity to pursue a Master of Professional
Accounting at your esteemed university.
