Statement of Purpose

“I failed in some subjects in exam, but my friend passed in all. Now he is an engineer in
Microsoft and I am the owner of Microsoft.” By- Bill Gates

I saw this quote of Bill Gates in Facebook around 2017 and although it looks humorous at first
this is as serious as it can be. However, I believe this quote should also be taken cautiously as
even not becoming an engineer and not being a businessman is a risk. Yet, it shows how
powerful a business can be. When a business grows it grows in exponential form and it can
encompass people, society, country and even continents. As the above quote clearly states that
the field of business is very wide and is never to be taken lightly and I have decided whole-
heartedly to enter this field and shot my future career therein.

About myself, my previous study

My name is Kushal Sapkota. I am a permanent resident of Sitalbasti, Dhulikhel Municipality

ward no. 11, Kavrepalanchok, Nepal. My date of birth is 28 th February 2000. My father name is
Mr. Nabaraj Sapkota and my mother name is Mrs. Susma Sapkota. I completed my school-
leaving certificate (SLC) from Om Gyan Mandir School in the year 2016 A.D where I achieved a
grade point average (GPA) of 3.20. Immediately after that I joined Kathmandu Model Secondary
School for my higher secondary education in management stream where I chose Management as
a specialization subject. I completed my higher secondary education in the August 2018 by
securing a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.56. I completed my higher secondary
education in Management. The program consisted of mix of general subjects such as English,
Accountancy, economics and major subjects such as business studies and hence I studied
business in both grade 11th and 12th. In both class 11 th and 12th I scored a GRADE B in business
studies subject. The emphasis of my study was to understand the fundamentals of business. I
intend to pursue my higher study in any renowned College/University abroad. I feel that getting
in a country other than one’s own is an education itself. Living in such an environment with
people having similar goals and aspirations is an enthralling experience and is of considerable
importance in one’s professional career. After some time during the month of August 2018, I
decided to prepare for International English Language testing System (IELTS-Academic) and
finally gave it on September 13, 2018. In IELTS test I scored an overall band of 5.5. After

1
intensive counseling with my parents, seniors, friends and consultants I decided to apply to
Australia in Skills Australia Institute for January 2019 intake.

Choice of Study

Before deciding what to study and which career to enter in, one must consider their interests and
goals. I still remember it was around April 2016 when I passed my school leaving certificate and
had to choose which faculty to enter in. I had three options then to go in science stream, to go in
management stream or to go in arts stream. Back then too I had weighed the pros and cons of
each stream and which stream I had interest in. However, the choice then was simple I knew I
was not a science interested guy and although I had little inclination towards arts, arts as a
subject of career in Nepal, I feel it difficult. Hence I made a simple decision to go for
management stream, the stream in which I had interest too. Now I had to go deep i.e. choose a
subject from management stream where I had to make my career. As such, there are many career
oriented subjects in management such as accountancy, marketing, human resource, banking,
strategic management, finance, entrepreneurship, business etc. to choose from. Each of these
subjects has their own specialty. Business, however I consider is the right choice to show your
presence in global market. Nonetheless, I first questioned myself is business degree a right
choice for me? Seeing the broad range of business career inside or outside the business world I
knew I am entering into the right career. Business could be the link to our future, especially
Nepal’s future because we are an agricultural society with more than 80 % engage in it and the
rest in service making few percentages only involved in business sector. The importance of
business has heightened in modern world because of its wide applicability. The interest in
business could because of the allure of the marketplace, to make life easier, to earn handsome
profit and have royal lifestyle, to start your own business. Nonetheless, the prime reason for me
to study business is to start my own business and that ideal remains a motivating factor in me. So
a basis question I asked to myself was why not start my business immediately and study
business. This is because a business degree in hand will give me advantage to establish myself
among the competition. Building or running a business certainly takes some natural talent, but
immersing yourself in the knowledge of business management, for example, can take that talent
to the next level. Also, the applicability of business makes this subject an ideal to choose from a
range of discipline. Correspondingly, the practicability of business, as business teaches one to be
more critical and problem solver require to deal with tough situations is what I feel balanced
about this course. However in business course one can master’s in communication skills,

2
negotiating skills, marketing skills and hospitality skills which are required to succeed later in
marketplace makes the program rich and motivating to choose to. For me business is not just
about production and profit, rather it is a gateway to economic development. It is not about
absorbing job that other’s created rather than forming jobs for others to absorb. Thus, the
advantage in entering the global marketplace, and, even if you don't want to dive into the
business world, it will give you a valuable skill set that translates into multiple careers. This
program i.e. diploma of business and advanced diploma of business is a ladder to my previous
learning, knowledge and experience. And the experience in all aspects form a different country,
to different Professors, to different fellow students would be an ideal one. Therefore, if given a
chance I am fully determined to put my best efforts to complete this diploma and advanced
diploma program. Business as a subject had always sparked interest in me. I was particularly
fascinated by business practical scope rather than theoretical teaching and learning. Although, I
have gained some knowledge of business during my +2 studies; I still believe this knowledge is
not enough for me to be proud of. I wanted to gain more practical knowledge in business.

During my high school years I was always passionate about how business is being operated in
Nepal. I only had a high schooling in management and continuing my higher education was
always there. There are various reasons behind choosing this course. Firstly, as I am already a
business student, I want to continue my education in business field and I want to make career in
this field as it opens the door to the world. Also, this course provides the skills and discipline to
manage capital, people and resources. This degree will equip me with the skills to conduct
effective marketing of a brand, make strategic decisions about projects in any organization and
ultimately increase my influence and worth in the professional business world. I will be able to
utilize my skills in a broad spectrum of industries such as corporate offices, educational
institutions, as well as healthcare and insurance organizations. Diploma of Business will provide
with the knowledge, understanding of theories, methods and practical skills using case studies,
discussions and assessments in various business related work environments.

Ultimately, as many students go to business school or join business courses to learn how to
launch their dream business. Being a business student will develop entrepreneurial skills to test
our rough ideas emerge as a concrete plan. Studying business overall makes you your own boss.

Why Australia? /Why not other countries? /Why not Nepal?

3
Someone has rightly said that dilemma occurs when you need to choose between good and good
not when you need to choose between good and bad. I sincerely say that choosing Australia and
finally deciding to study in Australia was hard but I can even say confidently that it is a best
decision because the decision was not made in random thought rather than through careful
analysis of comparing different countries. Education for me has two parts knowledge and skills.
But, I have chosen Australia for both parts knowledge as well as skills. I would be adding skills
through diploma and advance diploma courses and piling the skills to gain knowledge later at
bachelor’s level.

After knowing that the international degree is globally recognized all around the world, I was
interested to continue my further study overseas. First, I, along with my parents did research on
some colleges providing course of business studies in my own country. We, explored colleges
like Kathmandu Model College itself, because this was the college from where I passed my high
school and it still holds good reputation for degree such as Bachelor of Business Administration
(BBA) and Bachelor of Business Studies (BSS) Other colleges such as Xavier’s, College of
Applied Business, and Global College of Management. There were a handful of colleges offering
the desired courses at affordable cost, but theoretical mode of teaching and delivering knowledge
was still prevalent. The lack of practical implications of the course as well as lack of market
exposure made me change my mind and continue my research on other countries. Along with
that, foundation course like Diploma in Business and higher advanced diploma courses was not
available at all in my country. This type of foundation course will help to enhance my skills for
my future career prospects.

However, I was initially in dilemma between where to study whether in home country (Nepal) or
in neighbouring countries (India, China) or to an overseas country (USA, UK, Germany,
Australia etc.). India as a close neighbour to Nepal also attracts Nepalese student towards it.
However, considering the practicability and internationality of business education and
considering safe environment as compared to western countries I drop the idea of looking further
on to study in India. China also a close neighbour to Nepal attracts a lot of medical students in
many Universities that offer programs in English. However, with business and management,
China is averagely known to host Nepali students and also the language barrier made me drop
the idea of not exploring into Chinese colleges and Universities much. They usually prefer their
own language Chinese to study.

4
In Europe, I surfed some countries where I can continue my further education. I searched in
countries like Finland, Germany, Denmark and Norway because these are the commons that I am
hearing usually for international students to study. Firstly, for Finland, many international
students are attracted towards the Finnish education system. Finnish universities and universities
of applied sciences offer a wide variety of educational programs taught in English. Every year
Finland receives foreign students from all around the world. To get admission in any Finnish
university in bachelor, I need to give the entrance exam, which will be held on mid of April.
When choosing your study place you should always give preference to educational institutions
that organize their entrance exams in Nepal. The FINNIPS (Finnish Network for International
Programmes: Entrance Examinations outside Finland) offers the most complete information on
entrance examinations organized abroad (http://www.finland.org.np). Appearing in the entrance
exam is not a problem for me because I am confident that I will be selected. After intense
research, I came to know that the coming session is for September 2019, which is after a year. I
don’t want to make education gap so according to suggestion of my family, tutors I dropped the
plan to study in Finland.

Furthermore, I searched about studying undergraduate level in Germany because German

universities combine research and study. They've been the scenes of many ground-breaking
discoveries and they're internationally renowned. German universities attract faculty and students
from around the world. During my research I found that 10+2 years of schooling or A-levels are
not recognized as an equivalent to German Abitur A and therefore I with 10+2 qualifications
must complete a one year foundation course at the so called Studienkolleg in Germany, the
requirement of which is Zertifikat B1 from Goethe Institute, Nepal. Once I have completed B1
level of German language, I will need to appear for an entrance examination at the Studienkolleg
known as Aufnamheprufung. Upon successful completion of the preparatory courses with good
grades, they can start their studies in Bachelor’s degree.

Similarly, in Japan there are good universities where I can study undergraduate in business
however after consulting with education consultancies and from my own research I came to
know that I need to study Japanese language for 2 years. Then only after appearing in
examination for Japanese universities (EJU) I can study undergraduate. Thus, due to language
barrier I dropped the plan to study in Japan.

5
United States of America (USA) is recognized as world's leading study destination for
international students. It is often said that an international student looking to find both rewarding
and stable career might find themselves studying business in USA. Business in USA is a great
career for any international students because it allows for growth and specialization in many
areas. There are various courses available at USA like Bachelor of Business, Bachelor of
Business Administration, Bachelor of International Business and many more. These programmes
are offered by various universities of USA like The Northern Arizona University, Concordia
University, Iowa State University, Southern Utah University, Wichita State University, Carroll
University and many more. After researching with the program and the university and compare
with Australian colleges and university I found that the cost of education is very high in USA.
Lack of scholarships or assistantships, it will be hard to pay tuition fee. Moreover, I frequently
hear the news about gunshot in university, shopping complex, fuel station and other public places
as well. Thus, the level of insecurity is very high. I can achieve something if I am alive. Australia
is declared as one of the safest country in the world. So, analyzing all these things though the
education system in US is ranked best in the world I have decided to omit USA from my list.

United Kingdom (UK) is also considered as best education provider and ranked best in the
world. There are various universities in UK providing business programmes; Middlesex
University, University of West London, University of Glasgow, University of Liverpool and
many more. After analysing minutely with many of these universities I found the tuition fees and
cost of living are very expensive. Moreover, in UK there is no such act of protecting tuition fee
of international students if any colleges or universities became blacklisted. In the year 2010-11 I
have seen many of my seniors who went UK for higher education return back to Nepal without
any degree. They are studying in the college in UK and suddenly government of UK announces
the college is blacklisted. There is no other option than returning back to the own country. From
this, students did not receive any academic certificate, they lose the tuition fee they paid to the
university and on top of that the valuable time spend in UK is just useless. However, Australia
has act of Tuition Fee Protection Scheme (TPS) and Education Service for Overseas Students
(ESOS) for international students which protect the tuition fee paid by the students and doesn't
have to bear huge loss of time and money.

No matter how long you tend to devote time on researching, one day you have to finally decide
on your options. And my options ended when I whole-heartedly choose Australia. I compared

6
this country from head to tail and the results showed a very promising future for me. I would like
to point out the reasons that led me choose Australia undoubtedly. Australian education system
is practical based that runs in a principle that “an ounce of practice is worth a pound of theory.”
It provides education with cutting edge technology that helps to maintain our bright future in
today’s rapidly changing working environment. It has emerged as a popular destination for
higher education due to its quality educational infrastructure, a quality life and relatively
reasonable expenses. We also hear in news, read articles about guns issues and many criminal
activities held in USA. But Australia is declared as one of the safest countries with low crime. A
peaceful and secure atmosphere, together with the cosmopolitan charisma Australia will be the
ideal destination for me. I’m pleased to secure admission for studying Australia. I recon the
international exposure boosts my experiences and confident level. As for me as an international
student I will have to choose the county which will be safe and that would be Australia for me.
Main thing is that other countries do not have Tuition Fee Protection Service (TPS) and
Education Service For Overseas Student (ESOS) act like Australia have all the protection
schemes for international students. The climatic condition of Australia is also much better and
adaptable for me than other countries. Thus, after all my research, I came to a conclusion that
Australia provides quality education with strict rules and regulations and has separate laws to
safeguard the rights of international students. Also, the availability of courses such as Diploma
and Advanced Diploma and ease of movement along from one level of AQF framework to other
makes me choose Australia over other countries. Also through www.studyinaustralia.gov.au
website and other study related Australian website I found that Australian institutions offers
22,000 courses at 1,100 institutions and the university education system is ranked 9th in the
world ahead of Germany, New Zealand and Japan. Also, there are 2,500,000 international alumni
of Australian institutions that are making a worldwide impact. Also, Australia is among the
happiest countries in the world according to report world happiness report of 2017 and its
Universities are consistently ranked in top 1 % universities and top 50 universities under 50
years rank. Hence, Australia being as English-speaking country with I came to conclusion that
Australia provides quality education with strict rules and regulations and has separate laws to
safeguard the rights of international students. Having decided in which area I want to dedicate
my life, it was time for me to resolve where to study. Via exploring the Internet I came to know
that there are millions of international students who have gone on to make a difference after
studying in Australia. The degree of Australia that students attains are widely recognized,

7
accepted and respected around the world, which will help students enrich their life academically
as well as personally. There are long-term global career opportunities to brighten student’s life.
In addition, Australia has a wide scope for the course that I am heading to study. All this
motivated me to look for possibilities to continue my study in Australia. I think it would be a
good chance to receive high-level education under guidance of admirable mentor. After having
knowledge in Business and entrepreneurship from Australia I will use my knowledge and
expertise in improving my business and scaling it up.

All in all, the reason are unlimited for choosing Australia however I have only list few important
reason that led me choose Australia over other destinations.

Why Perth?

Perth is a beautiful city of Western Australia and its capital too. Despite being far from
Australia’s other cities such as Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne, Perth is one of the fastest
growing capital city of Australia and the fourth city to hit two million people. With a cast
landscape, lush greenery and the beautiful coastline, it’s no wonder people are flocking to Perth.
However, through my research I found that Perth is huge. If Western Australia was a country, it
would be in the top ten biggest countries in the world. Perth lives in isolation surrounded by
Indian Ocean and Australian outback on other. However, the most important thing for me as a
student is because Perth is regarded as “education City” of Australia and I can get the best of
education providers by living in Perth. Being a business student I will be able to learn a lot from
this city that has progress a lot in business sector. I will be able to gain new idea and learn new
skill from living there and hopefully I will be able to implement those ideas elsewhere. As I said
earlier I have done a lots of research about Perth too. Perth has one of the lowest cost of all
Australian cities and has an efficient public transportation system too. Perth offers a
cosmopolitan environment for an international student with lower cost of accommodation. Perth
also offers recreational activities for enjoying nature as one can swim with dolphins and go
whale watching and watch coral spawning. Perth is also good for music, theatre film and art and
Perth society is deep in art and diversity. The summer is vibrant as Perth hosts multiple festivals,
outdoor cinemas and live music under the stars. The other sightseeing Perth city has are the
Sawn river, Kings park, State war memorial, Botanic gardens which are the others reasons to
choose this city for.

8
Why I chose Skills Australia Institute (SAI)?

In their official website i.e. under www.skillsaustralia.edu.au which I researched extensively

before choosing it, I came across numerous facts which led me ultimately choose SAI. The best
thing about SAI is its location which is situated at central Perth location, implying that
transportation in major buses, trains, ferry is really convenient for me as a student. Most
importantly as a student I can enjoy at the facilities that SAI have in the form of modern
classroom that is fully equipped with teaching aid. The facilities of campus wide WIFI and
access to food court, cafes and retail outlets makes me choose SAI. However, as a student I felt
good to know that the college have a good library both physical and e-library and friendly
learning platform providing academic assistance. After deciding to go through the VET courses
it was difficult for me to choose the best institution in the Australia. It is not that I have not
researched on any other institution before finally choosing SAI. There are many institutions that
are providing Business course too. After choosing Australia as a country and Perth as a city for
my study destination, I had to choose between different colleges both private and TAFE
providers for VET education. The variable for choosing a study institute range from course fee,
course location, course duration, future employability, facilities and how internationality each
institute was. For that I started to search many institutions, which provided VET courses in
business and took suggestion from the consultancy, seniors and teachers for my higher studies.
They suggested me some colleges, which offered these courses such as Australian Professional
Skills Institute, North Metropolitan TAFE, West Australian Institute of Further studies, Global
College Australasia and Skills Australia Institute. I started to compare the colleges to choose one
out of many.

 SAI VERSUS Australian Professional Skills Institute (APSI)

Australian Professional Skills Institute offered many courses at East Perth location for
business at different level such as in certificate level IV, Diploma and also at advanced
diploma level. However, I was interested in diploma level and advance diploma courses
and I found a course of diploma of business of 52 weeks which was exact the same
course and in same duration as Skills Australia Institute. And, it offered a 26 weeks
advanced diploma of business which I feel is of very less duration for acquiring
knowledge and skills for a senior management professional. However, with SAI I, could

9
do a 52 weeks Diploma of followed by 52 weeks advanced diploma of business where I
could do a head to head comparison with APSI and no doubt SAI turned a better option
for me.

 SAI Versus North Metropolitan TAFE

I was also interested to find a government VET provider i.e. TAFE education provider as
such, The Government of Western Australia provides VET education through TAFE in
North Metropolitan. It was where I looked and found Diploma in Business however
lacked higher learning such as advanced diploma of business. It offered this course in
Perth, Western Australia as for instance the diploma which was of one semesters with per
semester cost of AUD $ 6,120 which made a total cost of around AUD $ 12,240. This
was expensive than what SAI offered a total package of 52 weeks for AUD $ 11,000 but
the main thing not to choose North Metropolitan TAFE was because it offered next intake
only on August 2019 and waiting such a long time for this educational provider was not a
justified decision.

 SAI Versus West Australian Institute of Further Studies

West Australian Institute of Further Studies located at level 1, 160 central Arcade, 811
Hay Street, in Western Australia offered Certificate III, IV, Diploma and Advanced
Diploma of Business. However, each of the VET courses were of 26 weeks. I, however
was more inclined towards Diploma of Business and Advanced Diploma of Business as
they courses increases the knowledge and skills require to excel in middle level and
senior level position in business world. Also, the fees for a 26 weeks diploma and 26
weeks advanced diploma was AUD $ 7500 which is too expensive than what SAI had to
offered a 52 week course at AUD $ 11,000. This motivated me to go for a 104 weeks
combined Diploma and advanced diploma of business at SAI which was broader in
subject courses and units of study.

 SAI Versus Global College Australasia

Another college named Global College Australasia provided diploma of leadership and
Management and advanced diploma of leadership and management seeing the course
content I loved this course content because it was more diversified where I could turn
into many careers into managers or leaders. However, I was more focused on learning

10
entrepreneurship skills than leadership or managerial skills. It had 50 weeks of diploma
and 52 weeks of advanced diploma in leadership and management. Although, a country
such as Nepal need leaders still I hoped to contribute Nepal being an entrepreneur and not
a manager or leader and this led me choose SAI over this college.

All in all, as the mission of SAI is to help people grow and develop the skills they need to reach
for their dreams. I am hopeful that through its nationally recognized qualification I would have
best change to getting better job and secure a healthy living. Additionally, SAI offers a flexible
learning that is blend of face-to-face and online modes as well as it facilitates work placement of
students. The assistance service they provide to student is also remarkable by assisting student
through chat, email, and telephone as well as through walk-in appointments. Moreover, SAI
offers facilities such as having modern fully furnished, air-conditioned, which are equipped with
whiteboards, overhead data projectors. Similarly, wireless Internet connection throughout the
campus and having online library are more features of SAI to choose it.

Why VET?

Before choosing on to VET courses I was in doubt over choosing with diploma and bachelor’s
but knew if I had to excel I must grab a degree and that too from an international friendly
country and internationally accredited degree. Vocational education and training commonly
known as VET course is that part of tertiary education and training which provides accredited
training in job related and technical skills. It is a practical or skill based education. As with any
other student I was also in doubt in choosing between VET course or Bachelor degree. I made
minute comparison to know the pros and cons of both these course, which help me to remove the
confusion. Generally, VET course provides the skills to help me to join the workforce for the
first time. I have not worked anywhere professionally till date, thus this course help me to make
ground to work for the first time. This course helps me to upgrade my skills in the field of
business. Traditionally, VET course are known to focus more on providing practical and work-
oriented occupational skills, whereas university or higher education courses are better known for
focusing on providing theory-based knowledge and both these course leads to professional career
paths. VET course will also help to upgrade my skills for bachelor level as VET courses tend to
focus more on providing occupational skills, whereas university courses are better known for

11
focusing on theory and professional career paths. I choose VET course before bachelor because
of their practical focus. Generally, VET course cover:

• Basic life skills; which is also called pre-vocational training or foundation studies.
• Semi-professional vocational training like health and safety.
• Study areas with a practical focus like in nursing, music and business.

After completion VET course of diploma and advance diploma for 2 years I will be eligible for
higher education courses like bachelor degrees. This VET course can provide me with a pathway
into higher education sector. Thus, I can gain practical knowledge in VET course as well as I
will have intense theoretical level in bachelor degree. The mass participation in university does
guarantee quality education, but lags when it comes too practical training. Conversely, by
choosing VET course I take about 2 years to learn basic knowledge and practical knowledge,
which will also benefit me in bachelor degree.

Business as a subject needs much of practical learning. VET as a subject provides much of
practical learning. Therefore, it was that point of time where I decided choosing practical subject
(like business) and learning in a practical (VET study) way will be the best for me.

Plan after completing my VET Courses

After obtaining my desired level by associating with SAI and Australia, I have strong
determination to use my Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and to complete by bachelor
degree at any Australian Universities. There are various universities that are offering Bachelor of
Business programme. My aim of becoming an entrepreneur in Nepal is only possible with the
help of recognized university education in Australia. Australian University delivers both quality
and reliability; I trust that my bachelors of hospitality degree in Australia would be in safe hands.
With regard to this, I have researched some universities in Australia that are offering Bachelor of
Business and Bachelor of administration in entrepreneurship and innovation. The following
listed are some of the universities which I have researched for Bachelor of business or closely
related subjects. The good thing about these universities where I researched is that all of these
location in in Perth. This is because I would be joining this course is its location in Perth where I
would be joining Skills Australia Institute first.

• Edith Cowan University (ECU)

12
• Murdoch University (MU)
• Curtin University
• Monash University
Edith Cowan University

This institute was awarded university status in 1991 and since then developed innovative and
practical courses across a wide range of disciplines including business. It has 20,000 students at
both undergraduate and postgraduate levels including 4,000 international students. The yearly
fees for this program i.e. Bachelor of Commerce is AUD $ 34,500. The Bachelor of Commerce
with focus in International Business is placed at AUD $ 30,650, which aids theoretical
knowledge and practical skills for a career in international arena. Edith Cowan University has
many experiences of Quality and hallmarks of excellence such as by getting in list of 2019 Times
Higher Education World University Rankings, 2018 Shanghai Rankings, 2018 QILT website;
student experience ratings.

Monash University

Monash business graduates are sought after worldwide due to the quality of evidence-based
teaching and clinical practice experience they receive. The Bachelor of business administration
in business administration studies and bachelor of business administration in finance and
economics, bachelor of business administration in management practice are some of the degrees
offered by Monash University in business faculty. These courses provides students with
administrative knowledge of setting the right tools and techniques in senior managerial
positions, Monash bachelor courses in faculty of business will prepare us for increasingly
complex business environment in Australia and internationally.  We will gain invaluable skills in
business, globalization, international trade, administration etc. The 3 year full time degree
offered to international students is priced at AUD $ 43,400 which I could for in researching more
courses in distant future.

Curtin University

Curtin University is an internationally recognized research and teaching university in Perth. It

was recognized as university status in 1987. It has more than 16,500 international students of
61,000 strong student bodies and is a most culturally diverse University. Apart from its main

13
campus in Bentley, Perth it has campuses in Sydney, Malaysia and Singapore. From its school of
business Curtin University offers Bachelor of Business Administration a 200-credit course at
AUD $ 28,600 per year. This degree offers a broad career to become expertise in general
management with the added ability to specialize in areas such as small business and
entrepreneurship.

Murdoch University

It began its operation from Perth in 1976 and now has campuses in five locations globally e.g.
Singapore and Dubai excluding Australian campuses. It also stands as top Universities in
Australia and Asia-pacific region. Also, ranked amongst the top 100 young universities in the
world Murdoch university has more than 23,000 students from 90 countries it is one of multi
culture university with free-thinking graduates and life changing researchers. Murdoch
University offers Bachelor of commerce in Accounting, bachelor of Commerce n Banking,
Bachelor of Business in International Business, Bachelor of business in Marketing, Bachelor of
commerce plus Bachelor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation etc. courses in Business faculties.
Of course I wish and am excited to study Bachelor of Commerce plus Bachelor of
entrepreneurship and Innovation which is a 4 years degree with per annum cost of AUD $
29,131. The advantage of this degree is I can get a double degree one in Commerce and other in
entrepreneurship and Innovation, this combined course is nowhere in Western Australia. The
degree suits the changing world to create entrepreneurs of 21st century.

All in all, I have made the decision now only with reference to various universities website. The
conclusion that I have made is completely based on the limited information and source. So, the
decision that I made now could be change after visiting the university by me. I will personally
visit the university, discuss with friends, seniors, professors at Skills Australia Institute before
making any decision. For now, considering all the variables mentioned above, I find Universities
in Perth location such as Edith Cowan and Murdoch a good option now. Especially the degree
offered by Murdoch University i.e. Bachelor of commerce plus Bachelor of Entrepreneurship
and Innovation is a unique course only found in Western Australia. I am certainly interested for
these kind of courses which encourages a commoner to gain insights into entrepreneurship, being
a creator of one’s own destiny by being a boss rather than working for someone else. This option
would of course be large, as I would also look at more universities for my bachelor’s degree once
I happen to be in Australia.

14
It is a strong belief in my family that the Australian education system has the best to offer in the
whole world. Skills Australia Institute is one of such college that ensures the high standard of
education. Also, Australia’s welcoming foreign policy, excellent education standards and distinct
approach to teaching have all inspired me tremendously. Therefore, in Australia I have planned
to grab at least a bachelor’s degree. Moreover, my family wants me to complete at least to
Bachelor’s level there in Australia. By the time I complete my bachelors it will be 4-5 years from
now. I know time changes and things change too but I am mostly predetermined to complete my
bachelor’s and apply for post study work (PSW) facility, as it is the facility provided by the
Government of Australia towards International student. I hope to use RPL and join bachelor’s
second year at any Universities. I am also happy that at SAI there are tutors who would help me
using RPL to transfer on to other Universities.

About my course

The course I have chosen for my VET education is BSB50215 Diploma of Business. The
Diploma of Business is placed at level 5 at Australian Qualification framework (AQF) and I
would be starting this course on 14th January 2019. This course is of 52 weeks in duration.
Looking at the website of SAI i.e. https://www.skillsaustralia.edu.au/, I have found that this
qualification would provide me with a very strong foundation to work in as a team leader in
delivering customer service, maintaining fiscal accounts or creating commercial documentation.
The requisite skills would enable one to work in middle management in the corporate, bureau, or
organizational environments with possible job positions being business manager, program
consultant, supervisor, team leader and program coordinator etc. The course contains 8 units of
study with subjects such as managing quality customer service, managing budgets and financial
plans, managing recruitment, selection and induction processes, plan and implement
administrative systems, manage meeting etc. and so on. I have a particular interest in this subject
of planning and implementing administrative systems because I believe in Nepal what we lack is
inefficient administrative. I see people in queue in hospitals, banks, petrol stations and in paying
their bills for electricity and telephone. However, a simple system of token i.e. by implementing
administrative change a complex fight to fight i.e. a head to head situation of people in puzzled
queue can be easily simplified. However, immediately after its completion I join BSB60215
Advanced Diploma of Business on 13th January 2021, which is also a 52 week course which
favors individual who have a significant theoretical business knowledge and skills, and would

15
like to learn how business functions in real world with possible career opportunities being
business analyst, senior manager, senior executive, executive director and so on. I move on to
higher level of qualification i.e. level 6 at Australian Qualification framework with course
advanced diploma of Business. This course is made up of 8 units. Some of the unit course
includes subjects such as managing knowledge and information, lead and manage organizational
change, develop and implement a business plan, develop marketing plan, manage finances,
manage innovation and continuous improvement. As such I would more interested in subjects
such as developing and implementing a business plan as I aspire to know all the know-how of
business and any business start with rough idea that takes place into final product/service only
when one can develop and implement business plans.

Accommodation and International Students Visa Condition

I am positive that I would have a lovely life in Perth, Australia and at SAI. But I also know my
responsibility i.e. I am aware of international student visa condition and about Post Study Work
and Accommodation too. With Accommodation in Perth is average and less expensive than other
cities such as Sydney and Melbourne. Hence, I am prepared to pay around AUD $ 250- 350 for
it. However, I would have less job opportunities in Perth as compared to other cities such as
Sydney and Melbourne but at this moment I am more focused on my degree than job. That is
why I have carefully planned my finances. I have secured educational loan and paying the
Interest and monthly installment which is not a problem as I have a good source of income from
my father and very supportive mother.

Every country has their own rules and regulation for their own nationals and internationals.
Similarly, there are some rules that any international students have to follow during the stay at
Australia. So, being an international student it is compulsory form me to follow the rules and
aware about the visa conditions. Knowing the visa conditions will help me not breach the law
made by the Australian government for the international students. For this I have visited the
website namely www.border.gov.au and found some of the important visa conditions which are
mentioned below:

• I have to attend my classes regularly and I must maintain 80% attendance.

• I must score minimum 50% marks in each term.

16
• As an international student I cannot work more than 40 hours per fortnight during my
class.
• I must have and maintain the overseas student health cover (OSHC) until I live in
Australia. I should not enter Australia until it is done, and I must renew my OSHC
before its expiration.
• I cannot change the institution within 6 months of the enrolment and without the
permission from my current college.
• I must have accommodation and support, and my general welfare must be maintained
for the duration of my stay in Australia. I cannot change these arrangements without
having an approval from my education provider in written form.
• I must notify to the university and DIBP within 7 days if I change my contacts and
residential address.
• I must study with full dedication and sincerity in stipulated time with full load.

Sponsor Support

I feel lucky that for my offshore education in Australia, I need to have a proper financial support
from my sponsor’s that my sponsor’s essentially possess. With finance my sponsors are father
Mr. Nabaraj Sapkota and mother Mrs. Susma Sapkota supporting my living and education in
Australia. With regards to our income, my father is working with Shree Shital Dairy Pvt. Ltd.,
Bhaktapur, as a Procurement Manager since 1st December 2011. To support this my father have
provided the salary certificate, which have been verified from Dhulikhel Municipality too. In
terms of income from Shree Shital Dairy, he earns NPR 624,000. Additionally, my father earn
Nepalese Rupees 468,000 from renting my land (plot no. 112, 742, 113, 740). Further, my
mother gets salary income from Nawa Nirman Multipurpose Co-operative Ltd. working for
marketing department as a Marketing Manager for which she have provided salary certificate.
Her annual income it is NPR 420,000. Further, all our income is all verified from Dhulikhel
Municipality (Government Office). The combined annual income is therefore Nepalese Rupees
15,12,000. In Australian Dollar our combined annual income is Eighteen Thousand One
hundred Seventy Three dollars and eight cents only. (i.e. AUD $ 18,173.08) With regards to
the fee payment, this was paid on December 2, 2018 from the Joint education loan taken in name
of my father Mr. Nabaraj Sapkota and me secured from Civil Bank Ltd. for Nepalese Rupees
3,500,000 (Three Million Five Hundred Thousand). This loan is secured by my father’s property

17
(plot no: 112,113 and 742). For the first disbursement the bank has disbursed NPR 1.2 million
into my father’s account number 03510189820018 and the tuition fees including OSHC, material
fee and application fee of AUD $ 12,703.75 has been send towards the college. This was
transferred on December 2, 2018. Also, further disbursement of NPR 2.3 million will be
available when requested to bank in need of my education and living in Australia. Further, there
is a balance of Nepalese Rupees 108,445.61 (AUD $ 1,322.74). I have attached the sanctioned
letter, loan letter, balance statement and balance certificate for the verification too. My sponsor’s
are an economically sound and a responsible family who think Australia will provide a safe
environment for me to get a high quality education.

Career Goals

One of the most significant decisions in life is the choice of career. “The first step to knowledge
is to know that we are ignorant”. This statement is the impetus behind my urge to learn. A
shrewd decision made based of factors ranging from latent interests, inherent skills to scope and
satisfaction. My choice of career has emanated from careful analysis and planning. I have always
believed in the best and then, given my innate potential, assimilated knowledge and positive
attitude. I am confident I will succeed in my endeavor. From my early childhood till date, my
most remarkable characteristic has been my curiosity to learn about new topics. My keen interest
for learning new ideas, combined with my inner desire to reach a degree of excellence in every
piece of work I perform, enabled me to acquire significant knowledge on various aspects of
nature and its relationship to business. It also helped me in advancing towards a successful
educational career. A constant urge to learn and explore, an ambition to become a business
entrepreneurship, a desire to be a part of growing globalized economy where Kathmandu is just a
click away from business valleys of Silicon in California. My fascination for technology has been
longstanding and persistent. Ever since my school days I have enjoyed studying business and
have had an inclination for problem solving and desire to know more, from which, I drew the
inspiration to imbibe the true spirit of business in a prestigious institution. My higher secondary
schooling courses has provided me with a firm foundation of the basic principles of business
including courses such as accounting, economics, etc. Therefore I am now decided to take these
bases of business studies to my higher education by studying VET courses at Skills Australia
Institute.

To ensure that business sector as a viable career option back when I return to Nepal, I must know

18
my country better in terms of infrastructure, ease of doing business and in easy process to acquire
funds. Basically, Nepal is one of the least developed countries of the world. The higher study is
not able to compete with the present world status. The business sector in my country is just
emerging. Getting a Diploma and advanced diploma is not only what I want. I want to change my
perception, personality and gain an in-depth knowledge about interrelations and inter-
dependency of business, management and organization. I therefore think that the college teaching
and practical methodologies would improve and increase my knowledge and practical
experience, especially because I have very little research and practical education possibilities in
my country. It will be my privilege to work, develop and learn from professors with great
experience in theory and practice. With a big gap between theory and practical, I hope this
program offered by SAI is a useful addition to my current education that I can use for my later
professional career. I believe that SAI College is one who can lead my career to a new height. I
believe obtaining a Diploma and advanced diploma will provide me the necessary background to
adapt and react intellectually to the ever-changing environment. I am confident enough that I
could be able to accomplish higher study in the proposed field that will contribute to my future
professional interest as well as to the society as a whole. I believe Nepal could be an ideal place
to practice business in coming future. First of all my country is growing in economy. Some
global report suggest that by 2022 Nepal would jump from its status of least developed countries
to developing countries. Nepali Entrepreneurs and businessman currently in 2017 are very happy
not only because the scale, volume of business has increased but also in absence of power cut.
Yes, the country faced a power cut of up to 18 hours a day in dry seasons. From November 2016
the capital city (Kathmandu) and other major cities such as Chitwan, Pokhara, have not faced the
problem of power cut. What does this mean to Nepali businessmen? Any business whether
manufacturing or service requires energy to run. In a situation before November 2016 where
businessmen had to operate its business through alternative energy (in absence of electricity)
using Inverter, UPS’s, solar energy, thermal plant, Generator and Invertor the cost of production
would be double. It was a situation where many businesses were looking to close and jobs were
decreasing. Now business are looking to open and jobs are increasing. As every business whether
small or big are thus contributing to national economy. These and all the positives make me
believe that my future career in Nepal is safe too and now is the time where I just need to focus
on my VET courses and degree and be capable because I know that external environments are
something which we can't control of. As Business serves in minimizing unemployment but these

19
days in my country Nepal. The good news however for Nepal today is not only external investors
but internal investors have been encouraging to invest in many sectors in Nepal be it hotel,
tourism, banking, manufacturing or service sector. Thus, we must continue to look for
environment suitable and conducive to grow business internally and for it an average persons like
me needs business skills, entrepreneurship skills and a career in business education and
professional development is so important and this can be done when I gain skills and experience
from business field in Australia.

The experience and learning from this course will not only give me international exposure, but
also make me more employable on my return to Nepal. Nepal is the most liked tourism
destination in the world and it has high potentiality of hospitality and tourism industry. So with
my degree in business it will be easier to establish my business in Nepalese tourism market. I
could also linked agriculture with my business degree as stated earlier Nepal’s economy is 80 %
dependent on agriculture, thus if I can employ my business knowledge for instance convert
household earnings on agriculture to societal earnings to commercial earnings and finally in able
to export to other countries I would be proud of my business degree. This can only be possible
with knowledge and information I gained there in Australia will make me easier to compete with
other competitors of business industry.

My ultimate aim is to utilize the knowledge and training, which I will receive through my
Diploma and Advanced Diploma of Business in Skills Australia Institute to work in a business
related industry where I will look to hone and perfect my practical skills before eventually
starting my own organization to serve the widened needs of business sector. To realize these
dreams I need to broaden my horizons, receive training and guidance. I would describe myself as
one who always craves for doing something creative, productive and strives to the last, and
someone who possesses an intense appetite to excel further irrespective of how tough situation I
am into. My main purpose of studying in Australia is because of the edge Australia and
Australian education has over others. Australia is becoming a magnet for international students
from all over the world also Australia is now more open to International students with various
culture.

I sincerely hope that by associating with SAI and Australia, I will be able to give back in return
as much as I will gain in my own knowledge under the tutelage of experts from the industry.
After obtaining my desired level in Australia (i.e. Bachelor’s) I have strong determination to

20
return to my country for an academic and intellectual purpose. Although western world is at the
pinnacle of Business growth but unfortunately, my country Nepal is in a dawn of acknowledging
its importance. So, I wish to bridge the gap that lies between our approach of definition of
business, entrepreneurship and Western World. In the future, I want to work in this direction and
prove myself valuable to Business Sector in Nepal. Last but not least, I have no doubt that the
opportunity of perusing my Diploma and Advanced Diploma at SAI and in Australia will equip
me with international standard knowledge and exposure on business Industry; and I look forward
to being a part of Aussie Culture in the very near future.

Conclusion

I am a self-taught person from the small country of Nepal, having a keen interest in practical
field of business. My long-term educational goal is to achieve at least a Bachelor’s Degree in
business particularly with focus on entrepreneurship and innovation from Australia. My lifetime
goal is to excel in the field of my interest and take it to a professional level. I will do that with
hard work, motivation and merging my knowledge from business, entrepreneurship and
innovation industry that I would study in Australia. However, I need formal education, suitable
facilities and international approach of learning and applying the principles of business by
combining my lessons learn during my diploma and advance diploma degree to address our life
related problems.

Yours Sincerely,
