    RUN OVER A WOMAN IN

    LA VALL DE
    L’ARRABASSADA
    (TARRAGONA)
    The victim has suffered ankle and head injuries

    So far this year, there have been 22 traffic accidents in Tarragona. One of them was this
    past 18th of October when a 67 years old woman had been ankle and head-injured in a
    run over that has occurred in a neighborhood of Tarragona called la Vall de l'Arrabassada.
    The victim was crossing the street through a crosswalk when she has been hit by an SUV
    that was going to fast, above the speed limit (the speed limit in the downtown of Tarragona
    has recently changed from 50 km/h to 30 km/h), and didn't have enough time to stop. The
    ambulance evacuated the women to the Joan XXIII Hospital, where she is being treated.

    The accident occurred on the 18th of October around 11:00 am at the roundabout located
    between Joan Fuster and Salvador Espriu street in la Vall de l'Arrabassada neighborhood.
    This crosspoint is poorly known for its multiple traffic accidents, and it has been marked as
    a dark point for the city hall's traffic department.
    A woman parked her SUV in front of a bakery to run errands, when she got out of the
    bakery, the women got shocked when she saw a couple of men, with their faces covered
    by a mask, stealing her car because when the victim left the car to go to the bakery, she
    forgot to close the car. These masked men saw the older women's distraction, and they
    took advantage of stealing the vehicle. Even though the victim tried to argue with them, the
    thieves didn't even listen to her. So she decided to run to the crosswalk to intercept the
    car, but the thieves went too fast to stop, and they beat the old women with a "Jeep" brand
    SUV. Then, the woman fell to the ground and hit her head on the floor.

    Quickly, the alleged aggressors and the neighbors, who have seen everything about the
    accident, called the local authorities. Two firefighters, agents of the local police ( Guardia
    Urbana ), and an ambulance have traveled to the place. After a few minutes, the woman
    has been evacuated to the Joan XXIII hospital.

    The two aggressors assumed the consequences of their acts. They went to the police
    station and talked to the Guardia Urbana in charge of writing the report. Right now, they
    are waiting for the victim's complaint to take effect to prepare the trial for the charges of
    assault and robbery with violence that will be developed in the coming months.
    Currently, the victim has left the hospital with a broken ankle and bandages all over his
    body to heal his wounds and start rehabilitation to prepare the trial and return to everyday
    life.

    Due to this accident, members of the Tarragona city council met to find a solution to
    abuses in that area of the city. That is how they decided to place a series of potholes to
    prevent cars from going at high speed through that area and, with that, avoid all the
    accidents that are possible.
