STUPID FANTASY LAWS

Black Cat Possession:

It is deemed illegal for any individual, citizen or otherwise, to be in knowing or unknowing
possession of a black cat or kitten. Possession of such a creature is a violation no matter whether or
not the cat is alive or dead, tame or wild. Likewise, it is illegal for any individual to bury a black cat
or have a black cat buried on property established within the boundaries of the ruling government.
Punishment: Possession or determined burial of a deceased black cat is punishable by no less than
twenty lashings and a fine equal to that of three day’s wages. Such a fine is not to exceed an amount
greater than 30 gold coins and must be a bare minimum of 1 silver coin. Should the guilty party be
in possession of a live black cat then the guilty party shall be punished with no less than thirty
lashings and a fine equal to that of five day’s wages. The party guilty of possessing a live black cat
shall also be required to spend up to two weeks of imprisonment for such possession.
In the event that the guilty party has raven or very dark brown hair then it is also required that the
guilty party’s head be shaven and their hair burnt in the center of the village square under the
direction of an authorized cleric or other such member of clergy. This addition of punishment
applies to possession of either a live or dead black cat, and also applies to a guilty party with raven
or dark colored hair and who has buried a black cat or has a buried black cat on their personal
property.
Probable Cause: Black cats have maintained a popular place of unluckiness amongst the
superstitious. Combined with the fact that many wizards and witches choose such a creature for
their personal familiar, the black cat symbolizes an image of wickedness, deception, and treachery
for many a simple villager.

Black Cloak Law:

It is unlawful for any individual other than an authorized member of the governing authority to be
found wearing or in the immediate possession of a black cloak or cape.
Punishment: Upon discovery of such an item the black cloak or cape shall be removed from the
guilty party’s possession and burnt in the center of the village square under the guidance of a local
official. The guilty party shall then be fined an amount equal to five day’s worth of wages. The total
amount of this fine shall not be less than 2 silver coins or greater than 50 gold coins.
Individuals who are deemed impoverished and thus unable to provide the amount of such a fine
within reasonable fine shall be sentenced to either three days in the stocks or two days worth of hard
labour.
Probable Cause: Black cloaks and capes have often been popularly symbolized with the dark arts
of magic.

Breath Of Wild Onions:

It is considered to be unlawful for an individual’s breath to reek of wild onions when such an
individual happens to be within a public accessible location.
Punishment: Individuals found guilty with their breaths reeking of wild onions shall be fined an
amount equal to 3 copper coins. Should an individual not be able to pay such a fine then the
individual will be ordered to spend a day in the stocks.
Probable Cause: This “hygiene” law was most likely passed under the interests of the wealthier
folk of the community. While having a breath reeking of wild onions would seem to be an offence
suffered only by those forced to gather their simple meals in the wild many an adventurer has been
charged with this offence as well. The reason for such charges usually roots from the fact that many
cheaper taverns and inns have been known to flavor up their meals and broths with chopped wild
onions.
Coughing In The Moonlight:
It is considered to be unlawful for an individual to be found coughing under the open, outdoor
moonlight within the grounds of the community.
Punishment: Individuals found guilty of this offense shall be charged a set fine equal to 2 copper
coins per offense. Should an individual be found guilty of coughing under the moonlight for more
than three different offenses then the individual shall be given no less than five floggings with a
whip.
Probable Cause: It is believed by many superstitious individuals that the moon, particularly a full
moon, empowers the arts of evil. Likewise, such superstitions also imply that many diseases are the
cause of evil beings. If one is found coughing under the direct light of the moon then it is believed
that one is attempting to aid the spread of disease and evil corruption by passing out the diseases
sent down through the moon’s glow. Coughing at night indoors or underneath the shade of a leaf
bearing tree, however, is not considered to be an offense as the tree’s leaves or the roof of the
building block out the moon’s evil glow.

Dancing During A New Moon:

It is considered to be unlawful for an individual to be caught dancing during the time of a new
moon.
Punishment: Individuals found guilty of dancing during this time will be sentenced to a
punishment consisting of no less than ten lashings and two days of time in the stocks.
Probable Cause: It is quite probable that the law forbidding one to dance during a new moon is
related to the superstitious beliefs that dancing during a full moon encourages infertility within the
community, as well as the encouragement of prostitution. Many villagers also believe that witches
and warlocks dance during this time in an effort to encourage the return of the full moon, which
most superstitious feel gives evil entities and creatures their power.

Drinking From An Uncovered Vessel:

It is considered to be unlawful for an individual to drink any potable substance out of an uncovered
vessel while physically within an area that is immediately and/or freely accessible to the general
public.
Punishment: Individuals found guilty of drinking from an uncovered vessel in such a location shall
be fined a set fee of 1 silver coin. Should an individual be charged with this offense more than three
times then the individual shall also be confined to the stocks for a period of one day per offense.
Probable Cause: With the rampant spread of terrible diseases it was required for anyone visiting a
tavern or otherwise drinking in an open, public place to drink their beverages from a vessel with a
lid, such as stein.

Drinking Alcohol Before Lunch:

It is considered to be unlawful for an individual to be caught drinking any form of alcoholic
beverage at an hour before deemed reasonable for the consumption of a lunchtime dinner.
Punishment: Individuals found guilty of drinking alcohol before lunch shall be fined a set rate of 2
copper coins and ordered to spend one day in the stocks. Should the individual be found guilty of
this offense more than three times then the individual’s stock time shall be removed and replaced
with an order require the individual to stroll up and down the streets of the community during day
light hours for a time period of no less than three days. While walking up and down the streets
during this ordered time the guilty individual must wear a sign that says in big, bold letters “I Am A
Drunk”.
Probable Cause: With alcoholism becoming a problem in many crowded communities it is quite
likely that law was passed into order through the influence of the community’s “better folk”. The
consumption of wine, ale, and other such beverages was still considered acceptable, but only after
an appropriate time of day.
Drawing Water After Dusk:
It is considered to be unlawful for an individual to be caught drawing water from a well in the
community after dusk and before the dawn of morning.
Punishment: Individuals caught drawing water from a well, public or private, after the time of dusk
and before morning shall be fined an amount of 2 silver coins and imprisoned for three full days.
Probable Cause: This law must most likely passed as an effort to keep an eye on those who might
just be out and about trying to poison the wells of the community after dark.

Horse Trading After Dusk:

It is considered to be unlawful for an individual to purchase or sell a horse or similar beast of
burden after dusk and before dawn.
Punishment: Should the guilty party be the purchaser then the guilty party will be fined an amount
equal to the agreed price of the horse or other beast of burden and will be ordered to spend two days
in the stocks. Should the guilty party be the seller of the horse or other beast of burden then the
guilty party will be fined an amount equal to twice the agreed price of the horse and will be ordered
to spend five days in the stocks. In the case of either, the horse or beast of burden that was being
sold in such unlawful hours will be turned over to the possession of the ruling government or
slaughtered on the spot. In the case of slaughter the head of the horse or beast of burden will be
removed from the carcass of the creature and hung by a post in the center of the village square.
Probable Cause: The horse trading after dusk regulation most likely arose from the fact that
trading a horse or similar creature in dim light gave the purchaser a disadvantage over getting a fair
deal. Not having sufficient light to examine the animal by, it was rather easy for traders to lure
purchasers into buying old and sickly animals on the bait of a “good deal”. Such trading after hours
also provided a more discreet means of unloading stolen animals for a reasonable amount of sale.

Red Scarf Possession:

It is unlawful for any individual to be caught wearing or in the possession of a red colored scarf.
Punishment: Individuals found guilty of wearing or in the possession of a red scarf shall be
ordered a set fine of 4 copper coins and flogged for no less than ten lashings with a whip. The scarf
shall be taken by an authorized local authority to the edge of the community and burnt between the
time of the last meal of the day and the approach of midnight. The authorized authority shall be
escorted by two members of the local guard for this procedure.
Probable Cause: It is believed by many superstitious individuals that wearing a red scarf promotes
temptations of murder within the village. It is also felt that seeing someone with a red scarf on can
lead to eventual madness. While no actual recorded documentation exists many feel that this belief
came into establishment after a young prostitute wearing a red scarf had her throat slashed in a dark
alley way under the light of a full moon.

Shaving Or Trimming During A Full Moon:

It is considered to be unlawful for an individual to either shave their beard and moustache or
provide or accept any form of trimming or shaving during the time of a full moon.
Punishment: Should a guilty party be found shaving and/or trimming or receiving a shave or trim
during the time of a full moon then the individual shall be fined an amount equal to two days wages
and ordered up to five days of imprisonment. The fine regarding the wages shall be of a total
amount no less than 1 silver coin and no greater than 20 gold coins.
Probable Cause: The shaving or trimming during a full moon law was most likely formed on the
basis of superstition in regards to werewolves. Many individuals felt that the guilty werewolf would
shave their human form clean during the time of a full moon as to throw off suspicious signs that
the individual might indeed be a werewolf.

Walking Backwards In Public:

No individual shall be allowed to walk backwards in the open public places or shops without the
penalty of prosecution.
Punishment: Should a guilty party be found walking backwards in public then the individual shall
be charged a set fine of 1 silver coin and ordered to remain in the stocks for one full day.
Probable Cause: The act of walking backwards in public most likely became a criminal offense
due to the revival of an ancient custom that expressed one’s disgust of a store or community.
Individuals who were less than pleased with such a locale would leave an area walking backwards,
as to show that they did not trust having their backs turned on such an area. Walking backwards has
thus been found to be rather offensively amongst the common folk, and such a law prevents anyone,
jesters and comics included, from walking backwards in the eyes of the public.

Albino Rabbit Possession:

It is considered an offense for any individual to knowingly or unknowingly be in the possession of a
live white or albino rabbit.
Punishment: Should an individual be found guilty of such a creature then the individual shall be
ordered a fine of 1 gold piece and receive no less than twenty lashings with a barbed ended cat o’
nine tails. The illicit creature shall also be put to death. If the guilty individual has a white beard or
moustache then the facial hair of the individual shall be shaven off and burnt at the edge of the
village.
Probable Cause: The superstitious believe that individuals with albino or white rabbits in their
possession are evil wizards using these creatures as familiars to spy on the good folk of the
community or bring them bad luck.

Armor Restriction Law:

It is considered an offense for any unauthorized individual to be wearing any form of armor or
carrying a shield within the boundaries of the community.
Punishment: Should an individual be found guilty of such a crime then the armor and/or shield of
the individual shall be immediately confiscated and turned over to the governing body of the state.
The individual then shall be taken to the village square and flogged for no less than twenty lashings.
Probable Cause: This law was devised to cut down on the entry of well armed, well equipped
marauders.

Decorated Shield Law:

No individual other than a noble, visiting knight, or authorized member of the guard or governing
body shall be caught in the possession of a shield decorated with any means of crest, logo, or
design.
Punishment: Should an individual be found guilty of carrying or in the possession of such a shield
then the individual shall be fined an amount no less than 2 gold coins. The shield shall also be
confiscated from the individual and handed over to the authority of the governing state.
Probable Cause: This law was created to distract passing, deceptive adventurers and opportunists
from trying to appear to be members of a noble blood or governing, influential order.

Fly In Soup Law:

Should a patron of an inn or tavern complain about the presence of a fly or similar insect in the
patron’s soup, broth, stew, porridge, or gruel then the food item in question shall be immediately
inspected by a member of the local authority. Should the insect be determined to be the fault of the
inn or tavern then the patron shall be paid the purchase price of the food and allowed to eat the
remainder of the food, insect included, for free. Should the patron be found guilty of placing such
an insect in their own food as an attempt to gain a free meal then the patron shall be found guilty of
criminal behavior and the below punishments shall apply.
Punishment: Patrons found guilty of applying flies or other insects into their food in an effort to
gain a free meal shall be ordered to pay a fine equal to twice the amount of the tainted food
purchased. Then the patron shall be taken outside by members of the authority and flogged for no
less than twenty times with a wooden or bamboo cane. After such flogging the patron will be barred
permanently from the inn or tavern where the tainting of the food occurred. If the patron was
staying at an inn and had personal possessions in their room then the owner of the inn may retain
the right to keep such possessions as a means of payment for the trouble caused by the patron.
Probable Cause: The fly in soup law came about as a simple means of warding off deadbeat
stragglers from trying to take advantage of the services of inns and taverns. While the law is
beneficial for the most part it has been said that villages and other communities adopting this law
have witnessed a degree of potential abuse from the fly in soup law. It seems that inn keepers have
begun to place insects in the food of wealthy patrons in hopes that the local authorities rule in the
favor of the establishment.

Four Leaf Clover Ban:

It is considered an offense for any individual to be caught searching the meadows, hills, and
countryside for four leaf clovers.
Punishment: Should an individual be found guilty of such a crime then the individual shall be
forced to spend a period of no less than two days in the stocks.
Probable Cause: While there are natural superstitious beliefs that surround this law many
authorities have imposed this law simply as a means to steer lazy villagers away from trying to rely
on the forces of luck to provide for their needs.

Imposters Of Elven Blood:

It is considered an offense for any individual to attempt to imposter elven or half elven blood.
Punishment: Should an individual be found guilty of claiming to be of elven blood when the
individual does not have an elven or half elven bloodstock then the individual shall be fined an
amount no less than 3 silver coins and confined to up to three days in the stocks.
Probable Cause: This law was most likely put into place to keep young gentlemen from trying to
woo the ladies of the villages with false claims of elven blood.

Missing Hand Law:

It is considered an offense for any individual who is not already a citizen of the governed
community to enter the community if the individual has a missing hand.
Punishment: Should an individual be found guilty of such a crime then the individual shall be
forced to pay a fine equal to 2 silver coins and shall be immediately exiled from the community.
Should the guilty individual ever be caught again within the community’s grounds then the guilty
individual shall receive an additional 5 silver coin fine for each offense and also receive no less than
fifteen lashes with a whip before being exiled again.
Probable Cause: This is a rather erratic law of nobles designed to prevent pirates, careless
craftsmen, and begging ex-soldiers from entering the community.

Orc Kissing Ban:

It is considered an offense for any individual to be caught kissing an orc or an individual with
known orcish blood.
Punishment: Should an individual be found guilty of willingly kissing an orc, half orc, or
individual known to have orcish blood in their immediate or distant family line shall be subject to
receiving twenty floggings with a whip. After which any and all live pigs within the community or
surrounding countryside shall be herded up and brought to the village fairgrounds. There the guilty
party shall be forced to kiss each one of these swine while beaten, taunted, and insulted by a
coerced, jeering crowd of fellow villagers.
Probable Cause: A law with a fairly simple cause, the orc kssing ban was created to ward villagers
from assisting in the spread of orcish and half orcish bloodlines.
Red Weapon Law:
Any form of object that may be considered a weapon by the common knowledge of the community
must be marked with either bright red paint or tied with a brilliant red ribbon.
Punishment: Should an individual be found guilty of not properly marking a weapon suitable
object and having such an object in their possession then the weapon worthy item shall be
confiscated from the individual. The individual shall also be fined an amount no less than 3 silver
coins and forced to spend two days of imprisonment.
Probable Cause: As with the armor restriction law, this law was devised to cut down on the entry
of well armed, well equipped marauders.

Six Finger/Toe Ban:

No individual having a sixth finger or toe on any hand or foot shall be allowed to enter the
community.
Punishment: Should an individual violating the above law be caught then the individual shall have
any extra (or sixth) digits caught off by an official torturer in the center of the public square. After
which the individual will be forced to spend three days in the stocks and fined an amount equal to 5
silver coins per digit removed.
Probable Cause: It is widely believed by the superstitious that having such extra digits marked an
individual as being of evil bloodline.

Star Gazing Ban:

It is considered unlawful for one to gaze up at the stars at night.
Punishment: Should a common, unauthorized individual be caught violating this law then the
individual shall be blind folded and forced to stumble through the streets for two nights as an
authorized torturer encourages members of the local community to whack the guilty individual with
wooden sticks.
Authorized individuals, such as cartographers or navigators on governed ships, are allowed to look
towards the evening stars.
Probable Cause: One of the many superstitious based laws presented in this guide, star gazing bans
come from the belief that anyone who is a “common folk” and looks to the stars at night is a gypsy
or witch.

Warts On Nose Law:

It is considered unlawful for anyone to have a wart on their nose, especially for a woman.
Punishment: Should an individual, young or old, be found with a wart on their nose then the guilty
individual shall be led to the center of the village for torture and public humiliation. During this
time the individual shall be pelted with pieces of rotten fruit and vegetables by the fellow villagers
as an assigned torturer flogs the guilty individual no less than twenty times before cutting off the
individual’s wart with a scalding, heated blade. After which the individual shall be led to the edge
of the village and permanently exiled. The individual will not be allowed to pack up their
possessions nor will they be given time to say goodbye to their family. Should the individual try to
return to the community then the guilty individual shall be flogged fifty times with a barbed whip
and then burnt at the stake in the center square.
Probable Cause: The warts on nose law is an extreme practice of superstition fuelled legal code.
Believing that such warts are a sign of a witch, superstitious folk have invented the use of this law
as a means of “purifying” their village from the influence of evil.

Bathing And Swimming Naked In Open Water:

No individual, male or female, shall be allowed to swim or bathe in a lake, pond, river, creek, or
stream while nude.
Punishment: Should an individual be found guilty of such a crime then the individual shall be
flogged with a cane for no less than twenty strikes and fined an amount no less than 2 silver coins.
Probable Cause: A modesty law, this order was placed in effect to prevent “skinny dipping” and
embarrassing situations. Individuals wishing to take a bath and do have any other effective means
must “soap up” underneath their clothing while in the open water. As such, most individuals have
resorted to wipe down baths indoors due to this law.

Birth On A Blue Moon:

It is unlawful for a pregnant woman to give birth to a living baby during the time of a blue moon.
Punishment: Should a woman be found guilty of this crime then the woman shall be stripped
naked, dragged out to the center of the town square, and burned at the stake before an audience of
witnessing villagers. A wooden stake shall be driven through the chest of the infant and this wound
be later stuffed with a mixture of wolfsbane and garlic. Should the father be identified then the
father of the child shall also be dragged to the center of the town square and burned at the stake.
The corpse of the child shall be buried at an area no less than one mile away and the carcass shall be
placed in a manner where the child is lying on their stomach, facing downward.
If a child is stillborn during the time of a full moon then the mother shall be punished with forty
lashes of a whip and the infant’s body shall be burned and destroyed in an open area no less than
one half of a mile from the edge of the village. The carcass shall not be buried but rather left in the
open for the evil beasts of the night as well as the rays of the moon to devour.
Probable Cause: This law is the cause of a superstitious belief that witches and devils are born
during a time of a blue moon.

Casual Discussion Of The Supernatural:

It is unlawful for any individual to be found casually discussing elements of a supernatural nature.
Punishment: Should an individual be caught casually discussing things of a supernatural nature to
another individual then the guilty individual shall be fined an amount equal to 5 copper coins and
required to spend one day in the stocks. Should the individual be found guilty of this crime more
than five different times then on the sixth time the individual shall be fined an amount equal to 5
silver coins and have half of their tongue cut off by an authorized torturer. Should the individual be
caught again after the sixth time then the individual shall be stripped naked, dragged to the center of
town, tied up, gagged, and beaten to death with a flail.
Probable Cause: Though rather harsh this law has been passed by many a noble who wished to end
the elements of casual witchery, spell craft, and fortune telling in their communities.

Chamber Pot Restriction Law:

No patron of an inn shall be allowed to use a provided chamber pot more than two times between
dusk till dawn.
Punishment: Should it be determined, as by analysis of content, that an individual has used a
chamber pot more than twice during the set time then the individual shall be required to pay a fine
equal to no less than 1 silver coin for each time determined that the individual used the chamber pot
beyond the allowed two times.
Probable Cause: A rather harsh and often abused law, this regulation was entered into the books of
law as a means of cutting down on excessive drinking and carousing. There are no truthful means of
judging usage accurately and it is believed that inn owners and corrupt individuals abuse this law as
a means of pocketing extra coinage from wealthy or worrisome patrons.

Cosmetic Restriction Law:

No woman of common villager status shall be permitted to beautify herself with cosmetics.
Punishment: Shall a woman of lowly and unimportant status be found wearing makeup then the
woman shall have her face cut up with a hot blade by the skillful hands of an authorized torturer.
The woman or her family shall then be responsible for paying the torturer a sum no less than 3
silver coins for the torturer’s time and trouble.
Probable Cause: A modesty law designed to keep the lower caste from appearing more attractive
than the wealthier, upper class.

Gambling With Cards:

It is unlawful for any individual to be caught using any form of cards for the purpose of gambling.
Punishment: Should an individual be found guilty playing a game of cards then the individual shall

party shall have their eyes plucked by an authorized torturer. The torturer shall then stuff burning
coals into the empty sockets before sewing the wounds shut. The guilty party or their family shall
also be responsible for paying the torturer an amount no less than 1 gold coin for the torturer’s time
and trouble. Should the guilty individual or family members be unable to pay then the guilty party
shall be stripped of all clothing and carried possessions as a means of proper payment, regardless of
the total value of such possessions.
Probable Cause: This law was designed to prevent loafers and petty thieves from exploiting the
unfavorable situations of truly disabled beggars.

Inappropriate Sneezing:
It is unlawful for an individual of common or undetermined caste to be caught sneezing within the
presence of a noble, member of the upper aristocracy, or of high official position.
Punishment: Should such an individual be caught in this act then a torturer shall be instructed to
stuff burning hot coals into the individual’s nostrils. After which the individual shall be instructed to
pay the torturer a sum of 2 silver coins for the torturer’s time and trouble.
Probable Cause: This law was designed to enforce politeness and proper respect amongst all
commoners, even under the worst cases of illness.

Mixed Drink Law:

It is unlawful for any individual to serve an alcoholic beverage that has been mixed with other
alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages and substances.
Punishment: If an individual is caught serving such a beverage then the individual is required to

Probable Cause: This law was brought into fabrication as a means of preventing the opportunity
for shady bartenders to poison the drinks of wealthy clients.

Speaking And Yelling From Overhead Windows:

It is unlawful for any unauthorized individual to be caught speaking or yelling from an overhead
window.
Punishment: Should an individual be caught speaking or yelling from the opening of an overhead
window then the individual shall be fined an amount equal to 5 copper coins per incident. If an
accident or dangerous distraction occurs in the street as a result of the individual talking or yelling
from the overhead window above then the individual shall also be required to pay for all damages
incurred in the street or area below.
Probable Cause: This law came into effect as a means of keeping potentially hazardous
distractions from bothering passing travellers and animals.
Stillborn On A New Moon:
It is unlawful for a pregnant woman to give birth to a stillborn baby during the time of a new moon.
Punishment: Should a woman be found guilty of this crime then the woman shall be stripped
naked, dragged out to the center of the town square, and burned at the stake before an audience of
witnessing villagers. The stillborn child shall then be buried at the edge of the village.
Probable Cause: This law is the cause of a superstitious belief that the new moon kills the babies
of witches.

Tossing Or Throwing Of Hard Fruits And Vegetables:

It is unlawful for any individual to throw or toss a fruit or vegetable that is not in a softened, rotten
state.
Punishment: Should an individual be caught committing this crime then the individual shall pay a

aims while a jeering crowd was hurling fruits and vegetables at a humiliated criminal.

Bloodstock Restriction:
It is unlawful for anyone to prepare a soup, stew, broth, or other similar recipe with bloodstock that
was not obtained from a domestic livestock source.
Punishment: Any individual found guilty of this crime shall be fined 5 silver coins and required to

soups and broths made from the blood of rats and other foul, sickly creatures.

Dirty Faces Law:

It is unlawful for any individual, citizen or commoner, to be caught with a dirty face in public.
Punishment: Any individual caught with a dirty face shall have mud or sewage ground violently
into their face before being sent to the stocks for three days.

community.

Dirty Sheath Law:

It is unlawful for the sheath of any sword, dagger, or knife of sufficient size to be found in soiled or
dirty condition when such a sheath is located within the territory of the community.
Punishment: Any sheath found to be soiled or dirty shall be subject to destruction. The weapon of
such a sheath shall also be confiscated and destroyed or kept by the ruling government. The owner
of the sheath and weapon is likewise expected to pay a fine of 5 silver coins. Should the sheath or
weapon be soiled from blood or gore then the owner is expected to pay a fine of 2 gold coins
instead.
Probable Cause: As weapons requiring a sheath are used in slaughter and bloodshed then it is
believed that these weapons (and hence their sheaths) could carry the diseases of foul monsters.

Free Bleeder Law:

It is unlawful for a free bleeder to be found within the territory of the community.
Punishment: Should an individual within the territory of the community be or become a free
bleeder then the individual shall be immediately exiled. Should the individual attempt to return then

Probable Cause: It is believed by the superstitious folk that the presence or touch of free bleeders
cause miscarriages and a host of diseases.

Garlic And Wound Law:

Any wound that causes bleeding must be treated with garlic.
Punishment: Should an individual’s wound be found untreated with garlic then the individual shall
be hung upside down from a tree until the blood from the wound stops pouring.
Probable Cause: It is believed by the superstitious folk that the presence of such untreated blood
invites the presence of vampires.

Horse Burial Law:

It is unlawful for a horse to be buried in a manner other than on their side.
Punishment: Should a horse be buried feet down or feet up then the individual responsible for such
a burial shall be sentenced to a full two years of imprisonment and/or hard labor.
Probable Cause: It is believed by the superstitious that horses buried in a manner other than on
their side causes the carcasses of these creatures to rise from the grave as nightmares.

Newt Law:
It is unlawful for any individual to be in possession of a live or dead newt.
Punishment: Upon discovery of such possession the guilty party shall be subject to no less than
fifty lashes with a whip.

No Whistling Law:
It is unlawful for any individual other than a member of the respectful aristocracy or nobility to be
caught whistling in public.
Punishment: Upon discovery of such an act the guilty party shall be struck an amount no less than
twenty times with a cane.
Probable Cause: It is believed that whistling is another outlet that the poor and uneducated use to
make an unnecessary nuisance of themselves.

Orcish Blood Ban:

It is unlawful for any individual with orcish blood, whether they be whole orc or merely part orc, to
be found within the territory of the community.
Punishment: Upon discovery of such an individual the guilty party shall be immediately put to
death.
Probable Cause: This is a fairly common law devised to keep the breeding of orcish blood down.

It is unlawful for any individual to be caught building an open, outdoor fire for the purpose to cook
foods or for warmth when such a fire is within half a mile of a village inn or other dwelling of
lodging .
Punishment: Upon discovery of this crime all gathered around the fire shall have buckets of cold
water dumped upon their hands before being put into the stocks for a duration of two days.

from the profits of local inns and taverns.

Nightmare Restriction Law:

Any non-citizen who admits to having bad dreams shall not be permitted to sleep at an inn or any
place of lodging within the territory of the community.
Punishment: Any individual who admits to such dreams and is not a citizen shall be required to
sleep outside of the territory of the community. Should such an individual be found sneaking into
the village afterwards for the purpose of gaining a peaceful rest shall be subject to four constant
days and nights of horrid, skillful torture.

It is unlawful for any male to be caught wearing a pink garment or a considerable amount of pink as
an additional coloration of their garment.
Punishment: Any male, man or boy, caught wearing pink shall be forced to don a lacy frock in the
center of the village for the purposes of public humiliation. The individual shall then be forced to
repeat this humiliation for one hour each for the next twelve days.
Probable Cause: Color association and gender identity are considered to be extremely important
features of a stable society by some communities.

Boat Or Raft Requirement Law:

It is required that every family owns a boat or raft of size adequate enough to hold all the members
of the family household.
Punishment: Any family found without such ownership shall be required to purchase such an item
within a span of no greater than one year. Failure to do so shall prompt the ruling government to
exile the family. After which the remaining property of the exiled family shall be turned over to the
government.
Probable Cause: This law came into effect in communities where flooding was quite common or
travel across bodies of water was considered a common necessity.

Broken Hammer Burial:

Upon breaking a hammer or handle of hammer, whether the hammer be used for warfare or as a
tool, it is required that one immediately dig a hole in the ground no less than two feet deep and bury
the broken hammer.
Punishment: Any individual violating this requirement shall be fined an amount equal to twice the
value of such a hammer, brand new.
Probable Cause: It is considered that the presence of an unburied, broken hammer brings about
bad luck to blacksmiths.

Display Of Gargoyles:
It is unlawful for any individual or establishment to display a stone gargoyle or similar statuette on
or in a building.
Punishment: Any individual caught in such an act shall be fined 5 gold coins per offense and
ordered to remove the offensive gargoyle or statuette within a time period of 3 days. Failure to do
so shall result in the seizure and possession or demolition of the building at the discretion of the
ruling government.
Probable Cause: While such decorations were originally intended to keep away monsters and evil
spirits many of the superstitious have come to believe that these sculptures turn into real gargoyles
at night.

Kissing A Fish Or Frog:

It is unlawful for any individual to be caught kissing a fish or a frog.
Punishment: Any individual caught in such an act shall be fined 5 copper coins and sent to the
stocks for two days.
Probable Cause: Many superstitious individuals believed that if a woman kissed a frog the frog
would turn into a prince. Likewise, it was also believed that if a lonely gentleman kissed a fish then
the fish would turn into a beautiful mermaid. Both acts were considered to be unclean by the
villagers with better common sense.

Mismatched Shoe And Boot Law:

It is unlawful for any individual to be caught wearing mismatched shoes and boots.
Punishment: Any individual caught in such an act shall have their footwear seized permanently by
the ruling government and the individual shall be sent to the stocks for two days.
Probable Cause: It is believed that the wearing of mismatched footwear promotes ignorance,
foolishness, and crippling amongst the villagers that walk the same roads as the guilty individual.

Patched Sack And Bag Law:

It is unlawful for any individual to be caught carrying around or in the possession of a sack, bag, or
purse that has been patched.
Punishment: Any individual caught with an item of such violation shall be forced to pay a fine of 3
copper coins and must give up the sack, bag, or purse for the authorized destruction as deemed
needed by the state. Should an individual have two or more prior offenses to this law then all of the
contents of the container in violation shall be turned over as property of the ruling government. This
added penalty is in addition to the standard punishments.
Probable Cause: This law was brought into effect due to the fact that many people believed that a
patched sack was bad luck and promoted the evil intentions of thieves.

Bathing In City Fountains:

It is unlawful to be caught bathing in city fountains.
Punishment:
Any individual caught bathing in the city fountains shall be beaten 10 times with a cane , fined an
amount equal to 5 copper coins, and forced to spend one full day in the stocks. During the time in
the stocks it is encouraged that all villagers dump out their bath water on the criminal of this
offense.
Probable Cause:
This law is actually fairly reasonable. As such fountains are for decorative purposes, it would be
considered quite unsightly, potentially obscene, and reasonably unsanitary for anyone to be bathing
in such fountains.

Bathing Upstream:
It is unlawful to be caught bathing upstream from the community.
Punishment:
Any individual caught bathing upstream shall be fined a sum equal to 2 silver coins and imprisoned
for two weeks.
Probable Cause:
This law is actually quite reasonable due to sanitary and water purity purposes.

Below Ground Ownership:

With the exception of the contents of one’s well or a below ground structure such as dungeon or
cellar, an individual does not own any portion of property that is 10 feet below the surface of their
property’s top soil. Nobles, government properties, and the members of the upper social castes are
immune to this law.
Punishment:
Any individual outwardly attempting to challenge this order shall be fined an amount equal to 1
copper coin per square foot of property owned and sentenced to five weeks of imprisonment.
Probable Cause:
This law came into effect to protect the interests of mines, which often ran below the properties of
the community.

Bowman Before Marriage Law:

It is required that any male of appropriate age be fully trained of using a short bow, long bow, or
crossbow before they are allowed to marry and have a family. Likewise the individual shall be
required to prove such abilities before they are allowed to have their wedding ceremony.
Punishment:
Any suitable male who fails to gain and prove such abilities shall not be considered to be married
until they do so. Should such an individual attempt to wed then the male shall be subject to a 3
silver coin fine, ten lashings, and two days in the stocks. Should a male be found already married
without such training then the marriage shall be considered null and void and the male shall be
fined 5 silver coins, receive 20 lashings, and be required to spend five days in the stocks. The
violating male’s wife shall be forced to walk backwards through town for two days while the
citizens are encouraged to trip her.
In the event that the man in violation was married before becoming a citizen of the community then
the man will be allowed to prove such bowman abilities with a reasonable time of 120 days. Should
the married man do so then there will be no fine and his marriage shall be considered valid. Should
the married man be incapable of displaying such ability with the bow then the previous punishments
apply.
Probable Cause:
This law came into effect as a means of making sure every able bodied male was capable of using a
bow should the community come under attack.

Dumping Out A Chamber Pot On A Holiday:

It is illegal to dump out a chamber pot on a holiday. Inns, Individuals of higher social caste or
nobility are not subject to this law.
Punishment:
Anyone found guilty of this crime shall have the contents of the gutter or sewer scooped up with
their chamber pot and dumped on their heads. The individual shall then be fined a sum of 5 copper
coins and sent to spend 1 full day in the stocks.
Probable Cause:
While it is perfectly fine for the wealthy to dump out their chamber pots at any given time, it is
considered rude and unsightly for a peasant to do as such during the time of holiday celebration.

Dumping Of A Chamber Pot Or Wash Water Upstream:

It is unlawful to be caught dumping out the contents of their wash water or chamber pot upstream of
the community.
Punishment:
Any individual caught bathing upstream shall be fined a sum equal to 3 silver coins, beaten with a
whip, rod, or cane for 20 lashings, and imprisoned for four weeks.
Probable Cause:
As with the bathing upstream law, this law is actually quite reasonable due to sanitary and water
purity purposes.

Five Women Or More Under One Roof Law:

It is considered illegal for five or more women of
courting age or older to live underneath one roof,
unless such women are the guests of an inn or
other such establishment and do not remain as
guests for a period of more than five days. The
houses, colleges, and dwellings of nobility and
upper caste citizens are not subject to this law.
Punishment:
Any women caught dwelling under a single roof
in which this law has been violated shall be
sentenced to a 3 copper coin fine, whipped for
five lashes, and/or forced to walk up and down
the streets for a period of two days while wearing
a sign that indicates the woman as being a
prostitute.
Probable Cause:
This law came into effect as a means of
discouraging the presence of flop houses.
Fletcher Inspection Law:
It is required that anyone in the trade of a
fletcher or the merchant of such goods shall
present no less than one dozen of each variety of
their items created or sold to the local
government each month for inspection. The
government shall keep these items indefinitely.
Punishment:
Any fletcher or merchant of bolts, arrows, and
similar ammunition who is found to be in
violation of this law shall be required to pay a
sum of 5 silver coins for every month that this
individual failed to provide such goods in full for
inspection. Should the fine exceed 50 silver
coins then the fletcher or merchant shall also be
subject to two full weeks of imprisonment.
Probable Cause:
This law came into effect as a means of making
sure about the quality of various arrows, bolts,
and similar ammunition that were sold to the
community (or within the community). As these
items are particularly needed during wartime or
defense against raids it is highly important that
such items are of superior quality.
Hanging Clothes On A Holiday:
It is illegal to hang out one’s clothes to dry on a
holiday.
Punishment:
Anyone found guilty of this crime shall have
their clothing confiscated and shall be forced to
walk the streets of the town naked while
villagers are encouraged to throw rotten bits of
fruit and vegetables on the guilty party.
Probable Cause:
In addition to showing a form of physical labor
on a holiday, which is normally deemed as being
offensive, it is considered unsightly to hang out
one’s drying clothes during such a time as this
action spoils the visual scenery of any traditional
holiday décor.
Riding A Horse Or Mule Up A Steep
Hill:
It is illegal for anyone to ride a horse or other
beast of burden when the animal is traveling up a
steep hill. This law does not apply to individuals
in the military or members of the noble or upper
castes.
Punishment:
Anyone found guilty of this crime shall have the
animal and any saddle, cart, wagon, or goods
attached to the animal or carried by the animal
confiscated.
Probable Cause:
This law came about as being both an animal
protection law.
Soap And Bathing Law:
It is illegal for anyone, poor or rich, to be caught
bathing without soap.
Punishment:
Anyone found guilty of this crime shall be fined
a sum equal to 3 copper coins.
Probable Cause:
The soap and bathing law came about as a
general cleanliness law.
Stepping On A Coin Law:
It is illegal to step on any coin, accidentally or
intentionally, when the coin bears the face or
symbolic representation of a governing noble.
Punishment:
Anyone found guilty of this crime shall be
stripped of any worthy goods and material
wealth that they are carrying on their body.
Then, after such, the individual is required to lay
naked on the street for two hours while passing
villagers are encouraged to walk over them.
Probable Cause:
As most currency bears the emblems, symbols,
or likenesses of the nobility, stepping on or
walking across such currency is considered to be
quite shameful.
Bad Joke Law:
It is unlawful for anyone to tell a joke that is
lacking in quality of humor. If the joke is
difficult for the listening audience to understand
or such listeners fail to produce a laugh, then the
teller of such a joke is found in violation of this
law.
Punishment:
Anyone who tells a bad joke shall have one of
their teeth yanked out by the torturer, starting
with an eye tooth. Should the violator be found
utterly lacking in teeth, then the guilty party’s
head shall be removed via the blade of the
guillotine.
Probable Cause:
It is said that this law first appeared in a kingdom
that somehow fell into the ruling hands of a
former court jest. Being a rather jealous ruler
who had a high degree of standards regarding the
trade of comedy, the jest was often angered that
the commoners found the art of jokes petty
enough to be used casually and unskillfully in
their attempts to pass the time with one another.
As such, it became illegal to tell a bad joke, and
anyone found guilty of this violation would
certainly suffer the consequences. Other lands
since have adopted this law, mostly due to the
fact that it cuts down on idling about with
pointless humor when the unwashed masses
should be otherwise concentrating on their duties
and work.
Burning Of Hemlock:
It is unlawful for anyone to burn any portion of a
hemlock tree, no matter if the tree or portion of
such tree is alive or dead. This includes even the
outer bark, twigs, and leaves of the hemlock tree.
Punishment:
Anyone found guilty of a first offense of burning
hemlock shall be forced to pay the local torturer
a sum of 5 silver coins. In return for such
payment the torturer shall stuff the guilty party’s
mouth full of hot, burning wooden coals. The
guilty party shall be required to keep their mouth
shut long enough for the coals to extinguish
before spitting them out. Should it be discovered
that the burning of the hemlock is the guilty
party’s second offense then the guilty party shall
be tied to a dead tree (most commonly elm, oak,
or maple), and set fire along with the tree. The
tying shall be done with a form of nonflammable
or burnable restraint, such as an iron
chain or alchemically treated twine or rope.
Probable Cause:
Hemlock is considered to be a tree of extreme
supernatural powers and properties. Whether
such properties are of good or evil is of no
matter, it is deemed in many cultures that one
should not burn such wood for fear of unleashing
unknown magic.
Ceremonial Dancing And Nudity
Before Dusk:
It is unlawful and contrary to the betterment of
culture for anyone to be found dancing naked as
part of a ceremonial rite before dusk.
Punishment:
Anyone found guilty of this crime shall be
covered in wild honey and strapped down next to
an anthill. There they shall remain for a total
duration of one day’s time. If it is seen that the
individual has not suffered properly during this
time then it shall be ordered that the local
torturer, executioner, or caption of the guard to
stomp the individual in the stomach at least three
or four times before removing the straps.
Probable Cause:
In addition to this being part of a complex series
of cultural rites, such exposure of one’s nude
body in broad day light, even afternoon day
light, is considered to be generally obscene and
offensive.
Club Possession Law:
It is illegal for anyone, regardless of class, caste,
or profession, to be found in the possession of a
fashioned or semi-fashioned club of wood, bone,
or other materials. Likewise it is unlawful for
such an individual to be found in immediate
possession of an un-fashioned club of such
materials as stated above.
Punishment:
Anyone found guilty of having or carrying
around a club shall be flogged for a total of 20
lashes and then fined an amount of 1sp.
Likewise, their “club” (whether a true weapon or
not) shall be taken away from the individual.
Probable Cause:
In addition to finding clubs to be crude, uncouth
weapons lacking in grace, the club allows the
villagers to make and hide immediate weapons
of formidable potential. As such, governments
who wish to keep a rather tight regulation and
eye on what weapons their citizens are carrying
are quick to outlaw the presence of homemade
clubs.
Domesticating A Shrew:
It is considered to be illegal for anyone to
attempt to tame, or domesticate, a shrew.
Punishment:
Anyone found guilty of this offense shall have
their fingers pricked with rusty pins or sewing
needles and their knuckles smashed with the
blow of a wooden mallet. Afterwards, the guilty
party shall pay a sum of 3 copper coins for all
efforts spent.
Probable Cause:
Shrews, known to be aggressive, spiteful little
critters, are impossible it seems to tame. As such,
many foolish villagers sometimes take it upon
their selves to try to tame a shrew, as to prove
that the villager has some special form of talent.
As such an effort is quite foolish, it seems that
the laws of the land have provided a punishment
worthy of proving that such senseless tasks as
this prove to be painful in the end.
Dozing Off In Public:
It is illegal for anyone, regardless of reasons, to
doze off in a public place.
Punishment:
Anyone found guilty of this crime shall be
prodded with a red hot poker. A fine of 5 copper
coins shall also be required in an effort to
reimburse the time and trouble it took to heat up
the poking rod.
Probable Cause:
Dozing off in public, whether drunk, tired, or
bored of conversation, is considered to be rude
and utterly lacking of manners. Naturally this
law does not apply to persons of higher social
caste or someone actually sleeping in an area
where relaxation is meant to take place, such as
an inn.
Green Wagon And Cart Law:
It is considered unlawful for anyone to be in the
possession of a wagon or cart that has been
painted green.
Punishment:
Anyone found guilty of such a possession shall
be fined a sum of 2 gold coins for a wagon or 1
gold coin for the cart. Likewise, the cart or
wagon shall be taken from the former owner’s
possession and turned over to the ruling state,
who shall repaint the wagon or cart.
Probable Cause:
A rather shortsighted bit of legal reasoning, it is
believed that many cultures adopted this law on
the basis that it was suspected that individuals
who painted their carts and wagons green were
really roadway bandits. Such bandits, it seems,
could camouflage their wagons and carts in the
woods while waiting to commit a bit of robbery
on a passing merchant and then later use such
wheeled vessels to ship ill gained loot back and
forth for sale in the villages. The likelihood of
such a possible truth is quite ridiculous, for the
natural tone of the wagon or cart’s wood would
provide better camouflage than green paint.
Likewise, most bandits traveled quickly and
lightly, and would thus take the treasure that was
the smallest yet wealthiest, aka jewelry and
gems, and leave most of the rest behind. With
the untrusting and suspicious, however, such
logic is naturally lost. As such, the green wagon
and cart law remains on the books in at least a
few lands.
Leather, Hides, And Summer:
It is unlawful for any common class individual to
be found wearing hides or leather garments other
than belts or footwear during the middle to end
of summer.
Punishment:
Whoever is found guilty of this offense shall be
ordered to pay a monetary fine of 3 silver coins
and have their violating leather or hides
confiscated. Likewise, should it be found that the
individual has broken this law two or more times
prior, then the individual shall have their bodies
dunked into a pot of boiling oil.
Probable Cause:
It is highly regarded that the wearing of leather
or hide garments and armor in the summer
months produces an undesirable amount of sweat
and stench, causing others around the violating
party to become rightfully offended. The noble
castes and the members of the guard, however,
are immune to this law as their duties require the
use of such leather and it is assumed that they
bathe more often.
Ownership Of A Stray Horse:
It is unlawful for anyone to claim the ownership
of a horse, mule, or similar beast of burden that
was previously declared as being “stray” or
“wild”.
Punishment:
Who so ever is found guilty of such an offense
shall be beaten with a cane for no more than 40
strikes and no less than 25 strikes. Afterwards,
the horse shall be taken from the guilty person’s
possession and handed over to the ruling
authority.
Probable Cause:
This law came into effect to cut down on horse
theft, particularly in the form of violent roadway
robbery. Many of such robbers often tried to
claim that their recent acquisition of such a new,
strange horse was due to the fact that the robber
had “the good fortune of finding a stray and
friendly horse walking alongside the road”.
Registry Of The Diseased:
All lepers and other sufferers of foul and
unsightly illnesses are required to register their
name and sickness at the local temples.
Punishment:
Anyone found guilty of not identifying their
selves and the nature of their illness shall be
stoned at a safe distance and their corpses burnt
to prevent the spread of infection.
Probable Cause:
This is a fairly common form of law actually.
Harsh, yes, but common.
Spilling Mead In Taverns:
It is considered unlawful for anyone to spill their
mead, whether accidental or otherwise, in a
tavern or inn.
Punishment:
Anyone found guilty of this offense shall be held
by a member of the guard as all patrons are
encouraged to slap, kick, and otherwise beat the
guilty individual. Then, as a token of the guilty
person’s appreciation for having their wrong so
gratuitously righted by such concerned citizens,
the guilty person shall pay an amount no less
than 1 copper coin to all patrons involved in the
manner of correcting. The guard who was
responsible for all of the holding back of the
guilty party shall receive a payment from the
guilty party of no less than 1 silver coin.
Probable Cause:
Mead, in many lands, is a regal and often hard to
come by beverage. For those who risk stinging in
their daily task of retrieving honey for the
production of this fine drink, the spilling of mead
is a grave insult.
Spitting In Wells:
It is considered unlawful for anyone to be found
spitting in a well.
Punishment:
Anyone found guilty of this offense shall be
subjected to having all the members of the
community spit upon their person within the
limits of the community’s square, center, or
fairgrounds. After which, the guilty party shall
be given the assignment of collecting water for a
local noble without pay.
Probable Cause:
This law came into effect as a means of keeping
individuals from polluting the water of wells.
Sword Wielder’s Law:
It is considered unlawful for anyone of a lower,
unworthy caste system to be found wielding a
sword.
Punishment:
Anyone found guilty of this offense shall be
required to pay a fine of 5sp and shall be
subjected to being beaten across the back 10
times with the flat edge of the sword in question.
Then the unworthy wielder shall lose possession
of the sword.
Probable Cause:
The sword, a graceful, majestic weapon, is
considered to be a weapon worthy of wielding by
the upper caste systems only. As such, should
anyone deemed unworthy by the ruling system
be caught wielding a sword then the guilty
individual shall be subject to proper judgement
and punishment.
Ten Window Limit:
It is considered to be unlawful to own a dwelling
with more than a total of ten windows. This law
is waived for dwellings, fortifications, and
buildings of those who are of high position
and/or noble blood.
Punishment:
Anyone found guilty of having such a dwelling
shall lose the property. Likewise, should the
governing state choose then the dwelling shall be
burned to the ground or otherwise demolished.
Probable Cause:
As the presence of windows is a sign of wealth,
particularly the presence of glass windows, a
dwelling of eleven or more windows is
considered to be a symbol of shameless vanity.
Likewise, it is considered to be an uncouth
temptation for thieves to have so many “alternate
entrances” to one’s dwelling.
Tossing Coins Into Wells:
It is considered to be unlawful for anyone to be
found tossing a coin into a well.
Punishment:
The guilty party shall be required to give up any
degree of wealth in coin or jewelry that is on
their person. Should the guilty party have no
such wealth beyond the coin that was tossed into
the well, then the guilty person shall be stripped
naked and forced to spend one day in the stocks
while remaining in such embarrassing nudity.
Probable Cause:
This law came about as a measure to prevent
individuals from fouling up the water of wells by
tossing in their dirty coins and other pocket
possessions. Likewise, the law also prevents the
accidental drowning deaths of beggars and
drunks who lower each other into the well in an
attempt to scrape up any coin that they can reach
from the bottom of the well.
Trimmed Fingernail Law:
It is considered unlawful for anyone to be found
having fingernails that are excessively long,
sharp, jagged, and otherwise not kept in good
check.
Punishment:
Anyone found guilty of this offense shall be
required to pay a fine of 2sp and are forced to
allow the local torturer to trim down the guilty
party’s fingernails in a suitable manner that the
torturer finds to be fit. In some cultures it is
deemed acceptable for a woman’s fingernails to
be long.
Probable Cause:
It is believed that long, jagged, or otherwise
unkempt fingernails pose as a makeshift weapon
that the guilty party can use on the unsuspecting.
Trimmed Toenail Law:
It is considered unlawful for anyone to be found
having toenails that are excessively long, sharp,
jagged, and otherwise not kept in good check.
Punishment:
Anyone found guilty of this offense shall be
required to pay a fine of 2sp and are forced to
allow the local torturer to trim down the guilty
party’s toenails in a suitable manner that the
torturer finds to be fit.
Probable Cause:
In addition to preventing infection and poor care
of one’s feet, there have been many a bedfellow,
spouse and harlot alike, who have complained of
cuts on their legs caused by a partner’s dirty,
untrimmed toenails moving about.
Animal healing law
It is considered to be unlawful and a violation
of nature for any cleric, healer, apothecary,
physician, barber, herbalist, druid, bard, or
other individual in possession of the means to
treat and heal to administer their art on an animal.
Punishment: Any individual found guilty of
violating this law shall be thrown into a small
cell or pit lined with slick, smooth walls. A
diverse manner of diseased rodents and debris
loving insects shall be dumped into the cell or
pit that the guilty party shares. The guilty shall
be left within such confines for a matter of no
less than five days. During this time the guilty
shall be provided with no means of clean water
or food.
Probable Cause: It is believed in many
“naturalistic” cultures that the healing of animals
is denying the cycle of nature and creating
an abomination of the beast.
Black Curtain Law
It is considered unlawful to hang up black curtains
except during a time of mourning.
Punishment: Anyone found guilty of violating
this law shall have the offending curtains confiscated
and burnt. Then the guilty party shall
be expected to pay a fine of 3 silver coins for
each curtain confiscated and destroyed. Should
the party be unable to pay then the guilty party
shall receive five lashes with a cane or whip
for each silver coin that the guilty party cannot
produce.
Probable Cause: It is believed in some ruling
lands that the hanging of black curtains outside
the manners of mourning is an open invitation
or wish for the plagued hand of death.
Broom And Cornfield Law
Anyone found guilty of carrying a broom into
a cornfield shall be considered guilty of harboring
the interests of witches and wicked
spell casters.
Punishment: Anyone found guilty of this offense
shall be immediately arrested and burned
at the stake.
Probable Cause: This law is typically found
in lands where superstition and violent distrust
towards magic and spell casters is common.
Dirty Barber Law
It is considered to be most uncouth and unlawful
for a barber to keep his shop and equipment
in a state of untidiness.
Punishment: Any barber found guilty of keeping
his/her shop and equipment in a state of
unclean filthiness shall be charged a fine of no
less than 3 silver coins and no greater than 2
gold coins. Likewise, should it be determined
by the order of memory or recorded knowledge
that this same barber in question has been
guilty of the same or similar offense at least
two times in the past then the guilty barber
shall be subject to additional punishments.
Such punishments typically include (but may
not be entirely limited to) being tied up with
raw, rough hide while an experienced torturer
shaves every portion of the barber’s body with
a filthy, dull, and quite rusty blade. Should
blood occur during this long, laboring process
then such wounds shall be treated with a combination
of spit, salt, and vinegar. Should lemons
be available, then the juice of this fruit
shall be added to the coating of such wounds.
Probable Cause: Barbers, alongside apothecaries
and herbalists, are a primary resource of
healing and general treatment of sickness for
the village commoners. To keep one’s shop,
equipment, and supplies in a filthy is a sure
invitation of disease, filth, and pestilence.
Discreet Peeing Law
It is considered to be unlawful for any individual,
male or female, to relieve their bladder in a
location or manner that is less than private and
discreet.
Punishment: Any individual found guilty of
this crime shall be fined a monetary amount of
no less than 2 silver coins and forced to spend
a total of three days in the stocks. Should it be
determined that the individual has been found
guilty of this crime at least three other times in
the past then the guilty individual shall have
their undergarments filled with red hot coals.
Probable Cause: This is a standard form of
decency law.
Dragon Hide Possession
Law
It is considered highly unlawful and punishable
by painful, torturous execution for any individual,
villager, visitor, or otherwise, to be caught
in the possession of a slain dragon’s hide.
Punishment: Anyone found to be in the possession
of a slain dragon’s hide shall be immediately
captured by the guard of the ruling
land. The guilty individual shall be brought to
a speedy execution, with time of capture and
time of execution spanning a distance of no
greater than five days. During the time that the
captured individual awaits execution the guilty
party shall be denied all form of water or nourishment.
Likewise, the party shall be stripped
completely naked, all carried possessions
transferred over to the possession of the ruling
government, and the guilty party shall be
placed in the most uncomfortable, damp, disease
ridden form of confinement available.
Upon the execution the guilty party shall be
presented naked before a crowd of community
members. Then, bound and gagged, the guilty
party shall be skinned alive and allowed to
hang by their wrists until their blood stops
flowing and the passing birds of prey take an
interest in the guilty party’s entrails.
Probable Cause: Many cultures fear dragons
and have learned that any individual who
boldly possesses the hide of a slain dragon is
asking for retribution from any form of
neighboring wyrm. As these great, majestic
creatures seldom tend to take careful aim, innocent
folks and establishments near the guilty
party usually share in on the dragon’s punishment.
Harlots And Bathing
It is considered unlawful for a harlot to bathe
in the same body of water as used for the bathing
purposes of a common villager.
Punishment: Any harlot found guilty of this
crime shall be immediately stripped of any
clothing and worthy possessions that she is
carrying upon her body. The ruling government
shall then be the sole owner of such
clothing and goods. Upon such removal of belongings
the harlot shall be pushed into a bath
of hot, steaming tar.
Probable Cause: Harlots and prostitutes are
considered to be unclean of both spirit and
body. To bath in the same waters as the good
folk of the community is considered to be not
only shameful but also an evil intention of the
harlot to spread her sin and filth upon the bodies
and into the hearts of others.
Honorable Conner Law
It is considered to be unlawful for a conner to
use their position in society and rank for the
purpose of simply gaining free drinks at an inn
or tavern.
Punishment: Any conner found guilty of this
offense shall be ordered to compensate any and
all establishments their degree of profits lost
through such exploitation. The conner shall
then have his or her position immediately revoked
and shall be on the receiving end of
forty lashes.
Probable Cause: It was discovered by many
ruling lands that their official conners of ales,
wines, beers, ciders, meads, and distilled spirits
were using their position to demand several
rounds of free drinks at inns and taverns.
Infectious Coughing Law
It is considered unlawful for anyone to be
found coughing in the presence of another villager
if such an individual happens to be found
to be genuinely sick or reasonably believed to
be suffering from any form of disease, illness,
or communicable ailment, whether deemed
mild, moderate, or severe.
Punishment: Any individual, whether villager,
visitor, or otherwise found guilty of infectious
coughing within the limits of the community
shall have their mouth pried open and soapy
water poured down their throats until they
vomit with a great display of vigor. The guilty
party shall then be required to clean up their
own mess. This act of punishment shall be carried
out by the local torturer or executioner and
a fine of 2 silver coins shall likewise be enforced
and expected for the trouble presented
upon the state by the burden of carrying out
such tasks. Should the guilty party be unable to
pay for such worthy degrees of punishment
and redeeming then the guilty party shall be
placed, naked, within the stocks for a total duration
of two days. In order to ensure that the
guilty party does not continue to infest the fine
community with their disgusting, diseaseridden
cough the guilty party’s mouth shall be
gagged with a section of blue dyed cloth.
Probable Cause: It is believed by a few less
tolerant cultures that coughing is a willful act
of a sickened person to spread the evils of disease
and infection. The guilty cough may be
deemed unlawful if released in public as well
as in a home shared with other family members.
Kissing A Harlot

harlot on the lips.

and physical will, the local torturer shall be
ordered the task of inserting a manner of pins,
needles, and nails into the subject’s lips. The
total number of such objects being no less than
one half a dozen and no greater than a baker’s
dozen. Then, upon such insertions, the torturer
shall use thick cord to stitch the guilty individual’s
lips together. The guilty party shall remain
in such a situation for a duration of time
no less than two days, after which the guilty
party shall be released from their torture and
the stitching, pins, needles, and/or nails removed.
In order to compensate for the torturer’s
time and trouble as well as the satisfaction
of the ruling state’s upkeep, the guilty
party shall be fined an amount no less than 4
silver coins and no greater than 10 gold coins.
The exact monetary degree of this fine shall be
determined upon examination of the guilty
party’s status of wealth and social standing.
Should the guilty party be unable to pay such a
fine then the guilty party shall be forced to reimburse
the governing body through enforced
labor. The duration of such enforced labor
shall be equal to one day per one silver coin
owed.
Probable Cause: It is believed that the kissing
of a harlot is an unclean act that ensures that
the guilty individual will become the bearer of
foul germs and sinful illnesses. Likewise,
while it is perfectly acceptable to engage in
any other form of physical passion with a harlot
one is considered to be mocking the virtues
of true love and unity by kissing a harlot or
prostitute on the lips.

on their first and second offense. Any individual
found guilty of this crime on a third offense

hand broken. Any individual found guilty of
this crime on a fourth offense shall have the
knuckles of their weak or offset hand broken.
Any individual found guilty again after such
previous punishments have been enforced shall

dubious value that seem to enforce superstition
it is the purpose of this law to quell and control
the superstitions of the ruled commoners.

(and skin) removal. As such a task presents a
burden on the good torturer and has a cost in
upkeep of equipment and available pumice, the
guilty lady (or her family) shall be charged a
fine. This fine shall be worthy of an amount of
no less than 2 silver coins and no greater than 5
gold coins, with the exact nature and value of
this fine being reflective upon the lady’s social
rank, status, and degree of wealth.
Probable Cause: Though some cultures have
not adopted this degree of feminine vanity
other cultures demand such treatments of
beauty.
Selling Of Used Rope
It is considered to be illegal for anyone to sell
any worthy portion or length of used rope.
Punishment: Anyone found guilty of this offense
shall be charged a fine of 2 silver coins.
Probable Cause: This law actually has a de
cent, sensible degree of safety consciousness at
heart. The strength and condition of used rope
is often debatable, and as such it should not be
resold for further use.
Standard Ballad Law
It is required that all minstrels, bards, singers,
and similar entertainers perform only the popularly
accepted, traditional ballads and songs of
the ruling lands.
Punishment: Any performer found guilty of
violating this law shall have any musical instrument
that they are playing, mundane or
otherwise, confiscated and turned over to the
possession of the state. The guilty party shall
then receive no less than thirty lashes of a cane
or whip while forced to hold a significant
amount of soap in their mouth.
Probable Cause: Many ruling governments
have founded a degree of worry that visiting
performers could be found performing politically
challenging or socially uncouth song and
music in the community public houses. A more
popular excuse for this law, however, is that
the new material of such performers is often
considered to be rather trite and unacceptable
in quality.

such times it is unlawful for any visitor of the
community or governed to bathe at all.
Punishment:
Any individual found breaking this rule shall be subject
to 30 lashes with a whip and shall have a bucket
of dung dumped upon them.
Reason/Cause:
Despite a rather harsh method of punishment, this
law is actually a bit more sensible. As a drought
naturally reduces the abundance of water in an area,
conservation naturally becomes a serious issue.
Visitors to the governed area are generally given
less sense of bathing rights than the citizens. The
citizens are generally individuals who have no
choice but to claim the area suffering from the
drought as their homeland.

second offence the guilty party shall have one of
their front teeth pried out by the local torturer.
Should the guilty party be missing all front teeth
then the guilty party shall be fined a sum of 5 silver
coins instead. Upon the third offence of growling
the guilty party shall be fined a sum of 7 silver
coins, branded upon the forehead, and have all of
their remaining teeth pried out. Should the guilty
party fail to learn their lesson and repeat this wrong
doing with a fourth offence of growling then the
guilty party shall be tied down and repeatedly
stabbed with a silver dagger until the guilty party
dies.
Reason/Cause:
This law comes from a general superstitious fear of
werewolves.
LAUGHING AT FUNERALS:
It is unlawful for any individual to laugh for any reason
during a funeral ceremony.

lashes with a whip and fined a sum of 2 copper

pay a fine of no less than 5 gold coins. Likewise all
contents of the container as well as the magically
enhanced container shall be turned over as property
of the governing body. The offender shall not receive
any form of compensation for the magical
container or its contents.
Reason/Cause:
This law is established primarily in the interest of
anti-theft protection. Many magical bags, sacks, and
pouches tend to allow the owner to easily carry
around a significant amount of weight in content.
Such an advantage is particularly favoured amongst
burglars and thieves.
OILED WEAPON RESTRICTION:
It is against the law to use any weapon within two
hours of cleaning or oiling it.
Punishment:
For each offence the guilty party shall be fined a
sum of 5 silver coins. Members of the local guard
are exempt from this law.
Reason/Cause:
This law is established primarily in the interest of
protecting citizens and others from weapons treated
with poisons. Quite often an assassin will slip a bit
of toxin in their blade’s cleaning oil.
SADDLE TRADE LAW:
All used or new saddles must be sold to or through
the local leatherworker.

form of animal or monster.

and obscure to many it can be brought against unwanted
suppliers of magical and alchemical components.
SELLING OF VOMIT:
It is unlawful to sell any form of dung from any
form of animal or monster. Likewise, it is unlawful
to sell the vomit of humans or humanoids.

A similar law to the selling of dung, the selling of
vomit primarily targets merchants of bizarre magical
and alchemical components.
SELLING OF MOUNTS TO ADVENTURERS:
It is unlawful to sell any form of mount or beast of
burden, whether horse, mule, pegasi, or otherwise to
an individual known to follow the trade of an adventurer.
Punishment:
Should such a transaction take place and the offenders
are caught then the seller and buyer alike shall be
subject to 20 lashes with cane or whip and sentenced
to 30 days of imprisonment. Likewise the purchased
mount shall be turned over as property of the ruling
government.
Reason/Cause:
In areas where the economy has suffered due to robberies
on the trade routes there is often the belief
that adventuring parties are really little more than
flashy dressed bandits. Limiting the sale of mounts
to such individuals is viewed as a means of hindering
highway robbery.
