• 21ST CENTURY PERIOD
WHAT’S IN
1. You can see the fear in the eyes of the man that was surrounded by the military. If I am in his shoe,
I will also be so afraid for my life, upon seeing this rage and anger rose inside my heart. Why did they
have to suffer from the hands of such monsters? Even innocent civilians were affected, and many
lives were lost from their hands. I feel so sorry for them but because of those lives that were lost and
those lives that fought from the colonizers, now we have freedom.
2. The surrendered Filipinos and Americans soon were rounded up by the Japanese and forced to
march some 65 miles from Mariveles, on the southern end of the Bataan Peninsula, to San Fernando.
The men were divided into groups of approximately 100, and the march typically took each group
around five days to complete. The exact figures are unknown, but it is believed that thousands of
troops died because of the brutality of their captors, who starved and beat the marchers, and
bayoneted those too weak to walk. Survivors were taken by rail from San Fernando to prisoner-of-war
camps, where thousands more died from disease, mistreatment and starvation. This unfortunate
happening touched my heart imagine the fear if they will be alive after, the starvation and thirst, and
feeling of hopelessness.
3. Drastic changes every day, a lot of inventions had been introduced to us, and lives are much
easier because of the technology. Day by day because of the technology we are now progressing
and improving.
4. These are our heroes they lead and risked their lives for the good of all people. They were brave to
disagree and fight back the injustices of the Spanish era. And we are all forever thankful for them
because now we have attained the freedom that they longed for.
5. Where Christianity was introduced to our old folks because of the Spaniards who brought their
religion into us.
6. It’s an unpleasant view, a lot of wrecked things this must be post war. A lot of lives were affected
and lost. It’s very sad to see the result of a chaos.
7. Education is very important and it’s nice to see that even in the old times where resources were
very limited, they’re still learning and knew the importance of education.
8. Everything is abundant before where resources are easily reach and even when they were living
simple before they can still eat 3 times a day unlike today where everything should be bought, and
foods are very pricey.

Philippine literature evolved
side by side with the country’s
history. The rousings of
nationalistic pride in the 1960s
and 1970s also helped bring
about this change of attitude
among a new breed of
Filipinos concerned about the
“Filipino identity.”
• I learned that early Filipino
literature represents ethnic
groups’ heritage.
• Early literature is created by
ordinary folks to express tradition,
belief, and custom of those times.
• The ancient folks used native
syllabary and wrote on fragile
materials.

ANY REACTIONS?
LIKE – I personally like Balagtasan, I once saw it in one of the competitions and was amazed by it.
LOVE – I love all the literature and the shows that were introduced by the Spaniards.
CARE – even there are many literatures and tradition that was introduced to us, there’s still injustices
happening while we are in the hands of the Spaniards. That is why i care for the Filipinos who were
affected by it.
LAUGH – I laughed because of komedya, a play in verse from the philippines depicting the christian
saints, real events, or imaginary kingdoms; also called moro-moro, dramatizes the conflict between
medieval christian kingdoms and the moorish.
WOW – I am amazed by the different performances of the spanish literarure.
SAD – I am saddened by the fact that there were many traditions that was introduced to us that our
own tradition was washed away.
ANGRY – I am angery because of how spaniard treat us before.
