The life of Mr.john foppe, 34 year old – man born without arms and a seven other birth mistakes or
defects confirms this ! To millions on earth today , that would have being a good reason to blame God
daily for their conditions and further still, others may probably develop self-pity, self comparism , /self-
blame ! But for this 34years old American, he cooks, eats, drinks, drives and operates his computer all
with his legs.

Though Elijah had no money , the God of miracles met his needs via a “RAVEN”. Though he was
inexperienced, uneducated, and little , the God of promotion made him a power broker in his
generation.

What can’t God do?? That is why I describe him as the God that fetches water with a basket to disgrace
the bucket.

Why are you accepting that lie from the devil ? Don’t forget that plato was a hunchback! M.K.O abiola

ESUT POST UMTE PAST QUESTIONS

ENGLISH YEAR 1
Passage Instruction:

Read this passage carefully and answer the questions that follow.

As soon as the day broke, a large crowd of men from Ezeulu's quarter stormed Okonkwo's
compound, dressed in garbs of war. They set fire to his houses, demolished his red walls, killed
his animals and destroyed his barn. It was the justice of the earth goddess, and they were merely
her messengers. They had no hatred in their hearts against Okonkwo. His greatest friend,
Obierika, was among them. They were merely cleansing the land which Okonkwo had polluted
with the blood of a clansman. Obierika was a man who thought about things. When the will of
the goddess had been done, he sat down in his obi and mourned his friend's calamity. Why
should a man suffer so grievously for an offence he had committed inadvertently? But although
he thought for a long time he found no answer. He was merely led into greater complexities. He
remembered his wife's twin children, whom he had thrown away. What crime had they
committed? The Earth had decreed that they were an offence on the land and must be destroyed.
And if the clan did not exact punishment for an offence against the great goddess, her wrath was
loosed on all the land and not just on the offender. As the elders said, if one finger brought oil it
soiled the others.
We can deduce that Obierika
was satisfied with the will of the earth goddess
questioned the justice of the earth goddess
reconciled himself to the ways of the land
believed that Okonkwo rightly deserved his punishment

A. 5x − 2y − 11 = 0
B. 3x + 2y − 18 = 0
C. 3x − 4y + 18 = 0
D. 4x + 5y + 3 = 0

Correct Answer is: C

Explanation
Equation of a line:
y = mx + c

where m = gradient, c = intercept on y-axis

4x + 3y − 5 = 0

3y = − 4x + 5

y = −4/3x + 5/3

m1 = −4/3

Gradient of line through (-2, 3):

m2 = y − 3/x − (-2)

Recall, relationship between gradients of perpendicular lines:

m1 x m2 = -1
y−3
/x − (-2) x (−4/3) = −1
-4y + 12
/3x + 6 = −1

−4y + 12 = −3x − 6

3x − 4y + 18 = 0

Question 2

What is the common ratio of the A.P. (√10 + √5) , (√10 + 2√5) + ……..?

Correct Answer is: C

Explanation

To get common ratio

⇒(√10 + 2√5) − (√10 + √5)

12145 = (1 x 53) + (2 x 52) + (1 x 51) + (4 x 50)

12145 = 125 + 50 + 5 + 4

12145 = 18410

Get average by dividing by four:

184
/4 = 46

Convert back to base five:

5 | 46
5|9 r1

14
5|1 r4
5|0 r1

⇒ 1415

Explanation

In a right angled triangle, if tan θ = 3/4, what is cos θ − sin θ?

tan θ = 3/4 refers to:

|AB|2 = |BC|2 + |AC|2

|AB|2 = 42 + 32

|AB|2 = 16 + 9 = 25

|AB| = 5

Explanation

x = Σx/N = 20 + x ÷ 5

5 = 20 + x ÷ 5

25 = 20 + x

25 − 20 = x

5=x

S.D = √(Σ(x −  x̄)2 ÷ N)

= √(10/5)

=√2

Question 8

A. 10 sin 5x cos 5x
B. 5 sin 5x cos 5x
C. 2 sin 5x cos 5x
D. 15 sin 5x cos 5x

Correct Answer is: A

Explanation

y = sin² 5x − (sin 5x)²

dy
/dx = 2 sin 5x (d(sin 5x)/dx)

17
= 2 sin 5x × 5 cos 5x

= 10 sin 5x cos 5x

Question 9

If 9[(2x − 1) ÷ (27x + 1 ) ] = 1, find the value of x.

A. 8
B. 5
C. 3
D. 2

Correct Answer is: B

Explanation

92x − 1 ÷ 27x − 1 = 1

32(2x − 1) ÷ 33(x − 1) = 1

3(4x − 2− 3x − 3) = 3°

4x − 2 − 3x − 3 = 0

4x − 3x − 2 − 3 = 0

x−5=0

x=5

Question 10

In triangle PQR, q = 8cm, r = 6cm and Cost P = 1/12. Calculate the value of p.
A. √108 cm
B. 9 cm
C. √92 cm
D. 10 cm

Correct Answer is: C

Explanation

θ = cos − 1 (1/12)

Cosine Rule

p² = q² + r² − 2qr cos p

18
p² = 8² + 6² − 2 × 8 × 6 × 1/12

p² = 64 + 36 − 8

= 92

∴ p = √92cm
