Dolphins are one of the most intelligent species on the planet, which makes them a very interesting
animal to scientists. In their natural habitats, dolphins use various vocalization techniques. They whistle and
squeak to recognize members of their pod, identify and protect their young, and call out warnings of danger.
They also make clicking sounds used for echolocation to find food and obstacles in dark and murky waters.
Amazingly, the whistling sound that the bottlenose dolphin makes has been found to have a similar
pattern to human language. They always make conversational sounds when they greet each other. If you
listen to dolphins' squeaks and squeals, it will sound like they are having a conversation.
Dolphins usually use both sound and body language to communicate with each other. It is through
gesture and body language, however, that most of their communication with humans comes. Dolphins can be
trained to perform complicated tricks. This suggests they have a high level of intelligence an d
communication capacity. If they work for a long time with a trainer, they are able to recognize and
understand human commands.
A lot of dolphin communication has been studied using dolphins in captive environments. These studies
have been criticized because some marine biologists believe that dolphins living in aquariums or research
centers cannot be considered "normal." Even so, most believe that studying dolphin communication in
captivity is useful for beginning to understand the complexity of dolphin communication. After all, dolphins
are one of the most intelligent animals. Their ability to communicate is impressive and worthy of study.

Ecotourism is often regarded as a form of nature-based tourism and has become an important alternative
source of tourists. In addition to providing the traditional resort-leisure product, it has been argued that
ecotourism resort management should have a particular focus on best-practice environmental management, an
educational and interpretive component, and direct and indirect contributions to the conservation of the natural
and cultural environment.
Couran Cove Island Resort is a large integrated ecotourism-based resort located south of Brisbane on
the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. As the world’s population becomes increasingly urbanised, the demand
for tourist attractions which are environmentally friendly, serene and offer amenities of a unique nature, has
grown rapidly. Couran Cove Resort, which is one of such tourist attractions, is located on South Stradbroke
Island, occupying approximately 150 hectares of the island. South Stradbroke Island is separated from the
mainland by the Broadwater, a stretch of sea 3 kilometers wide. Being located on an offshore island, the resort
is only accessible by means of water transportation. The resort provides hourly ferry service from the marina on
the mainland to and from the island. Within the resort, transport modes include walking trails, bicycle tracks
and the beach train. The reception area is the counter of the shop which has not changed in 8 years at least. The
accommodation is an octagonal ‘Bure’. This is a large room that is clean but! The equipment is basic and
sometimes defective. Our ceiling fan only worked on high speed for example. Beds are hard but clean, there is
television, radio, an old air conditioner and a small fridge. These “Bures” are right on top of each other and
night noises do carry so be careful what you say and do. The only thing is the mosquitos but if you forget to
bring mosquito repellant they sell some on the island.
As an ecotourism-based resort, most of the planning and development of the attraction has been
concentrated on the need to co-exist with the fragile natural environment of South Stradbroke Island to achieve
sustainable development.

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct
answer to each of the questions.
The greatest recent social changes have been in the lives of women. During the past decades, there has
been a remarkable shortening of the proportion of a woman’s life spent in caring for children. A woman
marrying at the middle of the 20th century would probably have been in her early twenties, and would be likely
to have seven or eight children, several of whom lived till they were only five years old. By the time the
youngest was fifteen, the mother would have been in her early fifties and would expect to live a further twenty
years, during which customs, opportunities and health made it unusual for her to get paid work. Today women
have fewer children. Usually a woman’s youngest child will be fifteen when she is forty-five and can be
expected to live another thirty-five years, and is likely to take paid work until retirement at sixty. Even while
she has the care of children, her world is lightened by household appliances and convenience foods.
This important change in women’s life-pattern has only recently begun to have its full effect on women’s
economic position. Even a few years ago most girls left school at the first opportunity, and most of them took a
full-time job. However, when they got married, they usually left work at once and never returned to it. Today
the school-leaving age is sixteen, many girls stay at school after that age, and though women tend to marry
younger, more married women stay at work at least until shortly before the first child is born. Very many more
afterwards return to full- or part-time work. Such changes have led to a new relationship in marriage: with the
husband accepting a greater share of the duties and satisfactions of family life, and with both husband and wife
sharing equally in providing the money, and running the home, according to the abilities and interests of each of
them.

Optimists have plenty to be happy about. In other words, if you can convince yourself that things will get
better, the odds of it happening will improve - because you keep on playing the game. In this light, optimism “is
a habitual way of explaining your setbacks to yourself”, reports Martin Seligman, the psychology professor and
author of Learned Optimism. The research shows that when times get tough, optimists do better than pessimists
- they succeed better at work, respond better to stress, suffer fewer depressive episodes, and achieve more
personal goals.
Studies also show that belief can help with the financial pinch. Chad Wallens, a social forecaster at the
Henley Centre who surveyed middle-class Britons’ beliefs about income, has found that “the people who feel
wealthiest, and those who feel poorest, actually have almost the same amount of money at their disposal. Their
attitudes and behaviour patterns, however, are different from one another.”
Optimists have something else to be cheerful about - in general, they are more robust. For example, a
study of 660 volunteers by the Yale University psychologist Dr. Becca Levy found that thinking positively adds
an average of seven years to your life. Other American research claims to have identified a physical mechanism
behind this. A Harvard Medical School study of 670 men found that the optimists have significantly better lung
function. The lead author, Dr. Rosalind Wright, believes that attitude somehow strengthens the immune system.
“Preliminary studies on heart patients suggest that, by changing a person’s outlook, you can improve their
mortality risk,” she says.
Few studies have tried to ascertain the proportion of optimists in the world. But a 1995 nationwide survey
conducted by the American magazine Adweek found that about half the population counted themselves as
optimists, with women slightly more apt than men (53 per cent versus 48 per cent) to see the sunny side.

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct
answer to each of the questions.
Ever since the first prehistoric stone tools, humans have lived in a world shaped by invention. Indeed, the
brain appears to be a natural inventor. As part of the act of perception, humans assemble, arrange, and
manipulate incoming sensory information so as to build a dynamic, constantly updated model of the outside
world. The survival value of such a model lies in the fact that it functions as a template against which to match
new experiences, so as to rapidly identify anything anomalous that might be life-threatening. Such a model
would also make it possible to predict danger. The predictive act would involve the construction of hypothetical
models of the way the world might be at some future point. Such models could include elements that might, for
whatever reason, be assembled into novel sub-models (inventive ideas).
One of the earliest and most literal examples of this model-building paradigm in action was the ancient
Mesopotamian invention of writing. As early as 8000 BC tiny geometric clay models, used to represent sheep
and grain, were kept in clay envelopes, to be used as inventory tallies or else to represent goods during barter.
Over time, the tokens were pressed onto the exterior of the wet envelope, which at some point was flattened
into a tablet. By about 3100 BC the impressions had become abstract designs marked on the tablet with a cut
reed stalk. These pictograms, known today as cuneiform, were the first writing. And they changed the world.
Inventions almost always cause change. Paleolithic stone weapons made hunting possible and thereby
triggered the emergence of permanent top-down command structures. The printing press, introduced by
Johannes Gutenberg in the 15th century, once and for all curtailed the traditional authority of elders. The
typewriter, brought onto the market by Christopher Latham Sholes in the 1870s, was instrumental in freeing
women from housework and changing their social status for good.

National parks play a highly valuable role in documenting climate change. Researchers have utilized the
vast tracts of pristine wilderness to collect data on species and habitats. At first, they collected observational
data on foot; now, they use sophisticated methods such as aerial surveillance with drones like those used in
Northrop Grumman’s Wildlife Challenge to collect information on polar bears.
Đề thi thử TN THPT - Trang 12/5 - Mã đề 401
Observational longitudinal data collection shows the effects of climate change that impact vegetation and
animal species. The pika is the perfect example of an animal who may need to be relocated from the parks due
to climate change, as described in Smithsonian Magazine. The park service is taking this very seriously. “It is
openly discussing the possibility of “assisted migration”: manually relocating some animals and plants if it
turns out they can’t survive within the park’s changing landscapes.”
National park research also documents glacier retreat, finding that some ice fields have lost as much as 85
percent in the last five decades, according to U.S. Geological Survey. Glacier Park might be recognizable only
as a historical name by 2030, it projects. It’s not just glaciers retreating. The Conversation notes that national
park data shows that trees are also affected by climate change: “Climate change is killing trees due to increased
drought, changes in wildfire patterns and increased bark beetle infestations. Tracking of trees in national parks
has contributed to a database that revealed how climate change has doubled tree mortality since 1955 across the
western United States.”
We should not forget that at its inception, the National Parks Service’s long-term intention was to protect
the parks and “leave them unimpaired for the enjoyment of future generations.”

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct
answer to each the following questions
Children assessed as having special educational needs come to school with a wide range of different
needs. A particular disability may not affect learning in a way that means a child needs extra educational
support, or indeed it may not affect the capacity for learning at all. Learning together with other children in a
mainstream classroom without specialist support may be all that a child needs.
Many children with special educational needs can therefore be fully included in mainstream classes
without any additional teaching or care supports. Others may need additional teaching and/or care assistance or
assistive technology to support them in mainstream classes. Some children, with greater needs, may benefit
from being placed in a special class in mainstream schools where there are smaller numbers of pupils in the
class. Other children, with complex needs, may need supportive interventions provided in special schools.
During their school life, children may move from one setting to another as they get older or as differing
needs, strengths or abilities emerge. It is important that educational placements are kept under review by the
school, parents and other professionals involved. Children with special educational needs should be facilitated
to move from one placement to another, where this is appropriate to meet their changing needs and abilities.
Most children with special educational needs are placed in one of the following settings:
1. ordinary classes in mainstream primary or post-primary schools
2. special classes in mainstream primary or post-primary schools
3. special schools.
In all of the above settings, children with special educational needs can be provided with an appropriate
and differentiated school curriculum, where necessary, and fully qualified professional teachers. The term
“differentiated curriculum’ means that teachers adjust their teaching to take account of children's different
needs and abilities. A certain number of these children, who have more complex needs, will have access to
Đề thi thử TN THPT - Trang 15/5 - Mã đề 401
individualised education programmes. Children with additional care needs may have access to a special needs
assistant (SNA), where this is necessary and appropriate.

The popularity of organic foods can be traced to many people’s nostalgia for a simpler, more pioneer-like
lifestyle. And many people believe that organic foods are safer than foods produced on a large scale by
traditional methods. Many people also believe that these organic foods contain more and better nutrients than
conventional food.
In fact, plants absorb all their food directly from the soil in inorganic form, no matter where the nutrients
may originally have come from. Experiments in Michigan and in England that went on for twenty-five years
were unable to find any difference in plants raised organically and plants raised with chemical fertilizers.
Things that do affect nutrient content are climate, time of harvest, and genetics - but no difference results when
Đề thi thử TN THPT - Trang 16/5 - Mã đề 401
plants are grown organically.
Neither are organically grown plants free from chemicals such as pesticides. Some pesticides leave traces
in the soil for years; these traces may be absorbed by the plant that is “organically” grown. Rainfall may wash
pesticides from neighboring farms onto “organic” fields, and sprays or other applications of chemicals may
drift and cause the same problem.
Furthermore, all foods – whether grown conventionally or organically - may contain toxic substances to
some degree; the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) maintains constant checks to ensure that these
substances are kept at a harmless level. But aflatoxin, a mold that causes cancer, may grow on crops such as
peanuts, or be present in milk. Lead and arsenic are sometimes present in bone meal or seafood. And many
vegetables contain poisonous compounds such as oxalic acid and nitrite compounds. The point is, all these
toxins may be present in a given food, no matter how the food was grown and cultivated. Toxic substances in
food do not necessarily have to come from fertilizers or chemical sprays.
