Demographics
District: Rajgargh
Number of Males ( 37 )
- Through the survey, we infer that around 50% of the people had already contracted covid
in the past. Around 54% of the individuals contracted covid themselves and 50% of them
responded that their family members have contacted covid. This gives insights into how
the pandemic was virulent during the massive waves. Sero-survey also suggests similar
results with over 90% of the population developing Antibodies naturally.
- One thing to note is that, over 85% of the respondents were already vaccinated with over
70% being fully vaccinated. Reflecting the government's success in communicating the
importance of vaccines and making it accessible to the masses even in remote areas. Over
15% of the respondents were unvaccinated, the reasons attributed to this were Covid
already contracted, Vaccine side effects, Trust issues, rumours of death due to vaccine.
- Over 50% of the respondents were given a covishield shot and almost all of them got the
shot for free through government hospitals and schools.
- It was also noticed that the respondents were aware of the covid protocols and they
adhered to most of the guidelines during the pandemic. 2/3rd of the respondents said that
they met others without maintaining any physical contact. Most people reduced physical
interaction after the covid third wave. Some people who still exercised physical contact
during greetings agreed that it should be avoided and attributed ignorance as the reason
for the same.
- It was also noticed that although people were aware of the concept of social distancing,
they found it difficult to practice the same due to lack of space awareness. People have to
go through cramped spaces which does not allow them to practice social distancing.
People even said that they cannot avoid crowds as the marketplaces and workspaces are
crowded. Such places cannot be avoided in day to day life, thereby crowding is a
common phenomenon. While people cannot avoid crowds, most of them took basic
precautions like wearing masks, washing hands and avoiding contact with public places
unless necessary. Government needs to maintain proper directives in this respect with
initiatives like odd-even to avoid crowding. It also needs to focus on enhancing the
communication regarding precautions to be taken when going out. People also said that
they were avoiding traveling unnecessarily and were only going out unless it was
important. Some, who went out on a daily basis, were the only one who ran errands for
the households.
- It was observed that most of the teachers and officers were wearing masks and following
proper washing protocols. Some of the students had stopped wearing masks after the
second wave had slowed down. They said as most of the people had stopped wearing
masks, therefore, they also stopped wearing the same. Most of the students did not wash
the masks due to lack of knowledge. People washed their masks weekly which is far more
than the guidelines given by the government.
- Most of the people washed their hands frequently with soap, but only 40% of the
respondents used sanitizers. As for washing the face, people took necessary precautions
only when they were sick. People did not wash their face more than once a day if they
were healthy and were not experiencing cold and cough. The government needs to
communicate the importance of such an activity to enhance the practice of the same.
- Many of the respondents responded with no as an answer to spitting habits. Some who
had the habit responded that it was significantly reduced with the advent of covid. Only a
handful said that they still practice spitting without any major change due to the
pandemic.
- Many of the respondents said that they faced discrimination during the first wave of the
pandemic due to the stigma attached to covid and lack of knowledge. Some of the
respondent faced discrimination during the second wave with respect to provision of
resources and services.
- Almost everyone received unverified information, mostly through whatsapp. They ranged
from home remedies to vaccine rumours to erroneous covid updates. Most of the
respondents mentioned that they received the information and did not send it further.
- Major sources of information for many were newspapers and news channels, with some
depending on friends and family for the same. Only a handful depended on social media
for the information regarding covid.
- Even though 90% of respondents did not call the state helpline, the ones who did were
disappointed with long waiting, busy lines and unresponsive staff.Government needs to
build their staff and make their lines more helpful to the public.
