Traditional vs.

Online Education

In traditional education, classrooms are utilized to provide a conducive space for

learning. However, with the advent of today’s technology, the web-based instruction
was introduced, extending the four corners of a classroom to the world wide web.
Both platforms present opportunities for learners to be engaged in the learning
process, but have two distinctive patterns. Traditional education allows the
teacher and the student to interact face-to-face while online education does not
require physical interaction for learning to take place.

For the 21st century ESL learners, online education offers more advantages in their
learning journey. Online education promotes a learner-centered class as the teacher
only acts as a facilitator of the lesson. It also enables self-paced learning for
the student as the curriculum will be based on the student’s progress. Another
factor that makes online education more appealing is the convenience it provides as
it is readily available and easily accessed. Whichever way is chosen, it is
important that both the learner and the teacher experience learning that benefits
their individual preferences.
